Because I've got problems with a freezing CrazyBrowser I decided to try to find a nice new browser. I did a search on download.com and downloaded 4 new (tabbed) browsers.
Opera - http://www.download.com/Opera/3000-2356_4-...tml?tag=lst-0-1 Tried it before but for some reason I don't like the feel of it, for some reason the icons for closing a tab are right on the top so you have to move your mouse very far to close a tab. Overall feel is good, not extremely fast. Just a simple and okay browser. Enigma - http://www.download.com/Enigma-Browser/300...ml?tag=lst-0-10 At first I couldn't find the tabs but then I saw they're on the bottom, that doesn't make it very nice to overview when you're used to see them on the top. Avant - http://www.download.com/Avant-Browser/3000...tml?tag=lst-0-5 Works very nice! All menu's are very small and easy to customize, you can move them wherever you want them. The prowser looks very nice and loads very fast. A very nice browser! Slim Browser - http://www.download.com/Slim-Browser/3000-...tml?tag=lst-0-6 This is one I've never heard before but it's the best I've ever used! ...Rick |

My experiences in browser world
InternetExplorer - Kids, just say no to IE, mkay? The worst browser I've met. When I got my first computer 4+ years ago I almost immediately changed browser. Back then I didnt know about security holes in IE, but the browser itself was so poor that I dumped it and switched to NeoPlanet which my friend was using. NeoPlanet Browser - http://www.neoplanet.com/ IE based browser. Started using this as my friend used it too, was basicly "prettier IE". Anyway, dumbed NeoPlanet very soon as I discovered Opera. Opera - http://www.opera.com/ I used Opera for a long time but around version 6.50 switched to Firefox, which was just renamed to Firefox from Firebird. Opera was pretty good browser, I havent used latest versions but Opera would be my second choise now. Firefox - http://www.mozilla.org/ I've been using FireFox since version 0.8.0. The most advanced browser I've met, slighly better standard support than Opera, but regular user wont notice difference. Very customizable, lots of extensions and settings to tweak. User has the power over this browser. Summary: If user is looking for a basic browser without fancy features, bare Firefox without extensions is good for that. If user is looking for advanced browser but doesnt know very much how to tweak one, Opera would be my choise. If user is looking for advanced browser and knows how to tweak software, I would recommend Firefox. Other browsers I've seen: Konqueror - http://www.konqueror.org/ Browser that is integrated to KDE, Linux. I havent used much. I think latest version passes Acid2 test which Firefox and Opera barely fails and InternetExplorer is total failure in that test. Acid2 tests CSS skills of browser. http://www.webstandards.org/act/acid2/. Dillo - http://www.dillo.org/ This little fellow is common browser in tiny Linux system. It is only 350KB, so fits in a floppy easily. K-Meleon - http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/ Gecko (Mozilla render engine) based browser which I tested long time ago. |

Thank you, thank you, thank you Penguin!!!! I downloaded the avant browser earlier today after reading your post and I REALLY like it.
I'd already tried opera and firefox and they were extremely slow for me. Avant is sooo much faster. |
