watch out for these stupid things. i simply have been going thru the numbers and just lost 25 cents at heavenlyemail. email webmaster, what good it will do.
alwasy catch the honest people too.
poneyby
Yeah I saw that same banner. I dont like ptc cheat links they are hard to spot especially when you are on a slow computer and the banners dont load. So I watch real close for any that have a negative worth under the banners. I was able to see the -25 cents before I clicked that banner.
gregf2003
yep. click 27 banners but have 1 cheat banner and it is like i have done nothing. i am not a chaeter but second tiem i have gotten chaeted out of money.
there lose if it gets me again.

i guess 2 cheat ptc and 2 cheat linsk have caught me.
i guess i will have to click each link instead of just changing # in url.

Um, yeah. Isn't that what we're paid to do in PTC? Click the links?

pantaloonies
errrrrr.... isn't just changing the # in the url still considered cheating? ao.gif
That's exactly like clicking without reading the ad.

Cheat links and PTCs aren't so bad as long as you pay attention ae.gif

We are paid to click the links.

By putting the number in you are infact cheating since you are NOT watching what you are clicking.

I thought it didn't sound right. So that possibly why he's been caught a few times. ad.gif

I've clicked a cheat link once, because I was too enthusiastic in the PTC section of Betty's. aa.gif

It was the first time on the site after I joined. Ever since, I keep a close watch on what I click. Never happened again.

BUSTED!!!! (thats to gregf2003)

Why not just go in and click the banner and make sure it is for a positive, rather than, a negative amount.....geesh---talk about making things harder than it has to be.....

As to the member above who changed the number in the URL...I don't think that's cheating! What I think he means is that instead of hitting the X and moving down to the next banner, he moves from one ad to another through the URL directly. I think that is actually a good idea - a way to save a little time and still see each ad. No?? But when you don't look at the banner you could hit a cheat one, which is what I think was happening to him.

As for cheat links in general, I've never clicked one, but I can see it would be easy to do. Some wm's are cool about giving you a few chances, others are ruthless. I think they should focus on finding CHEATERS, not punishing mistakes (or dare I say, looking for an excuse to erase some debt?). I personally plan to use cheat links when my site opens (I think they are a necessary evil), but I will leave plenty of room for boo-boos without punishment.

I hate to tell you if they are changing the number and NOT clicking the links they are cheating. Cheaters use that method to use the autoclicking software and just dump the URLs within a text file so the software just needs to pick them up from there.

http://www.getpaidforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99250

If you think that it is alright for people to do that, then I guess you will have enormous issues on your hands. Since these methods are USED to find cheaters, then that it is.

Also as a future WM, YOU should be looking at ways to protect your own site from them. Not endorsing their actions.
paulasheri
Jaikula - thank you for explaining the autoclicking software - I certainly do not endorse them! LOL I didn't think what he said sounded like an autoclicking thing, but you are probably right ae.gif

I am certain to have a lot to learn, but I plan to approach things with faith in my members first. If I can see a clear pattern of cheating by a member (and I WILL use cheat links and any other methods to identify cheaters) then I will NOT hesistate to ban them from my site, but I guess I'm trying to be "Dolphin Safe" LOL You know, catch the tuna without snaring the dolphins....dolphins, of course, being honest members who make human mistakes.

You certainly assume a lot, though. Don't you think new webmasters who want to do right by their members should be given ENCOURAGEMENT and not told before they start that they are bound to fail? Of course I want to protect me site and it's honest members - of course I am not endorsing cheating. Were you being sarcastic or did you really think that's what I wanted to do?

As long as you dont take away my earning or delete me for posting questions in a forum I will be happy to join your new site aa.gif

I do think cheat links are a needed. Some sites though go a little extreme and hide them a little to much though.

Oh and please dont have any in the redemption area like some do ughh ai.gif
paulasheri
thank you, poneyby - i promise not to do any of those things ae.gif

as for redemptions - i plan to offer only one option - that for every dollar of your balance you use toward advertising it will be worth two toward the cost of the advertisement. (i.e. use $2 of your balance toward $5 ad, only owe $1 more)

this is the wrong place to post this, off topic, please forgive! ae.gif But if you have an opinion on this, let me know at paulasheri@yahoo.com. thanks! aa.gif

As the saying goes...

"What you cant see wont hurt you.." ad.gif

In the case with that thread where the cheater was caught on Bettybucks then it's just their own lookout.
gregf2003
anyways. seems harsh either way. i will not just change #s anynmore. i look at every ad. i will tell you that i look at every ad and usually more than 15 to 30 secs. ays usually has plenty of time to look at ad. i search every ptc and ptr email that has a search.
just seems harsh to take 25 cents away when i never see 25 ptc that would give u anywhere close to 25 cents. i will survive. just 25 cents less closer to payout i will be.

i do read all 1000+ ptr emails i get daily. i do not just click the link. just wish i did not get the 1000+ emails daily that were spam. that is whole 'nother thread. ar.gif

av.gif I saw it too

what you can't see WILL hurt you...I was at the end of a VERY long day of searching and searching..... I didn't wait for the banner to fully load at
Betty Bucks and I clicked on a cheat PTC
moxymom
I too saw the banner at Heavenly. I saw it just in time too....cause I nearly clicked it. I didn't have the page scrolled all the way....luckily it caught my eye.

This is what I don't get. With so many people having problems with banners loading, why have a cheat banner? I wanted to put in a text one at my site to combat software, but I couldn't seem to get the timer to work ah.gif So I didn't.
melrogers
i dont like cheat banners because sometimes the banners load very slowly. if people are scared of clicking a cheat banner and they have to wait a long time for the banners to load then they are going to stop doing the ptc section and that is not good for advertisers is it? i know advertisers dont want cheaters but they want people to click the banners and read their ads dont they? is it really important to advertisers if people read their banners? for people on dialup it would be faster to turn images off but i dont think ptc works with images off. why not use alt tag to put the ad for people who want images off?
Rob
WHAT is the point of a cheat PTC link?

There's no software which automatically does your PTCs!

Rob
moxymom
It's my understanding that there now is a software for PTCs. There is also another cheating method that had been used that a cheat PTC could prevent.

You think of it and somone will come up with it. I'm sure that there are ways to cheat on everything, if not, give the cheaters 5 minutes and they'll come up with a way!
karvel
I never knew they had negative PTCs. av.gif
I don't pay any attention to the value, just click them in order. aj.gif
Sigh. Wonder how much $$ I've lost? ak.gif
