How nonchalant och totally amateurish can a webmaster be?
Can't they give an acceptable answer or what is the matter?!!
I wouldn't recommend anybody to sign up on that site.
My account is gone and I can't even get an real answer!
I am just grateful that I wasn't member for a very long time before I found about that. Now I didn't lost much earned money. So it was better that it did happen now than later on. But totally unacceptable from my point of view anyway!

This is one of my favorite sites. I also wrote to find out what happened to the site and my earnings. He emailed me right back and said he didn't know how much everyone had so he was sending bigger earnings to make up for it, and he has. I'm almost back to where I was when the site went down last time.

Please do not take this the wrong way, but your own email was kind of rude sounding too. Your very first statement was an accusation. Perhaps if it were worded differently, you may have received a better response.
I realize you may have been angry at the time, but that's no excuse. And when you were treated with the same kind of attitude, you took offense and stated Shane was being "nonchalant."

you were so upset over this problem with your account that you waited half a month to complain about it?
ok, here's my 2 cents. i've been a member of shanes since the first opening. true, there have been some problems along the way but Shane has always been honest about what happened. i have won 2 ebay auctions from Shane and both were handled quickly and professionally.

LOL Pierina and I go way back. She/he is very pushy and abusive. Shane, don't let it get to ya. Pierina doesn't think before typing, and is just as quick to call everyone else a scam.
Pierina, once again, you approached the WM the wrong way, just like you did with Mike from EmailMatters. When will you learn??
freecashspace
Sep 15 2003, 11:03 PM
No doubt Pierina could have been more tactful in his/her email. Members REALLY need to try to control their tempers and not send rude emails to Program Owners.
However, that it no way excuses Shane for sending a similarly rude email back. As has been discussed in a number of threads in this forum, Program Owners should always remain professional in the way they run their business.
Also, since this email was directly related to the loss of the database, I think it more than reasonable that Shane should have done everything possible to explain the situation as nicely as possible, even when people were upset and rude - after all, it was SHANE'S fault that the accounts and earnings were lost.
Yes, Shane admitted to making the mistake, but that isn't the same thing as accepting responsiblity for it. In the original thread, Shane got upset with members who were unhappy over the incident. Seems like the same thing is happening here.
And as for accusations that Shane doesn't pay - which apparently have upset him so much that he is considering taking legal action - well Shane, you didn't pay all the people who's accounts you lost, did you?
I've heard that you've tried to make it up to those who rejoined, but for those that chose not to trust you and rejoin and risk having their earnings disappear AGAIN, well, they didn't get paid, did they?

Sorry Shane, I'm confused a little bit. So you're saying you saw no reason to pay people who hadn't reached payout at the time you lost all their data and kept their earnings?
I don't know what your minimum pay-out was, but let's use the example of the current minimum at the new and improved ShanesRockinMail, $25.00.
So Member X has been happily clicking links and doing searches and all the things they are supposed to do as members of ShanesRockinMail, and they have earned $22.78 when you lost all the data in the database.
So what you're saying is that Member X is entitled to nothing beause they hadn't earned the minimum payout at the time YOU lost the database?
So what you're saying is that if Member X wants to get paid, they need to have a screen-shot proving their previous earnings, rejoin the new and improved ShanesRockinMail and earn enough to reach the minimum payout?
What if they just want the money they earned, whether it is $2 or $20, and they want to have nothing else to do with you or your programs?
Are you really saying you don't owe them? Are you saying that it was right for you to keep their money?
Ok.

I don't have some amazing powers to turn back time and retrieve the data.I don't know what you think I should do?At least at my site I have tried to make it right.Don't confuse me with other sites that would have just packed up,gave the finger and run away.

Sorry Shane, I've edited the post to make it clear that both posts were unprofessional. Feel better?
But honestly, don't you think it was a bit silly to post something like that in a thread that was created to discuss your lack of professionalism in answering your members emails?
To answer your first question, no I've never been a member of ShanesRockinMail. As best I can remember it, the first I ever heard of it was when you posted here that you'd lost your database. Needless to say I didn't feel particularly encouraged to rush and sign up, especially after you then started saying that it was unfair for people to cry and complain because you'd lost their information.
As for your second question, what situation do I not know about? I know you lost your database because you didn't store your backups properly. I know you then got upset with members who had the nerve to "cry and complain" about what happened.
I know that in at least one instance when a member (or former member, since their account had disappeared) emailed you asking why their account had been deleted, the best response you could think of was "It wasn't. We had a major server problem."
I know that you have posted in this thread that you don't feel you owed your former members any of their earnings if they hadn't reached payout.
That's the situation that I know, and that is what I have based my opinions on.

Don't be so quick to judge me.I have admitted my mistakes due to lack of experiance and have done all I can think of to correct and prevent them from happening.
I have also credited many a members account the earnings lost.Do I have to?No.Is it the right thing to do?Yes.
I don't need to be talked to and treated as a child. To go on and on about the same old material is pointless.I can't "turn back the hands of time".
Also.I gave a very general answer to the questioning member. He said "Bye fron..."
So I said bye back.Since when it that rude and intolerable.A s a webmaster who answers a lot of emails each day why should I let someones temper tantrum be treated respectively?
I answer questions the way they were asked.

It sounds like Shane did everything possible to have his database backups. WM's aren't perfect and neither are members. We need to accept that fact. Rudeness and bad tempers aren't going to help.
Maybe there is a good solution to lost data. What can a webmaster do when he/she looses important records due to equipment malfunction and/or sloppy administrators?

Hi Shane. So good to hear from you again. Are you calling me Daddy??? Please don't.
To be honest, I still don't understand exactly what your position here is - that you made a mistake, admitted it, and now nobody has the right to criticise you for it? Admitting that you made a mistake is good - there are plenty would wouldn't - and in fact don't, when they lose their database the way you did. But admitting a mistake isn't the same thing as accepting responsibility for it.
Taking responsibility for your mistake means that you accept that people who were hurt by your mistake have a right to be angry at you about it. From what I've seen of your posts here, you haven't done that.
You keep saying the lost database issue is over, its in the past, it won't happen again, so its not worth discussing. But it's not over is it? Because this thread was started by one of your members who emailed wanting an explanation for why you deleted their account, and you're response was "I didn't. We had a major server problem."
I'm sorry Shane, if you think I'm picking on you, but seriously, does that sound like an answer from a person who accepting responsiblity for a mistake? No admission of your mistake. No apology. Just a major server problem.
So no, I'm sorry, I won't take my holier-than-thou attitude somewhere else. I don't think I'm holier than thou. In fact, I don't even claim to be a better Program Owner than you. I make mistakes all the time. But I'm not a Program Owner, and my mistakes don't cost people their earnings.
You are right about one thing though - your actions the past few weeks do indeed tell the tale. And the tale they tell is that you definitely ARE an amateur. Not just because you lost your database, but because of the way you have dealt with members who complained about it, and the way you've dealth with other people in this forum and in this thread.
No Judy03, I won't agree to disagree. I am not trying to have the last word, and I am not trying to win an argument. This is a complaint thread. Someone has complained about Shane's behaviour as a Program Owner. That's what this discussion is all about.
Cheers,
Wil

a LOT of these sites end up costing people money, thats the chance we take joining them.. Some are outright scams and a LOT have problems with many many issues from personal to database.
I commend the owners who have these probelsm and try to make up for them. You have to admit a LOT of them dont. Shane has made an effort to make up for the losses of members and of course not everyone is going to be happy or trust him again. He isnt the first one to make mistakes and wont be the last.
Now lets all move on

None taken Judy!
I got two boys of my own, so I know what it sounds like when they get going. The funny part with our boys is that the youngest is just nearly two, so we can't always understand what he is saying when he is dishing it out, but our oldest (5) sure can, and he gives it right back!

Wil

I sure hope Shane isn't nonchalant I was lucky to get in early and got a great and active downline at Shanes. I just made my first cashout request, I think this is the fastest I have ever reached cashout is any program. Thank you in advance Shane and thanks to my downline they really rock.

I must say that I think you're overreacting.I have never said that you have never paid anybody anything. I am talking from own experience.
And I must say that your lack of consideration for me in that arised situation was alarming .
You get upset because of that I establish the fact that it is impossible to make money on your site. Well if it is not , why couldn't I earn any there?! Why were my account removed? And why did you become upset when I asked why my account was deleted. Am I supposed to know about errors I haven't got any kind of information about?! Shouldn't you act understanding and friendly ?! And shouldn't you deplore what had happened and explain more thorougly and direct to some place where I and others could read more about it.
That would be more professional!
I couldn't guess that you had problems with the loss of data base.
Is it too much to ask for some kind of information about things concerning my account?
Your reaction tells me that I did hit a sore point .You know that your information was not adequate. I am still very shocked over the tepid and uninterested reply I did receive. And if you are so polite /courteous as you claim as to send an email with one word in ( bye) why don't you display it here on this forum then. And since when is it equal with good courtesy to not even write Hi, Hello or Good Day or something in a mail. That isn't good manner as far as I am concerned.
You call me a liar! Because I did dislike the treatment that I recieved from you during that critical moment.
You do totally misinterpret me.
Ok , I am subjective. I write about my opinions , experiences and feelings.
But what is wrong with that. I don't force anybody to adopt my personal point of views.
And I really think I have got right to debate here. Respect that right!
And if you had been more interested and accomodating I would not have to turn to a forum to tell all this!

I believe Shane sold ShanesRockinEmail to a very nice young man named Leroy. LeRoy has been nothing but helpful and kind to me. I have asked and received payment in a timely manner FROM LeRoy. I wish Leroy would change the name and perhaps relaunch after making some site related changes, but that's just me.
Edited to add I requested payment when Shane owned Rockin and I was paid quickly without problem by Shane, and no I am not a member of any of Shane's other programs.

Well.,... maybe not.
ShanesRockinMail has a NEW owner and has had that new owner for a while now.
Bringing up this thread now is inadvertently damaging LeRoy's and LeRoy's sites' reputations.
(Who, by the way, just paid me)
