Wow, I'm starting to sound like a real big whiner... oh well! I'm getting sick of all these WM's switching to inboxes instead of mailing stuff out. Granted, some do both, but some only do the inboxes now. Hello, it's PTRE not PTR online messages. Now granted it cuts on bandwidth usage as well, but sorry, that's just a waste of time (for me anyway) to go into all these inboxes, of which I don't even know what programs I need to, and then get "You've already visited this sponser." And you claim it won't fill up my email account... I want it to!!! Then I'll actually click on the links!!!

No program I am in are doing this, but I would like to have it as an option: a lot of people got problems with their email bouncing recently, mainly AOL, so if we had the option to select send mail to inbox only, it could save a lot of headache!

Tombmailer did it that way. There is only a few mailings depending on what they are that will actually be "sent out" rather than to the inboxes. I agree, I would reather have it sent. I don't have time to go to those inboxes and remember which sites I need to. I have more than enough to do between work, school, and reading my email. Sorry, no offense to any of the WM's that do it this way, I know sometimes it's not your fault.

yeah I know, I had suggestions that I only send to inboxes and not to email addys.
As personally I would forget to go there, I know the click through would drop a LOT
Some prefer going to sites and clicking etc. Some prefer emails so they do nto have to remember to go to the sites. The reasoning was it is annoying to have an email in your inbox you have already read.
If you think of it an an old links page with the advange of the ads and any notices you may have missed it may help

or simply skip reading the mail and hit the inbox if you prefer.

I don't mind going in there to see if I missed anything important, but I would never remember to go there everday to check it when I have a hard enough time getting through the mail in my mailbox. I love that you gave us the option of doing it both ways, I like that much better than just the inbox at the site.

i think having the inbox at the site is a nice option, especially in cases like when i can't access my personal mail to read PTC messages.
a nice enhancement to the inbox would be if there was a way for clicked links to be cleared from the inbox so that only valid mails are in there. i know that some mails bounce from time to time, especially if your mail is going to a free online account like yahoo or hotmail. if i knew that the inbox at the site was a true reflection of available mails for my account, i would be a lot more likely to use that more often
Lancer Sykera
Jul 16 2003, 12:34 PM
Yes, that's the thing, they don't get cleared.
I use hotmail, but I have a seperate account I use for all these. Which boy oh boy it's real difficult to figure my primary hotmail account from the addy I use for GPTR's.

course one good thing about the inbox itself is there are a lot of spam companies out there that take ptrp's as spam.. I have sooooooooo many members not getting their emails because their spam filter's are filtering it out.. so in those cases it's good for those that can't get their emails then they still can go to the site and read their mail..

As far as I understand it, a near future update will allow members to choose whether they want to receive their paid mails by email or in their member's area inbox.

I for one don't mind having the option but definitely would not be keen on staying with a site that just sends to the online inbox - too inconvenient - I have a hard enough job finding time to do the PTCs, which doesn't happen often enough.

I also wish there was a way to auto delete any email I've already received so there's no time wasted on checking & re-clicking links already visited. An option to delete all would be nice too - although that would cut down on the banner impressions the site uses - *wonders if it was set up that way intentionally*

Feel guilty about not emptying the box but on some sites that send lots of emails I have like 60+ messages - I am
not going to delete all them 1 at a time.
Maybe someone should send John our early xmas wish list ROFL

Could there also be an option to delete as many emails as you want rather than doing them one by one?
I don't read my emails from the site, but when I do and I see that I have 30 of them there, I don't have the time to sit there and individually delete them. It's not just one site.

I take it GRL_vencap is angry with Hotmail??? I hate the timeouts as well. They don't make any sense, because granted they make their own gay link so their silly frame comes up at the top, but the link it makes has the original URL in it. But whatever.

CBTX is the only program I know doing this and I am so disappointed. I think he has an awesome program and I like the e-mails (music plays while you read them).
But, I also see the benefit of an inbox for those with small e-mail accounts.
PLEASE give us an option.
I just don't have time to go to all my programs to check the inboxes.
Tks for listening y'all.

Does the inbox option allow you to pop mail from it?
That would be cool. You can set up some programs like Outlook with multiple accounts to get your all your mail into your inbox.
Actually, having a popable mail box from the individual sites isn't a bad option at all. They wouldn't have to send the mail... you just get it from their server when you want to check it.

Okay, now my 2 cents! LOL
Between us, my daughters and I are involved in nearly 100 ptr/ptc sites. Thanks to this new *innovation*, at least half of the companies have inboxes.
I LOVE being able to utilize this option, because then I could spread my work more smoothly over the week!
Conversely, I LOATHE not being able to delete more than one letter at a time. I would rather see an option of checking the letters I want deleted, or even dumping the entire contents. Also, it would be nice if letters which have already been read via my regular inbox were automatically deleted, so that I wouldn't have to check each one to discover if I've received it!
Of course, by the same token, I like the system used at ETK where the paid links are displayed on a page and the ones I've already visited are displayed in a color which lets me KNOW I've already been there!
I don't know which way my personal vote goes, it depends on my mood!

But naetheless, being a member of AOL, I'm tired of them preventing me from receiving emails that I have requested, merely as a blanket policy against SPAM. I think that all of these email providers should be taking a better look at their policies - People should be able to post the sites they WISH to receive mail from, rather than merely disqualifying sites. Then they could spend more time on REAL spam.

Well then, get a real ISP. Why would you want to pay for that AOhELL garbage anyway? It's only really suitable for people completely new to the internet (no offense if you are). They have all that stuff there, but if you've been on the net for even a few months you ought to know how to find that stuff. Rawr I hate AOL.
Back when 3.0 was out we had it. ######ed up our computer. ######. And one of my dad's coworkers, when he got rid of it, it screwed up system stuff.

I downloaded AOL on my first computer to take advantage of the free trial.
My computer got so screwed up I had to take it into the shop to be repaired!
The computer guy at the shop told me AOL software is like a virus- it rewrites your files, and then your computer won't work properly when you try to use a different ISP.
I'll never try that again!

Yeah, it messes with system files and the such. My dad's coworker couldn't even go into Paint. On ours, when you started the computer, while it was in DOS booting up, errors upon errors came on the screen, and you had to hit keys forever and ever to get through them. And it was all the same error, just repeating.

Hi,
For the ones talking to John ... well, succeeding in reaching him

I would like thisnoptions
1. Mails sent to mailboxl
2. Mails in inbox
3. Mails sent and in inbox
I like to have both and would chose option 3 ... just like it is now

But I do understand I am probabily a minority and the 2 other options would be great for many people

I would personally love to be able to "opt out" of using the on-site Inbox! I much prefer to go to my regular email account and read from there, becase then I can at least keep track of which ones I've read or not! At first I tried to remember to go clean out my on-site Inbox, but it's very time consuming to click on each one just to read "you have already clicked on this link", when that's really your only way of finding out if you've read it or not, it's not like I can memorize the titles of all of the email I read, especially the ones that send out generic titles like "1 Cent Email from xxxxxx", so lately I've found that I just let them fill up. I know most places have it so that email over 15 days are deleted, but if the progrram send out many emails in those 15 days, that's got to eat up at least some server space, especially if many people do it!

When I still worked at McDonalds, there was a huge pile of them in the crew room for us, so I took about 30 home with me. And of course I pay a visit to Eckerd every once in a while...
Another problem is that if they only send to inbox and not email, I could be inactive and gone.

It's my understanding that it can't go into your inbox unless it's actually been sent out via e-mail but i could be wrong.
I personally like it because i have a lot of members who's ip's block us, etc, they claim they don't get their mails, now they have no excuse if they come up 30 days inactive and i delete them.
Now for those who do click from the e-mails, there's no reason to look at inbox, they automatically delete from index in 15 days.
So i don't see a problem.
But for those with time, it's good to go thru the inbox, as you may find some you didn't cllick etc.
