Today i just made a search in Google about the best way to build traffic and many talk about article marketing, i've used before article marketing and wanna share with you some good points:
1) if you write articles then they get published and you get backlinks, if other duplicate your article then give you another backlink and this is the viral nature of article marketing but getting it viral is not so easy...
2) someone claims to get a backlink from a PR 7 article directory: wrong, go to see which page your article is hosted and then see its PR, then that it's the real PR backlink you get. And same talk for sites that duplicate your article, see always the PR from the page your article is hosted on, not the main page.
3) i wrote a lot of articles in english and in italian and see: the articles written in italian brought me good traffic, not the ones written in english. Why ? Because the italian pages indexed in Google are few compared to the english ones. Search Google by 'house' and then search it for its italian, french, spanish term than the number occurrence is very less. So this is the reason why an article written in english produces less clicks than the one written in another language. This is also true for longtail keywords, it's easier to rank higher for a combinations of words that are not written in english.
I'm not saying that article marketing is useless, is a good way to build a link popularity and so have a better ranking in search engines but from my viewpoint is not the best way to build traffic. Writing a lot of articles ( bum marketing ) can drive you traffic but from my viewpoint there are ways that require less work and produce better results.
