A website is pretty vague. You can earn money :
- selling goods
- giving access to informations and adding ads on your page
- uploading things and linking your download link with linkbucks or sharebee
- doing the promotion of ptc websites and showing payment proofs

There are many ways you can earn money. Depends on how much time you spend working on the website.
I remember making 400$ selling tutorials with a old website of mine.

There are numerous ways, but a lot depoends on your volume of traffic and where it is from.
If you only have a small volume of traffick you may find advertising is not right for you. Also advertisers tend to like traffick from United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.
Selling products direct is sometimes good or selling mememberships, though I have always found that difficult.

You can sell your own products or promote other products, programs, etc. as an affiliate of affiliate programs.

Then you need to drive quality traffic to your site.

One of the ways is link building to increase your site's rankings in Google and other search engines. Here are 2 of the ways to build links:

1) submitting articles to places like article directories, blogs, etc.

2) submitting links to web directories.
