as Bill Gates stepped out of microsoft, so does Windows XP. it was officially retired and soon be an extinct.

so, are you now thinking of getting a bite for vista? or would this be another marketing strategy of attracting the public in switching to vista? what do you think?
Tolemac
I for one will not be switching to Vista until I am forced to, and probably not even then. Vista is actually worse than Windows ME, and that's saying something. As a computer repair and upgrade tech, I've had nothing but problems with every client and customer that insisted on installing Vista, even on completely new systems that were, in Microsofts own words, fully compatible. Now that is a laugh. Of the 11 clients who had me install Vista on their system, ALL of them had me re-install XP after less than a month.

Right now, they've just come out with Service Pack 3 for XP and as soon as the bugs are sorted from that, I'll be installing it. XP will be supported until 2013 or so, so I've got plenty of time before I have to make that decision.
Who know, by then I will probably find a Linux version I like that does what I need it to do. ai.gif

Staying with XP for as long as I can too ab.gif

Agreed. Vista won't fit my slow, old computer. XP SP3 is the best.

I haven't really checked out all the varieties yet, but I have friends on another tech forum that use Linux exclusively and I'm sure they'll sort me out when the time comes. ac.gif

The problem with some people i think, is that there scared of change or are not told that vista will suck on an old PC.

I built my own PC for the first time ever and have recently built one for my father,

My PC is Dual core AMD X2 6000 3GHZ, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS
I run windows vista basic and have had no trouble what so ever, i think its awesome. One draw back would be some old(er) PC games have trouble working or crash. Thats it...

I mean, what exactly do people not like about "vista"?

My fathers pc, very similar to my set-up but used INTEL processor instead of AMD has got windows vista basic and he has no trouble at all and he plays games on it more than me. although rome total war has crashed a couple of times, lol.

Thats my view anyway. aa.gif

Isn't Windows XP still being used in some of the ASUS Eee PC models. I can't imagine Vista in those munchkins.

Yes Paul, glad you pointed that out, I too have no problems with Vista, just keep the updates rolling, keep it genuine, and keep your drivers up to date and everything should be totally fine.

Windows Vista only eat bigger computer resource/power than xp. I still using windows xp
USAOK
My brand new Dell came loaded with XP. Vista is slow, and resource hungry.
Halo12117
All the newer computers have the high specs and can handle vista
My old comp will die has only 200 MB ram and slow prcessor
kitt862
No significant change between Vista and XP and Vista need more RAM, So, Why I must move to Vista? Vista just make my computer like grandpa ab.gif and not everyone have a new latest computer

I'm crossing my fingers that my XP computer keeps on pluggin along. I never want to have to deal with Vista again! I've helped several people set up newly purchased PCs with Vista. I hated it from the moment I started working with it. It uses an incredible amount of resources and I saw no added benefits. In fact it has less features than XP! All the people I helped had issues with it at some point and one even had me overwrite it with their old XP software. aa.gif Yes Microsoft pretty much has a monopoly on the OS market but that doesn't mean I have to like it!

Im staying with XP for aslong as possible.

Ive seen Vista and honestly it does look great, but the lists of problems just go on and on

Vista uses more RAM and CPU if you haven't noticed.
Check on a Xp compared to Vista.
XP uses less CPU and RAM. And Xp is best for gaming. Unless Windows 7 get released in 2010 of course we will have to wait and see.
Xp has less needs on system processes thats why less CPU and RAM is needed.
And one more thing. Vista isn't compatible with few games. And vista still has a few bugs even if you have basic, premium, or ultimate. and BILL GATES USES HIS OWN OS DESIGNED ONLY FOR HIMSELF.

Im staying with XP til its over... Vista has too many bugs...people beg me to install XP on their machines because they hate Vista. Some dont have problems with Vista becuase they built there own machines and did not go to best buy and buy one. THe ones you buy at Best buy and other electronics stores come with thousands of programs loaded in it which make the PC slower and more difficult to use. So it's XP for me for at least 3 more years. Then ill probably go MAC or Linux...havent decided...or I can have the best of both worlds ab.gif Also...VIsta will nott be here long...Windows 7 is already in Beta Stage!!! which means ill give Vista at least 5 more years and there are not...probably less
Kel-D
I'm still using XP and with all the bad things I have heard about Vista I have no intentions of changing unless I absolutely have to.
samthom19
Vista isn't too bad once you turn off some of the security settings, make it less flashy and, add some RAM. Although I would take XP over Vista any day.

Yes with a Mac you can have the best, not only of both worlds, but of all worlds. As a Mac user and lover I can tell you this with Leopard you have boot camp where you can section off your HD and put Any and All operating systems on it. Or you can use virtual machines (some will run those OS like a Mac which is nice).

I have XP on my Mac, well actually on external HD as I wouldn't dream of putting Microsoft on my baby. I only broke down and did that because of expesive software that I had like photoshop, that I had before getting my first Mac and being hooked. Of course now I have to have all that anti malware stuff and even defrag (just the XP--Macs do not fragment files) etc because of the hundreds of thousands of threats to Windows (ZERO for Mac OS X).

For me personally if it isn't a Mac I'm not interested. I would rather have a used Mac v. a brand new P.C. anyday!

Oh and another thing about Mac's you can boot from other HD (even an iPod) if needed. For instance my internal HD finally gave out and yet here I am still on my computer because I can run completely from my external HD, can't do that with a PC and you would be dead in the water until you get a new one or a new HD.

Yes, if you can't tell already I LOVE Macs! Once you go Mac you don't go back! bz.gif

OK I'll get off my Mac v. PC soap box now.

disclaimer I do not make any money off of the sales of Mac, no matter how much I recommend them!

Tons of people will be using XP for another 10 years. Trust me the windows operating system gains no real benefits from being upgraded after XP. Tell me one feature in Vista or Windows 7 that is so great that you desperately need it.

Windows 7 is a significant upgrade from XP. It is much faster, lighter and out scores XP and vista in pretty much all performance tests. XP will not last 10 years. You will see a shift very shortly. Especially since google has announced that they are developing an OS.
