For those who is missing "go" button in location bar (by default it is only displayed when you are editing the current web address)

Open your userChrome.css file located in your profile folder.
Add this line to the end of the file: #go-button { visibility: visible !important; }
Restart Firefox

unless you customized your chrome before, there is no userChrome.css under your profile folder. In the ‘chrome’ subfolder of your profile folder you should find a file called userChrome-example.css, copy this one to userChrome.css

To remove the star button from location bar
Add this line to the end of userChrome.css:
#star-button { display: none !important; }

To remove the RSS icon from the location bar,
Add this line to your userChrome.css:
#feed-button[feeds] { display: none !important; }

Make the autocomplete menu show only typed addresses and not visited or bookmarked:

Enter about:config in the location bar to access the advanced preferences. Accept the “This may void your warranty message”.
Look for browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped and double click it to set it to TRUE

This is something that is very important also.

If you go to any user info pages please scroll down and look at the cancel my account box, (if you save passwords in your browser) it will be in that box. If you make any changes on that pages please please please remember to remove it from that box before you hit save. If you make a mistake and accidentally cancel your account immediately write the admin of the site and give them your email address and they can fix it for you. At least that is true for and CC Script type of sites.

I don't have this trouble. No password in the cancel my account box.
Aren't the "save changes" and "delete your account" boxes separated?
Lisa0069
They are separate but if you tell firefox to yes remember my log in password then it filled in the cancel box automatically when I first went into the page and did not even try to do anything. I do have a Mac not sure if that has anything to do with it, but just wanted others to be aware of this just in case.

great tips gaab bv.gif

another for getting rid of the bookmarks Toolbar Folder on the menu list;

#bookmarksToolbarFolderMenu { display: none !important;}

supposedly you need to have at least one folder on your bookmarks list so make up your own before hiding the btf one. I wasn't curious enough to experiment so just imported my own folders and then hid the bookmarks one cc.gif

Good information. These have been annoying me since I upgraded.

Experienced a mysterious (to me) change this morning.... initially with fireFox 2. and while trying, in a quickest manner possible, to resolve the change... did a install of FireFox 3 but that did not correct that unwanted change as seen with Firefox 2...

I am running OS Vista in one of my 2 online computers. see *Note

FireFox 2 usually displayed only one Tab seen on the bottom Bar of my Desktop that used to display a drop-down/drop-up Box showing all open Browser Windows when mouse left button click.

*Note: There was no change found with my laptop which runs on OS XP on FireFox 2.

This previous ability to display all multiple open Browser Windows by simply clicking mouse left button on the FireFox Tab (still found at the Bottom Bar... but no longer works as before with mouse left button click) mysteriously vanished. Instead... a (new to me) list of Tabs now appear at the Top of Window (much as a additional Tool Bar does) .

To clarify: The Mouse Left Click no longer functions as opening a New Window as it did previously. Instead now I have to click the Mouse Scroll (acting as a Mouse Center) button as the only method that will open a New Window. ba.gif

How this change (disabling the left mouse click function which used to activate a display of all open windows) happened by simply shutting down the computer then re-starting up the next morning is to me unknown.

Nothing new had been been knowingly installed other than seeing 2 fireFox 2 add on-updates/install/continue messages without any noticeable change while continuing to use hundreds of times prior to shut down... AVG database update is the only other install.

This computer has been clean of any malware since purchase. Have Comodo Firewall and Boiclean. Spybot and Ad-aware +more that find no problems since CCleaner seems to eliminate all.... AVG 8 runs every 24 hours. CCleaner is used more often than every hour if involved with PTR. Thus fairly confident that No Trojans etc exist...

Next: Invoking a previous Windows Restore Point did not return (neither the mouse Function to left button nor did restore-restore the Tab configuration allowing a drop-up/drop-down box display) to the original state.

Hmm... All I did was shut the computer (vista) off overnight and encountered this change this morning and the cause of this change still eludes me has locked me thinkin cap in a confused ao.gif state.

Anyone got a explanation of what could have caused this and a workable suggestion how to return to original state?

Question: Does the original cause of problem and solution lie within Vista or within FireFox

Perhaps a simple uninstall/reinstall of Firefox might solve this problem? but that would negate learning of easier alternatives... bo.gif

Any TIPS? bt.gif

I'd rather have a easy way out answer here from one who has experienced the same problem and replies knowledgeably than possibly having to waste a few hours bj.gif trying to figure this nuisance out on my own. aj.gif

Thanks in advance.

i havent upgraded yet but will my bookmarks stay the same once i upgrade or do i have to do something. and do i have to reinstall the add-ons?

thanks for any reply
RBNLOVESPOH
The majority of the add-ons do not work for Firefox3 yet. I went to their forum to ask and even after being told how to do it they still do not work. I lost all my add-ons and all my bookmarks when I upgraded from 2 to 3. Many others posted on their forum about the same issue. az.gif

I'm not sure you can upgrade from FF2 to FF3 and I wouldn't recommend it even if possible, almost certainly you will have problems.

best to do a clean install. after downloading FF3 go to where your profile is for FF2, on xp this would be C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\. find the mozilla folder and copy it over to your documents folder, or anywhere else you can easily find it. 99% of these files you will not need but best to keep them all until you get FF3 set up. go to Add/Remove programs in your control panel and uninstall FF2. I always reboot at this point although I'm not sure it's necessary. after installing FF3 and getting it set up the way you want you can add your bookmarks, and if you have FF save your passwords, the files for those as well

go to the folder you moved your old profile to and copy over

bookmarks.html
key3.db
signons.txt

I can't remember if you need bookmarks.bak but if your bookmarks don't show up in FF3 after copying over bookmarks.html then copy over bookmarks.bak as well. for extensions, themes & add-ons you will have to make sure they are compatible with FF3. the only add-on I use is NoScript and that has been updated for FF3. I did lose my old theme but found a comparable one that was FF3 ready.

I also had to downgrade after upgrading to FF3, I lost quite a few of my add-ons / downloads and those that remained would not work properly.

for those of you who have a lot of add-ons I'm pretty sure I read in one of my newsletters there will be updates to FF2 for at least most of this year and it might have been longer. didn't really pay attention since I was already using FF3 lol. I don't remember if there was a reason written why but it could be because FF3 has so many changes most of the add-ons for FF2 and lower versions need to be recoded aj.gif

all I know is FF3 seems to run a lot smoother than any other Fox I've used and now that I've gotten over my initial dislike because it felt so different I'm loving it ad.gif

After a few headaches, I am finally using FF3!

I did a clean install, but before installing it I backed up my entire profile.

I lost a couple of extensions, but most of the ones I was using work just fine and I was able to uninstall some of the old extensions because I don't need them anymore.

Here's a list of the ones I have (I've bolded the ones I can't live without):

I don't see a big difference regarding memory use, but that's probably due to the many extensions I use. Memory use improved a bit after I uninstalled all the disabled extensions I had.
I still backup my profile every couple of days just in case, but I haven't had any problems since last Wednesday. aa.gif

Great tips, just when I needed when my mozilla was running so slow..

Thanks and I will try out.

My FF3 seems to crash quite often. Normally I have 5 autosurfs running and I never had any problem with FF2.
