Want to help bring about peace on earth?
Play more anti-war songs.
I think we have some good ones left from another war, in Vietnam..

edited: here's one:
QUOTE
Donovan - Universal Soldier
He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four,
He fights with missiles and with spears.
He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen,
Been a soldier for a thousand years.

He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain,
A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew.
And he knows he shouldn't kill,
And he knows he always will,
Kill you for me my friend and me for you.

And he's fighting for Canada,
He's fighting for France,
He's fighting for the USA,
And he's fighting for the Russians,
And he's fighting for Japan,
And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.

And he's fighting for Democracy,
He's fighting for the Reds,
He says it's for the peace of all.
He's the one who must decide,
Who's to live and who's to die,
And he never sees the writing on the wall.

But without him,
How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau?
Without him Caesar would have stood alone,
He's the one who gives his body
As a weapon of the war,
And without him all this killing can't go on.

He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,
His orders come from far away no more,
They come from here and there and you and me,
And brothers can't you see,
This is not the way we put the end to war.

Or pro-peace songs.
You may know this one:
QUOTE
IMAGINE
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

There are SOOO many good anti-war songs. I don't agree with their messages, but I love good music. Try 'War Pigs' by Black Sabbath, my personal favorite. Some of the greatest songs created have come from the vietnam era. I believe Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Fortunate Son' is an anti-war song as well. Those two are both amazing songs. 'American Woman' by The Guess Who was supposed to be an anti-war song, but the band claims it isn't. There's many more, too, I just can't think of them all right now.

"Universal Soldier" is about one of the best anti war songs out there I think, Bob Dylan has written loads too "Masters Of War" springs to mind, if only the power of music could really put an end to war. ah.gif

Thanks, I didn't even know that one, but it has strong lyrics too.
(They play very little Bob Dylan songs on the radio here.)
QUOTE
Bob Dylan - Masters of War
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Another great song:
QUOTE
Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon
We met as soul mates
On Parris island
We left as inmates
From an asylum
And we were sharp
As sharp as knives
And we were so gung ho
To lay down our lives
We came in spastic
Like tameless horses
We left in plastic
As numbered corpses
And we learned fast
To travel light
Our arms were heavy
But our bellies were tight
We had no home front
We had no soft soap
They sent us playboy
They gave us Bob Hope
We dug in deep
And shot on sight
And prayed to jesus christ
With all our might
We had no cameras
To shoot the landscape
We passed the hash pipe
And played our Doors tapes
And it was dark
So dark at night
And we held on to each other
Like brother to brother
We promised our mothers we'd write
And we would all go down together
We said we'd all go down together
Yes we would all go down together
Remember Charlie
Remember Baker
They left their childhood
On every acre
And who was wrong?
And who was right?
It didn't matter in the thick of the fight
We held the day
In the palm
Of our hand
They ruled the night
And the night
Seemed to last as long as six weeks
On Parris island
We held the coastline
They held the highlands
And they were sharp
As sharp as knives
They heard the hum of our motors
They counted the rotors
And waited for us to arrive
And we would all go down together
We said we'd all go down together
Yes we would all go down together

Another anti-war song by Bily Joel:
QUOTE
Leningrad
Victor was born in the spring of '44
and never saw his father anymore
a child of sacrafice a child of war
another son who never had a father after Leningrad

Went of to school and learn to serve the state
followed the rules and drank his vodka straight
the only way to live was drown the hate
and Russian life was very sad
and such was life in Leningrad

I was born in forty-nine
a cold war kid in McCarthy time
stop'em at the thirtyeight parallel
blast those yellow reds to hell
cold war kids were hard to kill
under there desk in an air raid drill
haven't they heard we won the war
what do they keep on fighting for

Victor was sent to some red army town
served out his time became a circus clown
the greatest happiness he'd ever found
was making Russian children glad
and children lived in Leningrad
but children lived in Levittown
and hid in the shelters underground
'till the soviets turned their ships around
and tore the Cuban missiles down

and in that bright October sun
we knew our childhood days were done
and I watched my friends go off to war
what do they keep on fighting for
and so my child and I came to this place
to meet him eye to eye and face to face

he made my daughter laugh then we embraced
we never knew what friends we had
until we came to Leningrad

I am all in favor of peace, however to get that, it involves war. You have to take care of the "evil" and the oppressors before peace can be attained. War has solved many problems throughout history. Peace songs have not.

No, we only have to get rid of those that start wars.
They should not be in power. They should be in prison.

personally ive never really understood war songs. the government are hardly gonna pull out of war because someone writes songs about it.
but thats just my opinion, not meaning to start a debate here ae.gif

songs can influence the masses,
and in theory, the masses rule (indirectly) in a democracy

And at Christmas we have Jona Lewie with "Stop the Cavalry" aa.gif

And Bing Crosby with "Peace on Earth & Little drummer boy",
