Wow! That's a really tough one. I love horror movies, so it's hard to pick.
I guess if I really, really had to pick one, it would be Rob Zombie's Halloween remake. Not to take anything away from the original, I loved the remake and how RZ gave Michael Meyers more background. Also, I think RZ's Michael is more frightening. In the original movies, Michael pretty much just kills whoever is in range. In the latest incarnation, though, Michael actually has a criteria for whom he kills. If you show him disrespect or try to stop him from achieving his goals, you're history.

Hey, that's a coincidence, was just going to name one of Rob Zombie's other movies as my favorite!
House of 1000 Corpses is my favorite since it has everything a good horrormovie needs, evil clowns, doctor Satan, a psycho family, great actors. The story is a bit weird but it's just a fantastic ride...
but there are much more good movies, too much

Ho1KC is a fabulous movie! It's a wonderful homage to tacky 70's horror flicks. As for it having "everything a good horror movie needs", you forgot two very important elements: Captain Spaulding and Baby! Spaulding is the perfect reason to be afraid of clowns, and Baby... Well... How do you describe someone that's Concentrated Sex
tm one minute, and totally psychotic the next?

I agree, but The Exorcist: New Beginning (200? remake) absolutely shell-shocked me.... hmm it will always remain a controversial trilogy in the context of a its derogative stance with religion!

I don't like horror movies either.
I did watch (and read) "Silence of the Lambs", and I thought "The Skeleton Key" was pretty creepy.
Quite honestly, the worst part of watching it was that I watched it with my oldest daughter: If the movie doesn't scare the hell out of you, she will. She screams, makes her own sound effects, jumps and spills the popcorn all over the place, etc.
I cannot believe that this is the child I had to walk through the house with 14 times in 1 night to make sure all of the doors and windows were locked so that Freddy Kruger couldn't come and get her.

for horror, horror movies I like the Blair Witch Project and the Saw series
but for comedy horror it has to be Shaun of the Dead. Simon Pegg is a legend!

My favorite is a old movie called "Lady In A Cage" starring Olivia de Havilland and James Caan.....IMDB says don't see it alone!!
From IMDB:
Released back in the mid-'60's, this sadly overlooked thriller was way ahead of its time and foreshadows the senseless violence that exists in our society today. Olivia de Havilland gives a stunning performance as a partially crippled woman who becomes trapped in her private elevator during a power failure. Meanwhile, three vicious thugs(led by James Caan in his film debut) ransack her house and contemplate murdering a hustler(Ann Sothern) and a wino(Jeff Corey) who are unwittingly along for the ride. It's a gripping, chillingly realistic tale, with first-rate performances by the superb cast. Not only did James Caan make his debut with this film, but LADY IN A CAGE also marked the return of the great Ann Sothern who had been absent from the big screen for ten years to star in the popular TV shows "Private Secretary" and "The Ann Sothern Show".

Paranormal Activity is a super low budget horror/suspense movie (way more suspense than horror). Seriously, they made it for $11,000! It is about a couple who live together and are trying to capture on film some of the spooky things that are going on in their house.
It's a pretty slow moving film, but there are enough spooks and creepy happenings to keep you involved and the movie feels like you are watching home movies. I'd give it a solid B ... maybe a B+ since they made the movie so cheap! Goes to show you don't need a huge budget to make a big impact!avatr
