Hi everybody. I was looking for something on the internet because my FireFox had been running really slow. After doing this, my Firefox is so fast I am having a hard time keeping up with things....lol. Anyways, I just thought I would pass this along & it might help someone else. Follow these instructions all the way, just takes minutes & you're on your way!

1) Open Firefox

2) Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.

Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

3) Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" (simply double click the entry)

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" (simply double click the entry)

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

Now right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.

Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay"

and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

4) Close Firefox

5) Re-open and test for speed

I am no genius on computers but this is very simple, fast & easy. Hope this helps.

I had seen this before I tried it but they didn't have that last part to it so I'd tried it again.

It was mega slow before, now the pages actually load ad.gif.

I tried the 2.0.0.13 version & it was worse then the one I am using now. I use FireFox 2.0.0.11. It works great for me. The newest version of FF has some kinks still in it but that's up to all of you of what you do.

does this method compromise security in any way? just curious.

Thanks for the great tip. I have already done this and I have experienced a faster FireFox. But, there is also another application and its name is 'FireTune' which is available for free. You may download that and it automatically tunes your FireFox browser.

at this site it says

1. In the browser address bar, type: about:config
2. Anywhere in the browser window, right-click and create: NEW > String
3. Name the string: nglayout.initialpaint.delay (no spaces) and set its value to 0 (or something sensible, in milliseconds).

http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=2448

so is it Integer or String?
or it doesnt matter?

Just a notice to all that use this option to make FF faster.

What you are doing with this config, is putting a heavy load on the server your connecting. thats why your firefox works faster.
So please have this in mind when using PTR and PTC sites you take more of the server load to open your connection faster, this can cause time out problems for other users.

Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like this technique is redirecting all your browser traffic through a 3rd party proxy server which in my opinion may present you with several new concerns that would outweigh any speed benefit for me:

  1. You don't know if this new server is logging traffic ("key logger" style though server based instead of input device based) in an attempt to steal passwords and other sensitive information (the server operator may have il intent); and
  2. this technique may have the unfortunate effect of getting you banned from many GPT sites that are proxy aware.

Again, I haven't look in detail into this procedure but it appears you are connecting through a 3rd party proxy server of unknown ownership and/or origin.

If I am sadly mistaken by misunderstanding this procedure please correct me (but I am a 20+ year experienced IT professional and extreme power user.)

You couldn't be more wrong. It isn't re-directing you through anything. It is a Mozilla tweak that has been around for quite a while. It allows your browser to send multiple requests to a server.

It might be time to brush up on "your 20+ year experience" before spouting misinformation, and trying to scare people.
