I know this is one of those types questions that is always tossed around but I'm curious
how the rest of the online earners would answer this. Personally, I see as a very valuable
tool and a resource to achieve greater things, and as a way to measure how well my work
efforts are going, but not an end in itself.

Can money buy happiness? I don't think so.

Dec 10 2007, 02:21 AM
It sure can, in a sense. If having money means not stressing out if this bill or that bill is gonna be paid or if you're going to be able to afford this or that that you need, it relieves tension and anxiety, which, in return, increases the happiness factor.
I've always been happier when i had more money. Because i didn't have to worry so much

Money can't buy you ultimate happiness BUT! the more more money one has, the happier they are -why??
because MONEY = OPTIONS/CHOICE which make for a happier life.
If you think about it, the majority of the problems people have are related to not having enough money i.e
not being able to buy a house (or buy a house in the area you want), not being able to go on holiday every year, not being able to quit your job to pursue your true passions because you need to pay your bills - the list is endless!
having enough money would eliminate all your financial problems, meaning that you would no longer be a "slave to the wage" and be able to live your life the way you want to - who one earth wouldn't want that?
Not having to worry about money enables you to focus on the things that really matter in life (family, friends etc)
Thats my take on the matter;-)

It depends on what makes you happy. For me, I'm at my happiest moment when I travel and to be able to travel I need money. So if I have a lot of money, I can travel a lot so I should be happy. At this moment, I don't really feel the need for love yet, I'm loving my life the way things are right now so I would say yes to your question. But once I'm more concerned about my love life then my answer might change.

No, Money can't buy happiness. It can pay for peace of mind though, in a financial sense.
It can pay bills, buy you better healthcare and the medications you need, and take your mind off a lot of day-to-day worries.
I've lived with money and without it. It didn't change ME. I'm still the same person i've always been.
When I had money, I had a lot more so-called 'friends' - 99% of them disappeared when the money wasn't there anymore.
True happiness is something that comes from within. Nothing can buy that.

Money can buy house but not home..

I think if I have lots of money, I will have less things to worry about.

In my opinion, money cannot buy happiness but might make the person happy depending on whether he is the master or the money is the master.

I don't understand why people think that when we have money, we have less things to worry about. I believe rich people have other things to worry about if not about bills and such. For example if I start a business and have lots of people working for me, ideally I can just sit around and watch it grow, if it grows at all, but there will be problems and there will be issues about trust and loyalty etc. I guess if you buy ownership of a company and has nothing to do with the day-to-day operation then you can. But there bound to be problems whether you're rich or poor.
Maybe I'd rather be rich rather than poor when I'm faced with a problem. Because then maybe I have more resources to solve my problem. Can money buy happiness? Who knows what make people happy and if we know when we're truly happy and not just pseudo-happiness when we have just bought that cute expensive bag

Well, what I think is that the more money you have the less pleasure you get from them. When you know you can buy mostly anything and don't have to do ###### to make more, life loses meaning. Why work if you have enough to last through your entire life. Just look at all the movie and music stars, they have so much that they party their as ###### off and in the end they drug themselves to death.
Athlete stars in various sports do tend to start heavy drinking after their carriers are over since they get bored of not having anything to do, and why should they do every day work, when they have enough money to last a long time.
The enjoyment when you get paychecks when you are poor (hehe i'm a student so that's life for me atm =() is hard to describe, but it feels good atleast. And I know that in the future if I get rich the paychecks wont have the same feeling. But still I wouldn't mind =P being average rich, not to rich. The richer you are the more ppl will want from you hehe.

Listen to us

. It's pretty obvious that we're not at the, shall I say, best financial situation at the moment.
One thing that the rich or recently-rich people usually mistaken is that the money they have will last forever. That's why we hear a lottery winner squander it all on things that will later cost them money instead of making them more money.
Do we have some sort of scientific research that all wealthy people get into drugs or drinking and poor people don't?

I don't think money alone can buy happiness, but it sure goes a long way towards making most people happy. If financial problems are you biggest problem, you should actually be thankful. If you can solve that problem, than in that sense money would be the final piece to complete happiness.

First of all, what do you consider happiness? I am sure each of us our own version of what happiness is to us. I would love to be a little happier at the end of each month if I had more money left over to do what ever I wanted to do, to spend it without concern of the next bill coming into the house. Money can buy happiness if it means that all your bills are paid, everyone is healthy because they have the proper food, medical and clothing. These are all achieved by money, life revolves around money. I have lived happy with and without money, it all depends on your outlook in life and if you can see the possitive side to any situation.

I don't think it could buy my happiness, but it could bring me some peace of mind right now. I've been out of work since December 11th, my medical bills are astronomical, and all the other expenses are still there. I have no idea how much longer we are going to be able to make it on Gary's salary alone. If they hadn't made an error on his flexible spending account, and we hadn't gotten a decent sized tax return, we'd be in default on most of our bills right now. So...I could stand to win the lottery. I spend about $5.00/week praying i'll hit the jackpot.

I believe that money has the power to buy some kind of happiness. I don't believe that it will have the powers to make someone happy if they don't know what makes them happy in the first place.
Most of my worries are about money, therefore, I think that money could buy me some kind of happiness.

Money cannot buy happiness.
It does take money though to have a home, a car, ect. My take on it though is money can buy you your dream house and car but, does it ultimately make you happier and what else do you want that you can't have?
People who are wise with money and use it wisely and make good choices with money are happy. People who have a lot of money and choose to dedicate their lives to HELPING others - I think this is an example where money does buy you that happiness...

No, it can not buy your health. But it can certainly pay for the doctors that will make a house calls, nurses that stay around 24 hours, maids to keep the house in order, a limo driver for when it comes time to go to the hospital. And I certainly won't get any sicker by looking at the medical bills.

Money cannot buy happiness. But I guess you have to make money in order to be able to say that.
After you've made more than enough money, ask yourself on a bad day, does this make me happy?
Money is a library card to pay the bills. That's all. It causes more stress in an unhappy situation if your bills aren't paid.
