I was going to sign up for some affiliate programs, but stopped signing up when they asked for social security number. I saw that the sites send out 1099 forms.

I don't have a business license for my site, and am just concerned that if I sign up for one of these programs, it will mess with my taxes or cause trouble having a website.

Can someone shed some light on what this does to your taxes? And, do you have to have a business license to run a site?

No, you don't have to have a license to run a site...all a 1099 form is what you get for being a non-employee (sub-contracter) of a company....the reason they issue those is you have to pay the social security and medicare taxes on what you earn after expenses are taken out...

I hope this makes sense because I am not fully awake yet...need coffee...
