I just received this email below, why I find it interesting is posted after.

There are still way too many members who are have not changed their interests because they are not viewing the correct version of the page. I was able to get one member's attention today about this and I'd like to personally thank her for taking the time to change her browser setting and get the most recent version of the page! Thank you pinkdragon!

I'm going to say this once. If you are not viewing the most recent version of http://www.emailmatters.com/pages/userinfo.php
which is 4/27/03 and your interest reflect anything before that your account is obsolete. You need to make this a priority. Please!

The page is dated. There is no excuse.  In addition, I have chosen to block Browsers that do not identify themselves. If you are receiving an error message of this nature you need to find out how to fix this.  Perhaps the following might help. Change the browser, logoff, delete your cookies (not sure if that is the problem) reboot and try to login and access your links again.

These are rules we have to go by in order to guarantee real accounts and honest readers.

Fix your browsers to ones that identify themselves as well as make sure they get the newest version of the user info page every time you visit or everytime you start your browswer.

Thank you

Mike Hawkins

Ok, why does it matter what browser someone is using. You cant stop someone using one type of browser if they want to use it. Forcing people to use other types of browser just to use your site isnt right. I think if you are only going to allow certain browsers then it should be reflected in your Terms that you only allow browsers such as IE and Netscape.

Interesting indeed....and if it's meant to stop stuff like the auto-read program that's got so much attention lately, it's misguided. What's to stop the makers of said programs simply making the program identify as IE or whatever?

Very odd.

It wont..

I have a program somewhere here called Quarterdeck, it has email and browsing capabilities. But it has a lot of problems with sites which is why I dont use it. But the program is old, least 4 to 5 years old, probably a version out now that is right...

All I am asking is to read the emails. That is what I pay people for. I don't go to the ptr's I'm in unless I have the time to read and pay attention. What is wrong with that?

You might be using an auto reader. I don't care. But, click on a debit link and you'll lose money. It's plain and simple.

Get Paid To Read.

People who have not updated their interests 2 months ago are using a stale version of the page...or in my opinion by experience...have seen that it could aslo mean a script that makes the accounts for them. I spend as many hours honing and watching EmailMatters as you do clicking on links of 10 different programs. I am sorry if you disagree with my requests.

I provide advertising for point and cash redemption. I also sell advertising that offers cash incentives. I offer 50% of my profits to the hard workers. I offer 10%,5%, 2%,5% incentives on 4 levels plus a 10% reseller commission for those who bring in advertisers (1st level advertiser who chooses to simply advertise and not read).

Unfortunately, the cheaters like other terrorists in the world have caused us to have to put up with a little extra inconvencience. But is using a real browser instead of a robot script really that much of an inconvience to us? If you are legitmately working the program, do you even notice that the scripts are checking to be sure you are using a real browser?

I don't have a problem with that, the only question I have is what is defined as a "real browser".

I'm assuming you're using the User-agent header to determine what browser is being used. Which browsers do you consider valid? IE? Netscape? Mozilla? Opera? CrazyBrowser? EarthBrowser? Lynx? GeoBrowser? etc etc?

The other thing, as I pointed out, is that if people are using robot scripts to do their surfing, it's extraordinarily easy to make said scripts pretend to be any browser they want. Checking browsers doesn't help when the script tells you it's IE6.

And no, generally you wouldn't notice that it's being checked. The only problem arises if someone's using a browser that you don't know about, that the script decides isn't real. That being said, I don't know exactly how you've written the script, so this may not be an issue.

You're entitled to put whatever measures in place you feel are necessary, I was just trying to point out where you may have problems because of it aa.gif

Well I don't understand alot of tech stuff, but I always follow the directions. I don't see the big deal with making sure you informations is updated, and the page you are taking about is always set to the correct stuff... I actually appreciate it, so I know when I send an ad, people are actually paying attention and reading. ab.gif I think Emailmatters is doing a fine job. ab.gif ae.gif ab.gif
