Why can't AOL members join half these programs?
Although I'm part of six PTR programs now, I've found that some very good PTR sites won't register those that use AOL.
I have an AOL address (because its free now) but I use Fire Fox as a browser.
Should I submit request to join through a yahoo or hotmail address instead, and would that be acceptable?
Thanks for any help

Your question is rather confusing. Are you saying you use AOL to access the internet? Or their email or both?
I don't see why anyone is still stuck with AOL these days. Verizon offers DSL as low as $14.XX per month when sign on for a year.

It's 20x faster than dial up, which usually costs to dial out for internet plus monthly fees from provider.

AOL blocks a lot of emails and bounces them back so as a result some of the PTR's prefer members use a different email provider. Yahoo is a good one or even hotmail. Both have free accounts and you can use them with your IE and instead of AOL even if that is how you access the internet.
Hope that has helped.
edited for spelling.

I've been a member of AOL for a while because I liked the spyware and virus protection. I never liked browsing with it though -- which is why I my AOL for email and use Firefox for surfing the web.
What I found in the past few days is when I started registering for PTR sites, puting down an AOL address automatically brought up the message that my ISP wasn't aloud.
I thought it was strange until I got some insight. I'll just use Yahoo email.
Thanks for your help

AOL is horrible, and not just because the browser sucks. They've gotten to the point where so many people are fed up with overpaying for their crap service that they are refusing to let subscribers cancel. They are being sued in at least six states as a result. If you are only using them for the protection, download a free anti-virus program and firewall from
Major Geeks (I use Zone Alarm and AVG Free) and get DSL or cable. You can even conitnue to use your AOL mail if you want.

Don't believe it has anything to do with the "e-Mail Provider" you choose... be it AOL e-Mail or Yahoo or other... It has to do with the IP (Internet Provider) you access the internet by/with...
Most PTR programs... especially the programs that offer mostly Paid To Search Links cannot accept members who cannot be (very important for payment able to be received by the advertisers of the Search Engines that offer you... the paid links...) traced to a bona fida IP address.
To find whether they (a program) may consider you to be either a Proxy or non Proxy there are many ways of testing your Proxy or non-Proxy status. One is...
http://www.all-nettools.com/toolbox,netProxy Test Check if your proxy is truly anonymous. This test tries to detect your real IP address even if connected via a proxy server.
Click <Check>
Proxy Detection:
If... it does not display Proxy Server Not DetectedThen you are considered to be Proxy thus not accepted by most of those programs.

AOL is honestly not good for email except maybe personal mail. It has its moments where it decides "hey, lets bounce a bunch of mails and drive the users nuts"! It never has that issue with AOL mails, just with other mails sending and receiving. That is why I keep my screen name that my parents let me have since they get 5 and only needed 2, so that they can get a hold of me with no issues.
Also I have reported the fact that their web mail spawns tons of popups and crashes my browser, and yet it still is doing it, so I can only open it in firefox now or risk Crazy Browser crashing on me, and at times it won't even load at all, so I have to go and load the actual program, ugh.
I like gmail much better for PTR, very little spam it rarely has problems with bouncing mails and no one seems to have an issue with a gmail account, plus its free and has some of the best qualities for organizing massive amounts of mails a day.
If you want a gmail invite, just PM me with your email addy and I will send you an invite.
Yahoo isn't bad either, but it will get spammed like crazy and you can't train its spam filter as well as you can train gmails, so your choices are to turn it off or have to check the bulk mail folder like crazy.
And Eastway, not even going to begin to comment on Verizon, I just know I would never use their service, but then when you support something you tend to get a lower view on things and also see how a company treats its customers when things go wrong.
