What types of advertising can I purchase through the programs? Do they have to be get paid programs or all business types?

you can buy banner impressions and pay-to-click banners, e-mail ads (paid and unpaid ones)
you can advertise whatever you want -most programs would not accept adult advertising, but any other thing is fine, it does not have to be GPT related

the question is, how well does it work when advertising something other than get paid on a get paid site??

I think it really depends on what you are trying to sell. I mean if you target the wrong product to the wrong group of consumers of course it is not going to sell! Also, it depends if your products have good unique selling points.

You are very right. I myself do a variety of things but one I really want to advertise is my Gabby Goodies site for now. Do any of you do online business's other than GPTR?
