I started using firefox a couple months ago. I like it but my computer doesn't seem to. It keeps slowing down. I ran several scans...all clean. Tried defrag and other optimizations. Nothing worked. Started looking at memory and cpu usage and they are off the charts. Task manager shows firefox pulling more memory than anything else. I don't know what to do sometimes cpu usage is at 94%. My computer freezes often.

go into tools options, privacy cache and see how many mb you have in there..
If you have too much in your cache that could cause problems but i have never had a problem before i guess because my computer is always upgraded..LOL

I never had the problem you mention, but I know other people have. Maybe you should look at these sites for a solution:

I looked through some of the firefox forums about memory leaks and extentions, so I uninstalled the extenstions. Still had the problem. Maybe I should reinstall the whole program without the extenions.
I just looked at the cache it was set to 50mb. I just set it to 4mb seems to help alot.
Can't upgrade this computer anymore it only holds 512 memory. Bought a new one but I'm afraid to use it for PTR and Traffic exchanges.

Does this problem occur even with one tab open? Or is it when you have multiple tabs running?

It only happens with multiple tabs, but with as few as two or three open. It's been OK so far since I lower the cache number, but I haven't had a chance to really test it out to see if it's fixed yet.

That one seems to have helped a lot of people on another forum I'm on.

Ok. It's working better. Memory usage cut in half after following the tips on that page. Thanks everyone.
