It seems like every other email I open anymore is a plea for donations from the webmaster. ######?? What did you people do before your members came along? Everyone has a good story and maybe they're true, but it seems to me it takes an awful lot of nerve to ask your members who are here clicking for pennies for a dang handout!

Wanna hear my sob story? Let me give you my PayPal address while I'm at it... NOT!!!

We have enough trouble trying to prove that we'll pay people the $5 or $10 we owe them, then you wanna go doing this? Cut the crap out!!

AMEN SISTER!!

I just clicked on a link at a click site and it
was a plead for money.

But this person had a ton of misspelled words and no name, I'd never give money to someone without a name. I mean it isn't a charity.

And, well they had to have some kinda money to pay for the link...
badkitty
My thinking is that this message on the moneysuite is not only to get money, but maybe to get his wife to come back to him since he's "publically" apologizing.
The other question we need to ask.. is if money is that bad, how will they pay?
Susy
Umm I'm sorry, but this is our business....HOW???!!!

Don't get me wrong, I feel very bad for folks who are in all sorts of problems, and some of y'all here know I do what I can to help certain people out, but airing publically to your members the trials of your marriage is just not a "done" thing. Illness, a loved one in the war, a missing child or loved one, yes...we care and want to help with any kind of support we're able to. A webmaster who's desperately staying afloat for his members more than himself (or herself lol), yep I'll throw in those searches, hit that stupid ECF, whatever.

But to publically "beg" after abasing oneself to members is just not something a "businessperson" should do. I don't know the full gist of this, but from what I've read, this man has no other means of support? He's not working outside the internet? And has a lot of dependents? NOT GOOD!

When I was still in Texas, my accounting firm sold out, I had one full time, two part time jobs, raised my daughter, took care of two homes and families (my father with Alzheimer's), worked around an abusive husband, and stayed off Texas Welfare...and still made child support payments for that husband, paid our bills, and homeschooled my daughter. I know personally one man who had 7 kids, worked 4 jobs, and STILL had time to BE with his children ... and he even got all of them to college. All on bare minimum salary, and limited English and even his more limited education.

Uhhhhhh I'm gonna get rude here......GET REAL AND GET A LIFE BUD. OFF YOUR ARSE...GEEZZZZZZ

Was it a guy claiming to have been evicted from his home Christmas Eve? I find that one such BS. First off, if the dude's living off the streets, how is he using a computer? And, you're right--he had to get money somewhere to buy the link, and he's sent out TONS of ads, stating how very poor he is--at LEAST in excess of $50 worth. Oh, please, no sympathy vote here! And the sad part, is that he wouldn't persist so much if it wasn't working! ar.gif

But I do believe there is a place in the PTR world for it..but just at Christmas..something like what Dana did...That was fantastic to read, and great to see another side of the PTR world.

Has anyone seen the begger's site that's been asking for money to help fix his car? LOL I don't believe any of those sob stories. Grant it some of them may be true but I just don't trust it.

I just saw another sob story asking for $1 by paypal. This one is about how they have a small home, 2 children...neither parent works, because 9/11 took business away from a constrution worker.

I'm sorry I dont believe these sob stories. If these "stories" actually worked you'd see everyone having a story to tell. Hey I've been thru hardtimes, lost many close family members, but am I asking for money? NO. I'd never ask for money from strangers. If I needed money, I'd ask family first to help out.

And if times are so hard for these people and they need the money.. Then WHY NOT sell items that isn't a necessitity or go out look for odd-in jobs. I was always taught to work even if you are handicapped someway, there is always a small job out there you are able to do. Let it be babysitting for a neighbor or working in a fastfood restraunt. I know there are many out there that dont want to do those jobs, but at least it WILL bring in some money and help you out.

Just my opinion

i have to agree

the question that comes to mind is what kind of people are they.

for some unknow reason they cant ask thier family, friends, local service groups, community, possibly because theyve never made an impact on society in a positive way, or possibly because ther just scammers. but anyways alot of citys ban pan handling i think the net should enforce this too its ridiculous

between the im dying and i need an operation

or help these children of here

or im a nigerian blah blah i need to transfer 20 million

i wouldnt help 1 person on the net that made these types of pathetic pleas
tommy052366
Hmmmmmmmmmm

If all these people complain they are down on thier luck, going to be evicted, electric will be shut off. But they sit here and play on the internet GET A JOB GET OFF YOU "BACKEND" and work for a living.

This is not directed to people with health problems as I have met a few of them online and I truly believe that some systems don't help enough.

But for the one's who beg GO beg for a JOB

Thanks Jeannie for starting this topic as it has bothered me ALONG time.

I feel better now ad.gif

I had to laugh as I read this site because I'm one of the most gullible people and I'm always trying to help everyone I meet. I can't tell you how many times I've given away my earnings to help someone out. I keep telling myself it has to stop but I always remember what someone said once. What if this time it was for real and I turned my back on this person so everytime I get an e-mail that ask me to do an extra search for someone in need I guess I will keep clicking. ah.gif

I clicked on the site too and read it. I too agree it was a plea for donations. Like people will send money directly to you. Well there will be a few people that will. I admit I too have finachal problems, but don't most of us. The only differece is that there is other ways to make/raise money. That is what I did you have the other paid to read programs and searches. Do a website and away you go. The possibilities are endless am I right or am I right. ab.gif
DGE1754
All I can say is I have donated my resources from my sites to help people out. Like when there was auctions for Jade etc I donated banners ads etc.

And I always felt that Jade (or her reps in here...lol) were very grateful for what I did. I am not saying that I should be some hero for helping people out but a simple thank you goes a LONG ways

I recently helped out in another situation but I have YET to hear any kind of thank you. What ever happened to common courtesy. When someone goes out of their way to help you it's common decency to say thanks I appreciate your help IMO

i am not preaching here but these people ought to listen to the old biblical saying: "the good lord helps those that help themselves". it's called survival of the fittest and tou got to have the self worth to go out and do what you have to do to survive. i have been raising my little girl for 8 yrs now without much outside help except from my dear mom. i am disabled and not allowed to work and do get help with social security but that doesn't go far enough. now i love the internet and stuff and so you may ask well how do i afford it? i live in a tourist town and i go out and collect returnable bottles of the street here. i drag a cart down to all the boat docks and get the cans off all those wonderful boaters partying lol. they are more than happy to get rid of them off their boats. my point is even though it can physically hurt my back doing this i ain't gonna sit around and whine about my woes to people. i got a financial problem i find the way to solve it.

I know times are tough, and maybe the "poor" stories are true. But there are too many crooks out there pleading people for money to take care of their financial foes. am.gif am.gif am.gif

If you have a medical condition, ever hear of insurance.
If you can't pay rent, ever hear of savings? And if you don't have any savings . . . stop buying cigarettes, gambling
booze, junk food, individually wrapped toothpicks and every other plastic doodad that comes around. I having very little coming in and you don't see me begging for handouts.
If you child is disabled, ever here of SSDI?
If you are in financial straits and don't work, ever here of looking and taking what jobs are out there?

These people should turn to savings, family, unemployment insurace, and getting a job.

And the one I like.

A webmaster claims they are in financial straits and about to be homeless. But they can afford to run a PTR site which sometimes does not bring in enough advertising income to cover hosting.

I wondered how long it would take before people got fed up. We had a discussion abt this at another board... hence why I have donate a .01 in my sig. LOL I really am saving money for the reason but come on am I really gonna expect people to give me money?

I like the one with the lady that has cable and rents movies goes out and buys books to keep busy but needs money her cards are maxed out!

I didn't have cable before I could afford it and certainly didn't have broadband internet. We lived in my mom's house and still were poor but we didn't buy a lot of what these freaks use their money on. I agree stop spending and get a job!

The good part is I'm ok with them sending links that's an extra half cent *I* get for MY fund ROFL! ao.gif

Ok, after clicking another webbie's link to read some "threads" in the forums, I said I had only one comment. (I didn't know there was more than one link in that email, honest, or there'd only BE one comment.)

So, now, boys and grills, I find myself in the position of having to make another comment, or two, or however many it takes...

1) DON'T GIVE A SINGLE CENT TO THIS GUY OR ANY OTHER WANNABE-WEBMASTER WHO ASKS FOR MONEY FROM PEOPLE IN ORDER TO MAKE OTHER PAYOUTS!!! I mean, let's get real.
2) The person who said "it must [unfortunately] be working or he/she wouldn't be so persistant" is right. And I hate to say this, but anyone who fell for this line and actually GAVE money to this person must be as sad a loser as the THIEF begging for the money.
3) NO serious business person is going to lower themselves AND THE BUSINESS THEY'RE TRYING TO RUN by being this pathetic in public. As a serious business person, honest but not pathetic to my members, I'd be embarrassed to have MY business advertised there after this performance!!!
4) It takes a village to raise a child -- one the child has actual contact with. Regardless of how sympathetic you may be to this person's plight, unless you've met this person face-to-face, you're letting yourself be the victim of someone using their children to make a buck if you support this charade. AND -- it's not in THE CHILD'S interest to encourage the parents, either of them, to use their children this way -- if they (the parents) get away with this, they teach these same values either directly or indirectly to the children they're asking you to help.
5) If anyone out there has a buck or two they don't need, there are plenty of LEGITIMATE organizations to which donations can be sent.
6) Anyone got a light? I'm having a nicotine fit looking for my matches -- makes as much sense as a "help me raise my kids" plea on the internet.

last but not least....
7) Not only don't I have a light, I'm OUT OF CIGARETTES!! AAAAHHHH!!! But I know where the cigarette store is. aa.gif

PS Why did I go to the trouble of creating a user name when I put my real one at the end of my messages? Oh, well, least my user name fits me, huh?

This is the first time I got around to reading this thread.
Too many threads....too little time.....

Audrey WAS about to be homeless. She had already made arrangements with the homeless shelter.

Country-Cash-Inn belongs to ME. Audrey is my manager there. It doesn't cost her anything at all.

Audrey has a very serious, terminal illness. She is all but bed-ridden. She has applied for SSDI, but still going through the hoops to get it started. It could be months before she finally gets that first check.

Audrey has an ancient, barely-running computer that she bought second hand a few years back at a garage sale. A friend of hers was able to make it internet-ready for her. We're hoping that it will last until she can get a better one. Her computer-savvy friend has been able to keep it going so far.

Audrey never asked for a handout. I did for her, and she just about died of embarrasment. She had no idea I was going to do that.

Please don't be too quick to judge. Yes, there are scammers, but there are real cases, too.

I don't know these other stories, so I cannot comment on them.

Audrey is on food stamps. So far that's the only aid she has been able to get.

She has 3 family members. Her 2 children, and a severely disabled sister. There is no other family.

I can also comment on myself.

I have been homeless in the past, and had no family to help. I've been there, I know what it's like.

Perhaps that's why I look at these things a little differently than some people.

Just in case you are referring to Audrey, she sent a thank you e-card to every single person who helped her that she had an email address for.

It's possible that for some reason yours got lost in cyberspace.

She was overwhelmed by everyone's generosity, but the 2 people who really made her cry was you and another wm named Ray (I can't remember his ptr at the moment).

i know one off hand, that i won't say who because i would truly offend the person, who lately has been using her paid to site to get money off people, instead of giving money to THEM.
always in such a mess, but says herself she doesn't want to work, even something simple because that'd be too stressful. says all the time she's going broke from her paid to read site, and blew lots of money on it , and was NOT in a situation where that should have been done.

i've been getting sort of tired of all these people trying to get donations. if someone was in need of help, towns area always willing to put donation boxes in resturaunts, gas stations, stores etc.

if you have a site, you need oney, you SELL your site. how hard is that??
e-gold forum message boards i've also noticed a lot of "i need money for this, i need money for that" "pay my way through college"
as if all of us are just living in luxioury.
davidbugs
All you have to do just ignore them the message. You don't have give the donation. It is possible tottaly scam.
nadia_amal
the ignore option would be easier if they would put on subject "donations appreciated" or whatever, instead of "IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!"
you think it's something to do with the site, then click and read "i broke my big toe and need money. please donate to my paypal addres scamartist@givememoney.com
it's getting to the point i almost hesitate reading "IMPORTANT" or "urgent" or "please read"
talliabeth
Webmasters (or anyone really) begging for donations is probably my biggest pet peeve with PTR's at the moment. Recently it seems that everyone and their brother has a sob story. I guess that I'm not the most compassionate person when it comes to things like this, but I guess that I am a member of the get a job and work for your money school of thought. I know that life is hard (from personal experience), I think we all do. But, I don't go around expecting handouts.

At the same time. There are moments when I am like 'Well...if it works, I could quit my jobs and concentrate on school and have time to hang out with my friends.' And, it must work, because people continue to do it.

~Tallia
