I don't think It is not For Dial up. It is also for High Speed internet.

They often use 56k dial-up as a benchmark cause not everyone has high-speed connections.

I absolutely refuse to click Polar PTP's (when I know that's what I'm clicking...lol)

They usually have 8 active X ads on their page and takes a good 20 seconds to fully load on my high speed cable. thumbdown.gif

Don't know how anyone is making any money promoting it cause even at 20 seconds, the page is still loading...I just close the window even though I always like to give the advertisers their credit...this is just TOO much!! thumbdown.gif

However,it's true that polar ptp's loads so slow.Yep,I can wait it loading, but how about other ads readers?Sorry but I'm afraid most of them won't.As this, the ads results' so bad.

We've got IP block, tiers, approved sites already.Do we need slow loading to make the cpm lower?

I feel down with the speed of polar ptp's loading.I can only tell myself -- OK,CAC didn't load at all most time even huh.gif Not bad that I'm not a member....

Then I guess it is no hard task to tell which ads include activex if you know count of them already?

I am working on removing the layer ad but I havent come up with ad setup that would replace the revenue from the layer ad.

I also did some benchmarking and testing to our PTP page because I see so many complains about it.

Test environment:
Unpatched Windows 2000
Unpatched Internet Explorer
No antivirus software of any kind while testing
No firewall of any kind while testing
No popup blocker
No ad blocker
ActiveX enabled, internet security left at default value.
Connection speed 10/10Mbits
Computer itself is fast enough that it doesnt slow down pages (AMD 1600+)

So perfect environment to collect all the nasties from the Internet. (Yes, I have one computer for testing purposes...)

After several visits to different PTP urls, including our own... Not a single PTP url gave any kind of viruses (which is very good). All of them were pretty slow to load and PolarPTP didnt stand out in slowness compared to other PTPs. Max popups I get from one page was one (which is also very good).

ps. at least for me, Firefox loads PTP pages faster than IE...

I am still wondering if this is a country you click from thing.I know we get lots of complaints about the popups etc on randomriches and polar has been suspended a few times but when I test it here in the UK the most I get is one popup and never any virus alerts. This is happening repeatedly with lots of the ptp pages and I know I have tested them all when they are submitted but I am not clever enough to understand why some people are getting so much trouble from them and I dont. I think you're right about some of the pop ups being geo targetted. When the US members complain about pop ups, I don't get any. When I get the multiple pop ups, US members don't and think I'm a spyware infested whiner. wacko.gif

I have noticed this as well. It definitely seems to be some sort of targeted issue.

Yup, geotargetting is being used more and more by advertisers. There is even at least one "free" webhosting service in the USA which shows hardcore porn pages to the UK instead of people's pages they are supposed to be showing thumbdown.gif

Sorry Jutaki, I couldn't tell you...you see I have ActiveX disabled and I use CrazyBrowser. I get 2 dialogue boxes telling me I have ActiveX disabled for every ActiveX ad (1 from CrazyBrowser and 1 from Internet Explorer). They popup one after another as many as 8 times, so it would be 4 ads. Those boxes start popping up before your header even displays and I always know it's a polar ad. They hang me up for as much as 60 seconds where I can't do anything!! I like your site, but the PTP pages are VERY annoying...

Sorry I can't offer any other info, but I can't even see the pages for the popup dialogue boxes....I just try to close the window as quickly as I can... sad.gif

I clicked someones polar here on a high speed connection (I don't usually use one but am on one now) and it took 12 seconds to load sad.gif
