Does anyone know what dumprep.exe is. Last couple of days a couple of search engines are freezing up internet explorer and outlook express where the email is and I have to ctrl, alt and delete to close it all down. As I am closing it down my cpu usage goes up to 100% and about 6 or 7 of these dumpprep.exe keep loading. I kill all the dumprep.exe processes then it closes ie and outlook and things go back to normal. I run scans and nothing seems to have got in and nothing else is acting up on pc just it happened again a few minutes ago and was wondering what it was?

So dumprep.exe is those silly annoying send error report messages that i always click to say no to. Still must be something dodgy on those search engines for internet explorer to freeze up and still dont know why it uses up all my cpu usage. Only explanation I can think of is theres something trying to get in via this search engine and its not managing it but causing system to get errors and freeze up. If it happens again I will look see if any other strange processes are starting up. Thanx for that info.

Error reporting is not necessary.
you can turn off error reporting if you don't want it by going to:
System Properties | Advanced | Error Reporting | "Disable error reporting".

Dumpprep.exe is a Microsoft Dump Reporting Tool.
Dumpprep.exe is a part of Windows Operation System.
It is used to prepare error report after system or program crash.
Dumpprep may be disabled via Control Panel, System, Additional, Error Reporting dialog.

So close any cusotmer experience program u r running. For example if you are running visual studio 2005, there will be a customer exp program running by default, which we can see in the bottom of the screen,i.e near to clock. End that, your problem will be solved.

Wow amazing you join the forum and out of hundreds err thousands of threads you find a thread that is over 2 years old to post in. Thank you for the reply I hope someone makes use of the tip you gave on how to disable dumpprep.

I know this is an old thread but..

dumprep itself is normal, but the issue with it described here sounds like an exploit causing a buffer overflow as it tries to put a trojan on your PC. That is something you need to watch out for in PTR!
