Some nasty person seems to be hitting the PTPs with a porn pop up. I just got it at AquaMails and a MenBoo. It won't close by any method other than Ctrl-Alt-Del, it just displays a new page. And it's VERY VERY graphic.

I have a clean computer (just ran full scale spyware/virus scans 4 minutes before I hit the links and immediately after) more than adequate protection and a very effective pop up blocker (as in I have seen 6 pop ups in the past month), so don't try to tell me it's my fault.

is it just me, or does anyone else see a post above yours, 2kids2pets?

Yep, it's been brought up in issues.

well one other way to close it would probably be alt+f4

Otherwise im sure they are taking advantage of the hightraffic and then as u do ctrl+alt+del itll close all t he windows and you were clueless to what website it came from.. These pay huge money too, I'm sure their cpm rate is in the high $10 per 1000 hits

Alt+f4 just refreshed it as did escape and clicking on the little x in the upper right corner.

I also have parental controls which are set to block everything and always do, much to my 14 year old sons' dismay.

i had to go in safe mode to get rid of it. I clicked some kind of link in yourptr. Then, a whole set of garbage downloads. It hijacked my browser. It took me a 15 minutes to get rid of it completely. Be careful it gets thru adawar and the others.

I've quit 3 of my PTR porograms this week because of viruses and other garbage. I'm tired of dealing with it. sad.gif The little that I make just isn't worth it to me anymore. I'm waiting for ads to finish and then am quitting them. I got 5 virus notices, 3 were when your PTR has loaded. They've all been PTP pages that have hit me with them. wallbash.gif With summer here, I needed to cut back anyway. And I make more money writing on Epinions than I do on my PTRs. I don't viruses from there, either, knock on wood. smile.gif

And when I Control-Alt-Delete it brings up a menu and I select what I want closed. It doesn't close all of my windows.
the lil crusader
I'm rapidly getting to the point where I'm reluctant to click on PTP ads too. I hate feeling that way because I know with several sites PTP earnings have become the main way to make money since most ads are for points -- I depend on them too -- but I also depend on my computer to do my real life job everyday and I make a lot more from that than I'll ever make from anything online, so it's just not worth the risk.
dzschau
I have also seen some porn slide in popups. Sometimes its for those smilies and other times I've seen it for a porn dating service.

I dont believe its the webmasters of the PTPs that are doing it, its the advertising on the slide ins.

What the affiliates of these particular slideins advertisements need to do is go into their account and see if their is a way to opt out of certian kind of advertisments that show up in those popups.

CoffeeAddiction
I must be lucky ( knock on wood).. Havent gotten any porn pop ups.. granted i wouldnt be to offended by them anyways
(imagine being 12 popping in a video you thought was Dazed and Confused and it turned out to be Casanova rated xxxxxxxxxxxx)

but if my daughter is around id get perturbed as I dont need her telling ppl she saw BooBoos on mommys comp...

There are a few ptp that spring Trojan warnings each time I click so those I dont even bother doing anymore..

Things need to be cleaned up thumbdown.gif
Cornholio
The one I got happened a couple weeks ago. It was a seriously industrial strength pop up. I ended up having to shut my system down and reboot because no matter what I did to close it, another one would open and it took over all the open windows I had.

It was aggrivating, but nothing major until my kids walked in and I had to throw myself in front of the puter to stop them from getting flashed. YIKES!

The first one I see is just Spam, it has nothing to do with porn pop ups?

Maybe I was in the sun too long today? wacko.gif

I saw the porn popup as well but had no problem closing it out (unless there's more than one). The one I saw opened in a new full-size page and had a black background - that's about all since I saw because I realized what it was and closed it quickly. I'm using Opera instead of IE so maybe that made a difference.

THANK YOU for bringing this up! I thought I was going blink.gif blink.gif since no one had commented previously. I've been getting porn slide-ins mostly on Amigo Email and a few other traffic exchanges. I did multiple virus/spyware/adware scans and came up empty each time. Add this to getting 10+ virus alerts (which I immediately deleted from temp files after being alerted) on SAS, DAILY, and I've given up on ALL traffic exchange clicks. It's just not worth the hassle anymore.

The best part? I have more time to focus on more important things smile.gif

Thanks for restoring my sanity biggrin.gif

I've been getting them at SAS, too. sad.gif I stopped doing the manual surf programs, at least for a while. It's just not worth the hassle for 10 cents, or whatever, anymore. sad.gif I didn't say anything sooner because I knew as soon as I did I'd hear how I needed to change my browser and such. I don't want to. I like IE and haven't had a problem until lately. I keep my anti-virus and such up to date. I dunno. Just not worth it anymore. sad.gif

I use IE too and I like it. I've rarely had problems because I use updated security and parental blocks. In the past 12 months, I've had 4 virus/tojans and get maybe 4 spyware thingys per week, might see 1 or 2 pop ups per day.

I've stopped clicking a lot of PTP links because they cause more problems with my computer in one week than all other internet activity in a whole year.

I don't know what the solution would be because there are just too many unscrupulous people who send this stuff out and even though the WMs do their best, they can't stay on top of it all. sad.gif

I won't repost my whole list of things to protect your computer but there was a thread last week with several good suggestions as well as I have posted two posts that would help with protecting your computer.

It is sad that the problems are coming from third parties. But you also have to notify program owners so they are aware of the problem. Most will respond quickly to removing things like this or at least I know I would if it showed up on my sites.

Do you know which sites on SAS are giving you the virus alerts? I haven't seen any recent posts of viruses, and obviously very concerned to see people are having problems.

You know I do a lot of PTPs and have yet to meet a porn pop (thank goodness) maybe Im just lucky?

They were PTP sites, but I can't remember which ones. After the 3rd one I got fed up and stopped surfing. At least for now. I may or may not bother with it anymore. sad.gif

Thanks lisado. There's not that many of the ptp sites that are active, we've got several on pause for forced downloads and bad popups, and I had to pause one that was running yesterday for that, but I'll try and have a look at the ones we do have active and see if any give me any viruses or d/l prompts and pause them if I find anything.

I just reported a page for a virus on SAS. Some page about home loans or something. I didn't know what else to do. sad.gif I couldn't find a link to the actual page to report it any other way.
ajax
I avoid PTP, that is the only way to avoid viruses that these sites seem to promote. Thankfully most Autosurfers are banning these sites, for these very reasons.

It's pity that a few can ruin it for so many sad.gif

Oh well the world is full of ######.

PS I run Accelatore Browser which has a pop-up blocker and is does a mean job of blocking 99% of pop-ups, but those PT P are the worst offenders at getting through sad.gif

Thank you. Aaron and I are desperately trying to find the cause.

SAS is one of the ones I rarely ever have a problem with. I haven't had a bad pop up or a dowload attempt from any SAS page in a long long time. Wish I could say the same about some of the others. I'd really like to be able to click them and feel safe rather than delete almost half of them.

Up until this past week or so I was saying the same thing. SAS was one that I always felt comfortable surfing because I never had any problems. This week, though, I was hit at HBH, TKC and SAS. sad.gif Might be the same people running the same site on them or something, I don't know. Up until this week I never had a problem with any of the few sites that I still do. It's been annoying, lemme tell ya! sad.gif I wish people would find something else to do than to invent viruses and post them on the web. They could put their brains to better use. Cure a disease. Cure world hunger. Something! sad.gif
2kids2pets
I spoke too soon about SAS. I had 17 problem pages last night. They all had the same ad "1G mail by Walla Me" and they froze up my computer each time. sad.gif It took 7 minutes just to report the page. Switched to Firefox, but that particular ad still jams up everything. It doesn't give me any virus alerts but it's trying to load something that my computer can't handle.
ajax
I came across one today (not unusual) that had trojanbyte embedded in the code sad.gif

Not happy Jan, AVG and Norton quarantined it, but it is contant. and that is why I avoid SAS like the plague.

Once I had to uninstall Java and re-install and it took me 12 hours sad.gif (Dial up of 31.2)

Boy was I unimpressed
lisado
I've avaoided it this week. Someone has really gone to town adding viruses and stuff to SAS pages. I wish I had nothing better to do than to cause havoc for other people. sad.gif
