Anyone have any ideas how to bypass this;

Our other computer got something nasty in it (can't allocate what it is just yet), BUT the main problem is that as the Windows 2000ME makes these memory points or whatever they're called now that we started the computer again it jumped back to the state it was 1 ? years ago!!! Screensavers, desktop images and everything!!! It even brought back Norton which we haven't used in ages, somehow everything that has been deleted from the hd is there again as it was 18 months ago.....*snif*
How could we get back to something a bit more recent than 18 months ago??? sad.gif

Jani's trying very hard to fix this but he's starting to get really frustrated because all his writings are on the hd and now they're all gone exept for those he has uploaded to a server which he hasn't done in like the past 3 months or so sad.gif

Ideas, questions, anything....I'll ask him for more specific answers if needed.

*Hugs*

a bit of good news,

Jani found his writings, the stupid computer had created a new folder called 'omni' and it was hidden, now all his newer writings are mysteriously there blink.gif Well, atleast they're "safe", he now uploaded them to a server and printed out. smile.gif

He was also able to find more recent memory points but the computer doesn't allow them to be used but runs in the verrry old state, it keeps on finding old bits of Norton and that seems to be messing things up aswell...most stuff he finds he can't get rid of. (everything done through the *hates when she doesn't know what computer terms are in english* error/problem mode you can get while the computer is still starting itself...and then going to cd\windows\command and from c to scanrec/restore. or sumetin like that anyways heh....)

dunno what we could really do. unsure.gif or well, maby get a new computer if we could afford it sleep.gif

cause most of the viewers don't know the answer i guess unsure.gif
(of course, me among them. this is my 3rd time reading this thread tongue.gif )

it seems to me that your computer's got infected by some kind of virus.
real nasty one. honestly i've never heard of any symptoms like that.

if i were you, i'd
1. call a tech-guy to see if it's possible to save the recent data
2. save your data as much as possible and format it away sad.gif

The problem is we don't have a place to save all that data to, we'd need an additional hd which we don't have sad.gif

I guess we got to manage with one computer until payday and then get a hd and start with the saving and then format sad.gif

it sucks when computer messes up sad.gif

if you have a cd-rw, you can use it to
save real important data in cds temporarily.
i do that all the time you know unsure.gif

if the data size isn't too big,
can you like borrow cd-rw somewhere?

cause you don't really need to call a tech-guy
if you've already decided to format your puter unsure.gif

best of luck on saving your data, pia sad.gif

We have a cd burner but since the computer is messed up it wont work sleep.gif

but that's ok, Jani just called his mom who transfered us 140?'s and we went and got a new 250 GB Hard Drive!!! thumbup.gif

It only cost 139?'s ($178)

It's a internal 3.5-inch hd, 250 GB storage capacity (unformatted), 7200 rpm with 16 MB cache memory, Ultra ATA/133 interface, max data transfer rate 133 MB/s

quarantee 36 months.

Ok not the best out there but with that price it's awesome find over here!!! rolleyes.gif

Yes, you can imagen Jani's already working on the computer tongue.gif Once he gets all the important stuff saved he's gonna format the whole junk.
