Anyone know of a good program? This pc is having some errors, ran all night yet the errors not corrected, thus the defragment thingy will not go through it's cycle.
Have you cleaned for spyware recently? Often times with win 98/ME if you're loaded up with spyware, defrag won't run.

Scan and defrag in Safe Mode. That way programs running in the background will stop triggering the "Drives contents have changed. Restarting" prompt for it to start allllllll over again and again and again. It may still take awhile, but it will work.
You could try System Mechanic too. It has a 30 day free trial. I just started playing with it and I like it.
Also get CCleaner from MajorGeeks, and use it to clean those temp files and scan for registry issues regularly.
Edited to add AVOID DiscKeeper at all costs. It bypassed my windows prompt completely and I had to reformat because it would not let me access anything except itself. It doesn't seem to like Windows98 at all.

ty. He had some virus but managed to get rid of some, I got rid of more, plus the spyware. Haven't tried the defrag yet. We forgot. Puter running pretty well though, except there is a .dll file corrupt. I soo hate any win product below 2k!
Thanks for all your help and advice, folks.
