i would like to make my website from scratch on a free website. i would like to dump my tripod site cause the pop ups cause to much grief for some webmasters when i want to advertise. could someone suggest a good freeware program? a friend told me about dreamweaver but it's a shareware trial and i don't intend on getting the patch to bypass that like they suggest. i feel that's cheating. i have frontpage express 2002 but the trial is running out before i have a chance to learn from it.

You should ask around and see if anyone is willing to make a site for you. If not, even Microsoft Word can make websites.

i appreciate the thought of someone doing it for me but i want to do it myself complete with pulling my hair out when i get frustrated. i need to learn it for myself so i can do it you know.

lol i better get a spellchecker with that too.

Yeah, you might have to search around a bit. I've never seen a free web designing program before...only trials and all that.

they even have some great tools to put in you website!

You can go to http://www.tucows.com/internet.html and checkout one of the categories under Web Building Tools. They have links to download the software and will tell you whether the software is shareware or freeware. A rating is also provided.

If you know html, go with the "html editor" category. Otherwise go for "wgsiwyg" (what you see is what you get).

If you are looking for freeware only, "html editor" gives you more selection. And html is not difficult to learn at all. You can pick up a beginner's book get a feel and then jump right in.

I use arachnophilia but I just went to the web site and it is no longer being offered It was freeware and it was great!

Though I wouldn't recommend notepad when you're just starting to learn HTML. There are some pretty good free HTML programs out there, as you can read above..
With those programs it's easier to follow what your doing and easier to see where you went wrong if it doesn't work. I don't recall the name of the program I used to use for creating my website, so can't help you out with that, sorry.

I may disagree...
I learned HTML by myself and I am pretty good now ^.^
if you learn using HTML programs you can hardly fix anything manually later... and if you know HTML you can customize it as you want to ^^
