I revived the thread for those who missed it last year (that includes me, LOL; I just found it by searching).
Adding a critical note to the story (the link still works):
the origins of Valentine's Day are disputed, as with most traditions..
To begin with, there are possible pagan or Medieval theories to explain how February 14 became synonymous with romance.
And the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred on February 14 -- at least two of those in Italy during the 3rd century.
