Hi Guys,

Apart from your first language, which other languages u can understand and speak smile.gif

My first language is Urdu and I'm expert in it

Other languages which i know are

1) English (Can read, write, speak, understand)
2) Punjabi (A native language of Pakistan and India, can speak and understand)
3) Sindhi (A native language of Pakistan and India, can read only coz i studied it in school until matric)
4) Hindi (It is almost same as Urdu apart from few words. I can speak and understand Hindi but can't read or write coz it is totally different when it comes to writing.)

P.S. I know a few words and phrases of Portuguese too which a friend of mine told me wink.gif

Hablo un poco Espa?ol. I read it better than I speak it though. I know lots of curse words too smile.gif

Ich kann ein Deutsch sprechen. Although again better at reading it, the verbs always confuse me in German.

Its been many years but I was pretty proficient in Latin when I was in high school- LOL not sure how much use that would be even if I did remember it all still.

English - about 12 years?
Russian - 6 years (still doesn't speak it very well, if all blink.gif )
German - 3 years
Finnish - 1 year plus have watched Finnish TV my whole life.

I know some words in Dutch from my dutch friends.

German - I manage with it after studying it for 4 years

Also I used to be fluent in dutch while growing up, have forgotten a whole lot but when I hear or read it I can still somehow get the "picture", it's actually really weird, I suppoce the language is stuck deep in my brains and I'd just need to dig it out again smile.gif

5: Spanish 6-4-7

One of my cousin is learning french and once i asked her to speak in french... Boy it was so difficult. You have to make extra use of throat to speak french.

Btw, has anyone invented his/her own language to speak with family or friends. Once me and my cousins tried to do it but all in vain laugh.gif

Well kind of, when we were younger we used to speak i-language quite a lot, that's when you change all the vowels into i's tongue.gif That sounds so funny and you can still understand what the other person was saying lol

semi-fluent in french and spanish. used to really be fluent, but now that it's been a few years since i studied either of them, it takes me a day or two to get back into it. dutch, i can understand a bit, and know enough to order my favorite foods. japanese i know enough to introduce myself, and ask directions, and (my favorite) tell people i'm crazy and i'm going home. know a bit of hawaiian from when i lived there.

I'm the same way with dutch. Grew up listening to my grandparents speak it, and when I was 10 I spent the summer there, and within a month or so was pretty fluent. Now I can understand what someone is saying usually, but have a hard time coming up with the words to respond. blink.gif

I used to be fluent in Spanish, but that was til I was about 4-5 years old, since then I've lost my knowledge of it all. I can count to 10 and say milk and water now and a few curse words laugh.gif tongue.gif

I am fairly decent in German, took that language for about 8 years. And my mother in law gives me some tips as she came here from Hamburg when she was a girl and speaks fluent and is amazed I know more than her 2 boys laugh.gif

I can understand a few words in Tiawanese. My stepgrandmother is from there so I hear a bit of words every time we visit and pick up on it, but wouldn't understand to much wink.gif

4. Swedish (fairly good although I have forgotten a lot unsure.gif )
5. German (understand much better than I speak)
6. Flamish (understand much better than I speak)

i wish i could learn chinese. if you know chinese and/or japanese, you can make serious good money woking at a place like digi-key (that is in the town where i live). they sell electronics parts worldwide, and if you can speak chinese or japanese they will hire you on the spot and pay you between $16-$24 / hour
