Way Cool!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif

I love a good haunted house story. My father always told me stories about his grandfather and the haunted houses he lived in. The first house was a house that had been partially destroyed a fire in which a woman and her child had died. It had been rebuilt before my great-grandfather bought it. At the time my great-grandparents only had one child who was only a few weeks old. Every afternoon my great-grandmother would leave the infant son on a quilt in the living room floor while she went out to milk the cow. Several times she came back to find the fire out and the child moved - once even finding him out in the yard on the quilt. Another house they lived in every night at around 1 o'clock in the morning the front door would open and close and the sound of footsteps up the stairs and the sound of people laughing and talking in one of the upstairs bedroom. My great-grandfathers solution what to simply tell them they needed to be quiet because people were trying to sleep in the house. They were very polite ghosts who always obliged and the talking became a whisper.

The house I grew up in was haunted. I often head footsteps and felt someone tap me on the shoulder - so did my brother. I have since heard from ghost hunters who say that is very common when the ghost doesn't realize they are dead and don't understand why no one pays them any attention - they tap you to try and make you notice. The house I lived in at the time was build on land that was a auto junk yard at one time - someone who was killed in a auto accident perhaps???? unsure.gif

There is an old hospital near my house that people claim is haunted - they call it a antebellum mental asylum but is not. First, it's not old enough to be called anti-antebellum and also it was not a mental asylum in the sense that they mean it. When the hospital was being closed due to the country building a larger more modern complex it was closed section by section. And the last two or three years it was opened the only patients housed there were mental patients. But most of the 80 years it was opened it was a fully functional country hospital. It has been fully closed for about 15 years now - all that is left in it is some old furniture in the offices. But my daughters boyfriends claims to have been in it since it closed and had strange things happen - such as drawers to filing cabinets flying open, the sound of footsteps behind him and a office chair rolling down the hall. He swears it is true.

Way cool ccofer! I am trying to talk my hubby into going to one of the hunts that they have there, but I am spazing now about it and he is laughing at me, saying that if I am spazing now, how could I go on one of the hunts?

I should get a hold of them and see if they want to hunt my place....someone told me that there are children upstairs here in my house and they had visions of someone hanging themselves in my barn. That and sometimes I can't go out at night, I feel something in the woods behind my house and its really evil! I am wondering if my house is one of the farms they talk about that bought children for labor....it was built in 1823 and was a big farm.

I know what you mean about the hunts - I would love to go on one. But I'm a little scared I have to admit. There is a Georgia ghost hunt team that means just a few miles from my house - I post on their web site forum a lot - but I have never gone to a meeting or a hunt. Maybe one day I will get the nerve. rolleyes.gif

There is a beautiful pre antebellum house near Madison Ga. About an hours drive from my house. My daughter and I go to Madison a lot during summer and fall - it's full if antique shops with I love an a huge historic district which I also love - I love old houses. But this one house that my daughter loves it's an old antebellum plantation house - from what I have been able to find out about the house it was built around 1830 and it is still owned by the original family. There were people still living in it until about 8 years ago. Now it is empty. My daughter and I have gone in it - yeah I know trespassing is bad. sad.gif But we couldn't help ourselves - it's in really good shape - it looks like someone put in a new floor. Anyway, one day last summer my daughter took a lot of pictures in the house with her new digital camera. We we got home and looked at them we were shocked at all the faces and orbs that showed up on the pictures. There is even a shape in one of the pictures that looks like a little girl standing in the middle of the room. There is no furniture left in this house and nothing that would cast a shadow like that. It' really freaked us out! unsure.gif Well a ghost hunting friend of mine told me that I needed to go back and take pictures with a regular camera - he said they were better for ghost hunting than digital (I don't know why) So a few days later I drove back down to the house by myself. I went around to the back and climbed in the back door like we always do (the steps are missing and you have to climb). I felt a chill when I got in - but I thought 'I am going to be brave!'. Well I took pictures in every room downstairs and that was okay because there are so many door downstairs that you are only a few feet from one anywhere downstairs. But when I got ready to go upstairs was different because there is only one way up and back down. I was fine until I got to the largest bedroom and just as I started to take the picture I heard a big kur-plunk-plunk-plunk blink.gif ohmy.gif !!! like something was falling down the stairs!!!!!! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif I have never come down a staircase so fast in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't stop until I got to my car!! I'm such a wuss. tongue.gif

My best firiend couldn't help but ask me "what if you had got to the stairs and saw something coming up? I said well the window on the midway landing isn't that high off the ground - I think I could have survived a jump!!!! tongue.gif

I am near the Miami County State hospital in Osawatomie, Kansas. Many of the original buildings are still standing, and you can feel that much has happened on the grounds there. Suicides, murder, rape, torture, kidnappings... i mean you can see things happening when you look at the building. I 'zoned' off for about 15 minutes while on the grounds and let me tell you, I saw some pretty horrid things... not uncommon in a place that has been used as a mental institution most of it's history.

nope, nada... i am wondering if it's because it's still a working mental institution and they maybe aren't letting investigators in.....

or perhaps... it's simply a matter of local knowledge, though I did find mention of both of the ghosts in the Paola High School (the old building), which is interesting, since the ghosts in the mental hospital are much more prominent.

Yep you take rt 63 to Bethany Center Road and its about 7 miles down. If you know where the Genesee County park is, it's right at the corner of the road to it, it sits by itself next to the county park.

You are like me, I love to go in old houses and old buildings. But sometimes a place will just give me the creeps and I get chills up my spine and feel as if I'm being watched unsure.gif Often I will find out later that the place has a reputation for being haunted. blink.gif I am a firm believer in ghosts. unsure.gif
butterscotch2002crf
its spooky to go in a place, feel that feeling, then find out later on that it has the reputation. that makes you a believer that something is out there.
i went to a party and was sitting on the couch, everyone got up to go get food in the other room, i felt something over my head..i asked the hostess what was upstairs, she said, a room where there is a ghost. shiverrrrrrr
