Hey there,

I have been considering selling some stuff on ebay, and I was just wondering how most of your cusomters prefer to pay? I would accept PayPal no matter what, but I'm wondering if I should use a Personal or Premier/Business Account. If most of the customers like to pay on PayPal using their credit cards, then I would need a Premier account, and they charge transaction fees for this kind of account sad.gif If most of them pay on PayPal with an instant transfer, then I'll be fine with a personal account.

What do you think I should do?

Thanks
jiml
If you are going to just sell "some" stuff, the basic free account would probably be fine. You can specify in your auctions you accept paypal only and no credit/debit card payments. Of course, this may reduce the amount of bids you get, but probably not much. You can always specify you accept check and money orders also, which of course have nothing to do with paypal.

I'd say a Premier paypal account would be necessary if you are selling some high dollar stuff, because some people may not have that kind of cash in the bank/paypal. Or if you plan to be selling A LOT on ebay, then a premier account might be good so you can accept credit cards and get the most bids on all your stuff.

Anyway, just my opinions, hope it helps.

Business account if you plan to sell a number of items or a few at a higher value. If you don't want to pay the fee, just take cash, checks and money orders.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah the final bid on the stuff I want to sell would probably be around $3-10. I think I'm going to just got with a personal account, and hopefully they can pay me via instant transfer. Uhh... I have two more questions, might as well ask here:

1. It says on the fees table on eBay that there is an insertion fee. I was just wondering how you would pay this fee? Is it possible to pay it with PayPal?

2. I would be starting a compeletely new ebay account to sell the items, so I would have a 0% feedback rating. Will people still bid?

Thanks

I agree, from the sounds of it a personal account should be fine. The answers to your questions:

1. Yes, it is easiest to pay it with paypal. You'll find ebay relatively easy to use and somewhat addictive.

2. Yes. We all have to start somewhere.

Good luck!

Hahaha, thanks a lot jiml. Ebay is addictive eh? Darn, I have another question regarding the inserstion fee. Would the money automatically be deducted from your PayPal account, or would ebay request the money and then you have to maunally send the payment?

Thanks

Not sure about PayPal but I pay my fees for Ebay each month via credit card
automatically. I imagine it would be the same.

Ebay basically has a page where you can go and view your ebay fees. From there you can pay via your paypal account (links right to ebay), or you can pay it via other methods like dmc123 said.

Hey everyone,

I've found two complications... First off, I am from Canada, and apparently, ebay doesn't allow you to pay the insertion/final value fees with PayPal on the .ca site yet. They say it might be added in the future, but for now, it's not an option. This makes it hard because I am not old enough to get a credit card yet. I was just going to create an account and ask my mom if I could use her credit card in the sign up process and then use PayPal to pay all of my fees. If I have to use a credit card to pay the fees, I'm not sure she'll let me... what should I do lol?

Secondly... I'm from Canada. The majority of the people I am trying to sell to are in the United States. I know that if I say the item is available to be shipped to the United States, it will come up on the .com and .ca sites, but I'm not sure they would want to bid on a Canadian auction. (The item I am trying to sell is completely online, and doens't require and physical shipping, so that might help out a little) Do you think I will still get bidders if I am from Canada?

Thanks

If it is an online product, with no shipping required, is it something you could make available to all, regardless of location? That would open up your market a little. Personally, when I'm looking on Ebay, if there are no shipping charges involved I don't worry too much about where the auction started...

Yeah, I could make it available worldwide. Do you think I will get bidders?
MamaOf3
That would depend on the product & price. You could try PTBid to start with, if they have a category for it. I think you have to use Paypal to make a deposit first, to cover fees, but they only charge you a fee if the product sells. (Unless they've changed the terms, that is...)

Also, on Ebay, the fee is minimal if the item doesn't sell, $.30 I think. It won't cost too much to give it a try.

Good luck!

Okay, thanks smile.gif. I'm not very interested in trying other online auction sites, just because I know ebay is reliable and safe. I think I'm going to go ahead and try it. The item I want to sell is credits on a traffic exchange site. I have been wathcing some auctions, and they do sell, so I thought I'd give it a try. I just don't know what to do about getting an account. Think I should just get my mom to sign up an account for me with her credit card, and I'll pay her whatever gets charged to it? Oh, and, what is your opinion about some of the stuff asked earlier in this thread? Would you bid on an auction if the seller has a 0% feedback rating (because it's his first auction)?

Thanks

Pay-As-You-Go: This option allows you to pay your monthly invoice by PayPal, cheque or money order, or a one-time credit card payment. Without pre-authorized debit or a credit/debit card on file for automatic monthly billing, you will be prevented from listing additional items if you reach the trading limit.

If you choose to prepay eBay with a cheque or money order, just be sure to include an eBay payment coupon to ensure that your payment is accurately applied to your account. Your payment will normally be posted to your eBay account within 7 to 10 business days. Please do not send cash payments to eBay.
