Aww come on ...

Boxers are fun-loving, hyper, caring, sweet, fun ... fun ... fun ... protective, cuddly, clowns ...

laugh.gif laugh.gif

Actually I love almost all dogs ... I'm not too fond of the smaller breeds though, except Pomeranians. ph34r.gif

Edited to add I've had 7 Boxers, 2 Rottweilers, and 2 Pomeranians.

Nope Labradors.

They're also fun loving hyper dogs, very lovable, very loyal, very enthusiastic, but mine were also great walkers, we'd do 10-12 miles a day and they would also 'point' when they were on the scent of something then go off hunting.

Wonderful swimmers too biggrin.gif

I like Labs too ... but I don't think I'd own one.

They're too common and everybody has em. laugh.gif

Including MANY blind people as they are one of the most docile friendly breeds throughout the world.

Don't see many Boxers or Rotties doing that thankless task wink.gif

Have to say, I'm a little partial to basset hounds, although bloodhounds are cool too.

I don't know of any Boxers, but I do know of two Rotties that are guide dogs. If they're not too dominant, their intelligence makes them perfect for the task.

The Dutch guide-dog training institute is now mostly working with cross breeds of Labs, Germans Shepards, Goldens, Rotties and Standard Poodles. Purebred Labs and Goldens have a lot of problems with hipdysplasia and for that reason they can't work long before they must retire.

Oh YEAH!!!!! I love English bassets and bloodhounds( or Saint Huberts hound as the Belgians call them). I'm fond of dogs with a "sense of humour". Bassets are the clowns of the canine world. But also my own dog's breed (Coton de Tulear) are a breed apart when it comes to acting the clown. In a very different way than bassets though (Sorry, dang ImageShack is still down, no pic to show)

A lot depends on how you look after them.

Most bone problems in dogs are because they are exercised too young, or given too much calcium which makes the bones grow too fast and become brittle.

Adult labs need plenty of exercise and a simple pill each day can keep those hip problems at bay for years. All it takes is one cod liver oil capsule.

True, good care will make an enormous difference. Still, there is a hereditary component to ED/HD. And if you exercise a Lab or a Golden the way they where bred for (hunting, retrieving) I reckon you wouldn't have many problems at all (with the proper food etc.) But guide dogs and dogs for the disabled frequently have to make movements that are unnatural to them, like walking slower than they would normally do or standing on their hind legs a lot to open doors.

Probably not. laugh.gif

I know they do some police work though, along with Sheperds.

Labs are a great breed, they do a lot for a lot of people and I think that's awesome. biggrin.gif
