Rather than someone signing you up - could it simply be a "direct mailing" ?
ILostMyTrueLove
Jan 9 2003, 09:46 AM
whats a direct mailing?
i dont visit adult sites. i have better things to do with my life lol
Well I keep getting passwords and member info's from these sites quite regulary and I have never visited them so I think it's just ordinary spam they send, checking member listings and stuff and sending it to who ever they find at the moment

I'm not sure but I guess the same way as other people who send spam to our mailboxes, member directories, boards etc.

I think that might be a direct mailing. I've gotten tons of those and I don't go on any adult sites either. They just send you a password so they can try and get you to join up with them to view their porn pics. Since there are so many places out there nowadays that collect your info and then sell it to other places without your permition it's real easy for a place like that to get your email address.

I'dthink it was just the random SPAM... but it had her with a username of ilostmytruelove, so I think someone actually signed her up

I doubt really hard that anyone would go through all the trouble and sign me up for 10 new programs per day since I get those mails with my name on them too....if someone goes through all that trouble I'm kind of flattered in a way even though I'm not going to use those passwords!
It is annoying but to think that it's not random.....phew someone really has a LOT of spare time

My 6 year old gets dozens of these types of messages every week. Her email is on my private domain server, never used for ANYTHING and still the spammers have gotten it many, many times. There are always ways.

I actually am starting to believe that.. I don't visit adult sites either yet I find myself signed up to all sorts of things.. and I tell you some of them are truely sick!!!
unfortunately if you click the unsubscribe button they send you more (it just tells them that your email address is valid grrr)

then its possible that this person is getting paid "per signup"
these days affiliate programs for adult sites pay pretty good (I know someone in the industry I'm not into it!!)
Depending on the quality of the site they may have a spam policy/link where they can tell you the IP of the person who signed you up...
Don't hold your breathe with an adult though

well since i didnt click the link to update my user information, i'm guessing i disappear from their site because they only have a user id of ilostmytruelove and thats it.
and if it happens again, i'll report this person to someone. to whom, i have no idea.

Blocking doesn't work- they fake the "from" field.
As for how they get email addresses, they use special software that crawls the 'net and harvests email addresses; they can even get it from an email that's in transit.
When I get porn, I report it to SpamCop:http://spamcop.net

Another thing as well. I think people have to have a certain amount of posts before posting in the advertising folder.
