I just needed to vent here about "install on demand" popups.

I read an email from a member of unsustainable emails that had one of these mess up her pc.

OK, she probably did not Disable install on demand in her internet options, but still, these are annoying!!

Sometimes I am trying to read an email and THREE of them popup!!!

How in the xxxx can I read the email when something is trying to install itself without my permission? Even though I disabled this, it still requires me to push 2 buttons on my pc to get rid of it, taking away the time from the email I was supposed to be reading.

If anyone knows where these install on demands come from,
I for one would like to know!!! Then it would be great to tell them to stop already!!

I am NEVER Going to install whatever!!!!!

I know what you mean I use a program that tracks how many popus it kills, let's just say that my average ammount is around 2000 popus, I recommend the use of popup killers, there's is one I currently use that kills everything it's KillAd just search for it in the web, just turn terminator mode ON, and it simply kills everything, even any windows you try to open biggrin.gif. I don't know if this helps you in any way, maybe it can help other people that see this thread.

I agree with you totally. I think they are supposed to entice us to do buy, join,or do whatever they are advertising. But personally I find it repulsive and disgusting. If I want to see the ad I haveLOTS of opportunities to SEARCH. I don't appreciate having them slammed at me and besides most carry maliscious trojans or downloads that can harm our computers. So to whomever is responsible for the pop-ups I can say they don't work if you expect us to buy your products, actually it turns us off your product. That's like if I walk into a shopping mall I don't want someone to pop up every few minutes and force a cute little outfit in my face thinking I will surely buy it before I leave. I wouldnot buy it even if I liked it because of your forceful presentation of the item So maybe you should re-think the old advertising gimmicdk and come up with something a little saferand more appealing to your audiences.

Killad is definately lovely, it gets anything that Avant doesn't (which is rare) but killing my windows I open and IM windows is annoying for sure!

THANK you!! smile.gif

Mine are in a slightly different place, but still under the Advanced tab. Really narrowed down where I needed to look! smile.gif

I use IE 6.0.2.

Under the Advanced tab, mine were located under the "Browsing" category. This is what I had there:

Enable Install On Demand [Internet Explorer]
Enable Install On Demand [Other]

Both are by default enabled I guess? I know I didn't change anything there.

What I'm afraid of is if I uncheck those boxes, will it install whatever is trying to install without my permission?

Does anyone know what happens when the boxes are unchecked?

Thanks!

Hi. I don't know if this will help or not, but my two boxes have been unchecked since getting my new computer. I was wondering what would happen if I checked those two. lol Anyway since mine are unchecked, I get a grey box that pops up and asks me if I want to install or not. I always choose not to install. What do you get since both of your boxes are checked?? Thanks.

If I'm thinking about the correct thing I get those pop-up green boxes that ask me if I want to install whatever the product is. The top bar of the box says "Security Warning". There's a link for the company website, then a paragraph about the content being safe. Then a box that you can check for "Always trust content from" whatever company it is.

I'm sort of starting to wonder if this is what the OP "Install on Demand" was talking about or of it's something else. wink.gif

Not good - excellent!!
But Mozilla suite has lots integrated in one package - browser, mail client,
HTML composer and chat.

Most people don't have the need for all of it in one place, so I'd recommend
Mozilla Firefox as a browser, and (Mozilla) Thunderbird for a mail client.
Firefox is the safest browser you can get - I've had a lot of problems with pop*s
adware, viruses and trojans while using IE, it's just outdated - then a friend
recommended mozilla.org and it was a revelation! I'm such a huge fan that
I include it in all of my signatures! (check it out down there wub.gif )

Did I mention it's FREE?!! And safe is definetly NOT EVERYTHING you get!
