I just received a cheque (check, if you American or Canadian) from Adhearus. However i'm concerned that the bank will take a large chunk of it as commision since it's in US dollars as opposed to Pounds Sterling, thus leaving me with a pitiful amount tongue.gif

Has anyone received payment from Google Adsense or Adhearus and how have you gone about retaining the payment without having a huge commision slice taken out - what are the best places or means to cash it or make a deposit?

Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

I think that it depends on the bank.

My bank doesn't charge, but some do, so my advice would be to phone your bank (which is what I did) or even pop into your local branch to ask smile.gif

Hi there.

While I have not recieved a payment from either company I have found it?s best to shop around the banks.

I live in Spain and recieve payments from both US and UK in cheques and in personal experiance I have had to open 2 account?s here dependin on the echange rate to euros.
I also recieve monies from a property that we have rented out in the UK, my old house, and this does tend to differ between 30 - 80 UKsterling to euros.

Hope this gives you a idea.

Regards

Joe

Thanks to both of you for your timely responses., much appreciated smile.gif

I'm actually a client of Natwest Joe and have a sneaky suspicion that they will charge as they do so for even the smallest of services rendered! Not that i've had any bad experiences with them but i am well aware of their leeching qualities

thanks again

Xena - just wondered. We are getting fed up with Lloyds - seen more like Harrold Lloyd in the old B&W films - always running around with no idea laugh.gif

Natwest is part of the royal bank of scotland chain.

The best thing to do is sit down with a phone and a phone book and actually ring some banks and ask them what they charge.

Once you have found the best one, open an account with them if you don't have one already, and deposit your cheque smile.gif

Easy (ish)

Thanks everyody for all your help, it really is appreciated, i'll start my investigations tommorow via phone and email. I just thought i'd ask in the forum since it seems likely that i am not the first, nor will i be the first to want to deposit a cheque in dollars without being ripped off....there's nothing like the advice of the experienced smile.gif

Thanks again!

Barclays Bank also charge's, but I dont think it is a fixed amount they take I put in $20 and got back about ?9 but that was a while back, and they never used to charge when i first started to put in cheques in $$, but then they changed it.

Best to Ask around

Hi,

The banks in Canada offer US dollar accounts. You can recieve and pay out
to US companies in their dollars. You pay a normal bank fee but don't get hit with exchange rates. Check out UK banks to see if they have the same type of accounts.

How much is your cheque for? if its less than $30 its really not worth it. You would be losing money just to gain a couple of quid.

If you have freinds in the USA perhaps you could have the check/cheque sent there in there name and they send you or paypal you the money less any costs to them i have done this before now. Some sites perfer to do that it might not hurt to email them and ask them if they would do that for you.

If your cheque is for just a small amount . . . I can tell you you are about to lost most of it in bank charges.

Can't you get payment paid direct to your credit card . . . or into a Paypal account.

I have been trying to get a non-resident US bank cheque account . . . but no luck up to now.

I get payments from sales on eBay . . . via Paypal and that's great.

Checks . . . no thank you

This problem seems to be constant . . . here in England.

I pay my ACOP AMEX gift cheques in at Halifax and don't pay charges, and when I pay in regular US $ cheques I don't pay charges on them either, but they can take up to 28 days to clear.
