i am not affiliated with the site in anyway. I read thier press release this morning and thought I would see if it was real.
No credit card or payment info was needed - and I now own 25 .info domain names.
They claim on thier press release this is s promotion to pull in new clients.
Worked for me. 25 free domain names was kinda kool. (even if they were .info - not my favorite extention ..)
So I thought I would pass it on to other developers.
You dont have to host with them or anything. I found no strings attached except for they give you the option to buy other services.
Oh yea the regestrations are for 1 year - and the current price for renewal is $7.77.
I hope this dont sound like an addvertisement... becouse I would rather you visit my site LOL but i wanted to share this. Offer ends sept. 9th.

Yea I took this offer up with domainsite.com, seems pretty cool so far. Their renewal rate is decent $7.77 hopefully they don't up them just before the year is up. If they do, I suppose you could transfer the names out to someplace else.

Just go ahead and register a .info and your balance will show as $0.00, you can register up to 25 names.

Huh? How is it a password collector? What password can they collect outside of the one you sign up to their site with? I registered 25 of them, and 2 of which I've already pointed to a server using A Records. They are already showing in whois with my information.
They are an ICANN accredited registar

It is not a password collector for sure.
Domainsite was down and up for two days because they didn't expect to get such a huge traffic from offering free domains.
I checked the webhostingtalk forum and it's confirmed. Their rating was suddenly rised at Alexa.
I suppose now is back to normal as I just registered 3 more domains

You can build easily and free at geocities using thier pagebuilder tools. then forward your DS domain (www.xxx.info) to that Geocities address through domain forwarding control. That's what I did.. just pm me if you need help. I am not an expert though..

I'm not very impressed so far.
I got one which I want to use as a nameserver. At godaddy.com I just go into my account there and set up nameservers in my account, it takes a minute or so.
So, I registered my new free domain at DomainSite, and when I went looking for how to set up the nameservers, I wound up with this message:
QUOTE
4. How do I register a name server?

5. How long will my change take?
Any DNS change you make to your domain account will take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours to propagate throughout the Internet.
For those who don't know how nameservers work, each server needs minimum 2 of them. You can use one domain to make the nameservers for several servers, then you have to start with a new domain, because one domain is only allowed for X number of nameservers.
Thus, you use one domain to make nameservers like so:
ns1.domain.com
ns2.domain.com
ns3.domain.com
ns4.domain.com
etc.
But this place is going to make it hard to do nameservers, so I'll just stick with godaddy.

That would be 'Register a Name Server', enter the host name, click continue, enter the IP, click Add IP then click Register

the reason I wanted something in return is cos I am about to give birth in 2 weeks ( ! ) on my OHs birthday and I want to set up a family website as a present, because I am a bit incapacitated at the moment...
