i don't know if anyone else here is having the same problem as i am, but i just cannot get any good promotion for my site. i have a nomorehits account, but since it isn't target, only about 5% or so of the people who see the site actually get interested and browse a little. i'm working on search engines too, but that is a big pain in the ###### unless you can dish money out to get perferred search engine listing.

I agree that online promotion is not easy nowadays. But search engine is still the best option.

In order to rank high in search engine, fiddling the keyword in the meta tag is useful but will not work without link popularity.

You need to get your site into the 3 big directory: Yahoo.com, dmoz.org and looksmart.com (or zeal.com). Getting into Yahoo is immpossible without paying $199. But you can try to submit your site to dmoz.org or zeal.com. However, your site need to have some quality before you can get listed.

Finally, find some sites to exchange link with you to increase link popularity.

Have you tried ineedhits.com? It says that they're professional staff will optimize your site so it will get better placement in popular search engines. They submit into 300+ search engines. Maybe it is a scam, for 2.50. It's worth a try.

Just wanted to drop my 2 cents in on the converstaion
this is what i have learned in haveing a site. I average quite a bit of hits a day between 200-500 but i have NEVER had a banner exchange or link4u type of product help me alot. I have seen an increase of a few visitors plus link exchanges and banners/pop ups are annoying and when I ran them at first my stats decreased by about 60% that means b4 the page loaded they were gone. Lgwong is right it is all about the search engines but it takes time and work and those submition sites suck as well have never been listed with any of those you can email me and I will try and tell you some things I have used not enough space here. I dont know if i can pimp this here but i started a yahoo group for pay to sites and sutff its called http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GettingPaidOnline/ if i cant post this again please tell me and i wont again thanks all
