You know. I thought it would be simple to get a site listed in at least one search engine. I've found that it's hard to get listed at all! Yahoo, is making commericial sites pay to be submited?! What kind of sh*t is that.

And this link popularity stuff. How many links to your site do you need before it'll make an impact?

It seems like you need to buy your way into search engines. I have submitted to all the major ones, and some minor search engines at least once with no search engine traffic to my site at all.

How does one go about getting listed in a search engine? Better meta-tags? Insane Link popularity? I would just like to get listed.
I'm not looking for a high-ranking. Any Ideas folks?

Getting listed is not difficult at all. Post your url to Altavista, Google and Hotbot(inktomi). They will list your site. Try Lycos and Excite as well, I think you will also get listed. You may need to wait 1-6 weeks before your site appeared in the search engine.

But get listed without high ranking is totally useless. So try to get a better rank. Try to learn more about this stuff at http://searchengineforums.com/bin/Ultimate.cgi

I resubmited to you site cybernovai. This time your link was on my front page

I also checked out that site searchengineforums. I got some traffic just by putting my homepage in my profile.

Maybe I should just post to their forums to increase my traffic heh. I got about 40 unique hits from them. Just by posting 3 topics. Although I doubt they're willing to sign up for the get-paid programs my site offers it's still nice to get more hits to my site.

Do you know of any directories or a large collection of places wanting to exchange links?

There is a site know as http://www.linkstoyou.com , you could have a try. I use to be a member, but I have quited. Some searchengines seems to ban sites which has joined linkstoyou.com .
Equilizer
Yes I was reading about this banning because of having links on your site to these types of pages.

They say that you get banned, but I have seen sites in the 10 on google that have these types of links.

How do you know if you're banned?

I would rather exchange links with other people than risk being banned from search engines because of linkstoyou.
