I know, I'd probably be better off with another browser.
But I've still got IE like 95+% of people.
It doesn't work right now.
I can only open 1 window - any others just stay blank.
(For example if I click on "my assistant" here I just get a little see-through frame, no content. And the icon looks light-blue instead of dark blue.)
I can't even run Windows Update.
I did run a virus scan and anti-spyware progs.
(but they didn't find anything)
Earlier (yesterday or the day before that), it also acted strange:
if I tried to open more than say 3-5 windows, it would just do NOTHING (normally it would either open the window or give an 'out of memory' error if I tried to open too many windows on my old computer; but it never did nothing before).

The only strange thing I found was a new running process:
spool32.exe
It's a normal Windows Application:

Process Name: Printer Spooler Description: Application that handles the spooling of print jobs transparently. It works only when the user configures the printer to spool print jobs. Company: Microsoft Corp. System Process: Yes Security Risk ( Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): No |
..but I don't have a printer here.

If I try to do a simple thing like Find (CTRL + F), Explorer crashes..
I can't read emails like this.
I can't run Panda ActiveScan like this.
I can't do pretty much anything like this.

I'm at my other computer now.
But this one is even slower.

And for example I can't edit posts here. Or use those clickable smilies.
Or play wav files or mp3s (anything that costs too much resources makes this pc reboot automatically ever since we changed the SIMMs).
Or access hotmail.

It seems a bit similar to this:
http://www.getpaidforum.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=197564but not quite.. (I don't even get a bottom bar or progress bar, I don't think there's anything wrong with my internet connection.)

I tried the self-repair function (config/software/add-remove/IE/repair),
but it still doesn't work.
I think I'll install Firefox.
It looks like they made it very easy for Windows & IE users now:

About Your IE Settings
Firefox imports your existing settings from Internet Explorer. An import wizard will run when you first install Firefox (and is also available later through the File menu, File > Import), and it imports your Favorites, Internet Options, cookies, stored passwords, and a variety of other data. This saves you time customizing Firefox to fit your needs. Browser Plug-ins, Add-ons, and Toolbars Many of the plug-ins, add-ons, and toolbars that you may have installed for Internet Explorer are also available for Mozilla Firefox, including:
* Macromedia Flash Player, Apple QuickTime, Real Networks RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and Sun Microsystems Java Plug-in * Google Toolbar
There are also over 50 extensions that are available for Mozilla Firefox to extend the functionality of Firefox even more. |
So far it seems to work ok,
but it is very slow in opening (loading) pages, it freezes for a few seconds every time..
But that's probably because I have an old computer.

I do have Linux too on my other computer, and a Mozilla browser;
I think that still works.
But I would like to fix the problem.
Some things only work with IE, but only if IE works LOL.

This ain't working..
Can I make Firefox faster by changing the settings?
It's actually quick, but a few times per MINUTE it freezes for a few seconds (my harddisk does something and I can't do a thing).
I tried lowering the cache (for websites) from 50,000kb to 500kb, but it still seems the same.
Also, if it DID remember my passwords, it didn't let me know them.

It seems Windows update doesn't support other browsers than IE (like Firefox).
I can see the updates with IE, but I can't install them because it doesn't work.
So I tried installing them manually with Firefox, and some worked, but some aren't even there..

I have a question.. when you do a control alt delete and look at the running processes does it show a bunch of "iexplore" running even if all the windows are shut down? If so chances are you may have the dumaru (spelling might be wrong) virus. You'll need to boot to safe mode and try and run your scanner from there

nop, I can see a light blue logo for every open window
And I used an online scanner, but I don't have an internet connection in safe mode.
I did use to have sometimes that I manually closed IE to unfreeze some windows (that were frozen due to popups), and after that the toolbar didn't work anymore, so open windows only showed with alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del.
But I think that's something else.

If I try to open the "Go" tab in Firefox, it crashes.
(What's in there, anyway?)

Oh, maybe that got hung up on my 500 days of imported history, LOL.
It seems to work better now.
But now I've got some new questions/problems:
Can I open emails from hotmail in a new tab or window with Firefox?
And PTCs that normally (i.e. in IE) open with the timer in a little separate window, don't credit now, because that window doesn't appear, only the advertised site.
