I need your help.

I have a question. Is Gptr and other type program consider is illegal activity in the library. Im really scare.

They could suspended my library priviladge.

I have to agree with something.
Pia
Would be a bit easier to determine that if we could see the library policy smile.gif
davidbugs
I don't have the policy right now?

It way too long to type the policy.
Pia
Since I'm not using library computers (in USA) then it's a tad bit impossible to say wether they treat GPTR illegal activity or not wink.gif

It should say on the policy tho....
davidbugs
What Im am only going to do?

If I can get do gptr anymore?? It is going to be bad news.

I would not be making anymore money.

I don't think Get paid Forum message board is illegal activity. All I do just type the message board.
brela101201
I don't think it would be illegal, david. Besides, you said yesterday people were looking at porn on there. Porn is ALOT worse then PTR wink.gif

I can't take any chance??

What If I use Get pay to search? I can get in trouble.

Since get pay to search could contain a adware and spyware?

Im worry about gptr can produce adware or spyware.
ncghosthunter
David,

I wouldn't worry. I used to do PTR programs all the time at the library here in NC without worries.

You are not doing anything that's considered illegal to begin with.

However, one thing to consider...in regards to new windows opening with each link you click in emails and PTC sections...I would try to limit how many programs/links you do each day so you don't overload their internet system.

That's the only thing I can truly think of them questioning you about.

Otherwise, keep clicking...seriously.

You dont want to get a older computer because you say they are worthless and you seem to be obssessing about this new library policy. We cant help you determine if you are doing anything wrong since we do not have the policiy to see smile.gif

And since you only make about $5 a month, is it worth stressing over? Get a job, something, ANYTHING, and get a computer (once again) something, ANYTHING, and away you go! rolleyes.gif

I wouldn't worry, if there is people browsig porn then PTR is legal as can be. Just don't ever do it, but doing a few progs it's ok.

This is the library Policy

Norfolk Public Library System

Computer and Internet Use Policy

The Norfolk Public Library (NPL) provides computing resources which allow public access to a variety of
networked electronic resources, including in-house databases, the Internet, U.S. government publications
in electronic format, and NPL-owned software such as word processing and publishing programs. NPL reserves
the right to set rules as needed to provide equitable computer use and to revise this policy in response to
changes in, or concerns about, NPL?s computing environment.

With passage of the Children?s Internet protection Act (CIPA), and a strong desire to provide safe and harmonious
computer and internet services to our clientele, we have implemented a new software package called Smart Access
Manager (SAM). This program will provide ease of printing and control of costs to our clientele while allowing NPL
to comply with CIPA laws.

USER RESPONSIBILITIES

Users are responsible for the following to ensure fair and proper use of library computing resources. If users fail
to comply, access to library computing resources may be suspended.

Conduct: Users must observe the Library Code of conduct as it specifically relates to use of Library computer resources.
Copyright: Users must observe copyright and communication laws.
Equipment: Users may not tamper with or reconfigure equipment, software, or data belonging to the Library or other users.
Prohibitions: Library employees and patrons MAY NOT use the library?s computer equipment for engaging in ANY illegal activity.
Downloading executable files to the hard drive is not permitted.
Privacy: Users must observe the right of others to privacy.
Software: Use of non-Library software is not permitted.
Sounds and visuals: users shall refrain from the use of sounds and visuals which disrupt the ability of other library patrons
or the staff to use the library and its resources.

INTERNET-SPECIFIC USER RESPONSIBILITIES

A global network of computers, the Internet provides access to a wide variety of educational, recreational, and reference resources,
many of which are not available in print. Because the Library can not control Internet content, the Library can not protect
persons from information found individually offensive. Due to the nature of the Internet, NPL staff may be limited in their
ability to provide assistance.

Children and the Internet: It is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to supervise the access and use of the Internet
by their children. Giving consent for a library card constitutes acknowledgement by the parent or guardian that they have responsibility
for monitoring their child?s use of all library resources. Library employees may casually monitor children?s Internet use to assist and guide them.

Evaluation: NPL can not ensure the availability or the accuracy of external electronic resources. Like print materials, not all electronic
materials provide accurate, complete, or current information. Users need to be good information consumers, questioning the validity of information.

CIPA Child Internet Protection Act Compliance

Because NPL receives federal funding for public Internet access, federal law requires NPL to install blocking software on NPL?s Internet terminals.
The purpose of this software is to protect minors from exposure to Internet sites that are deemed to be obscene, pornographic, or harmful to children.
Under Virginia state law, Library staff can unblock individual websites that have been erroneously blocked by the filter. In addition, library staff
will disable the entire filter for patrons 17 and over upon request. Filters on PCs in the Children?s room areas cannot be disabled.
In compliance with the Children?s Internet Protection Act, Internet access on all Norfolk Public Library computers is filtered for pornography.
In accordance with Library policy, Internet access on all public computers is also filtered for banner ads and web proxy servers and anonymizers.

ACCESS TO GOVERNMENT INFORMATION IN ELECTRONIC FORMATS

The Norfolk Public Library, a federal depository, provides one computer workstation dedicated solely to access Federal government websites, and to
use federal government tangible electronic products. This is accordance with the Federal Depository Library Program Internet Use
Policy Guidelines and the Depository Library Public Service Guidelines for Government Information in Electronic Formats. This
workstation is located at Kirn Memorial Library.

SANCTIONS

Libraries rely upon the cooperation of their users in order to efficiently and effectively provide shared resources and ensure
community access
to a wide range of information. If individuals violate policies in any way, their access to computer resources may be suspended
(See Library Code of Conduct). Individuals using library computing resources for illegal purposes may also be subject to prosecution.
RESERVATIONS

Reservations may be made up to twenty-four hours in advance either in person, by phone, or over the Internet. Patrons are responsible
for notifying the Library if they can not come at their reserved time.

TIME LIMITS

Patrons with their library cards are allotted a minimum time slot of 30 minutes per day maximum of 2 hours per day system-wide. Patrons
without library cards can register for a guest card which will allot them up to three 20 minute time slots per day system-wide. All work
MUST be completed in the time allowed. Any files left on the hard drive will be lost at the end of your session.

PRINTING

ONLY Library-provided paper may be used in the Library printers. The cost of printing is 10 cents per page with the first two (2) pages
being free. ALL printing must be prepaid. All printing accounts are allowed a maximum deposit of $20.00. Money CANNOT be refunded or
utilized for any other purpose.

* By Virginia State Law, Code of Virginia, 55-210.12, funds in accounts that have been inactive for a year will be transferred to the State
Treasury and CANNOT be reclaimed.

DISKS

Patrons MUST use their own preformatted disks to download files. The Library is NOT responsible for the disks or for the correct downloading of files.

Adopted by the NPL Board of Trustees ______________________

This is the Second Branch I went to today.

I probably will go to 4th branch today.

Since I have a limit 2 hours a day.

The first branch computer kick me out when it reach 30 minutes.
DGE1754
David dont you think you time would be better spent trying to find a job in the real world then to play around on the computer and make maybe $5 per month?

There are plenty of things you could do at least walk around and put in applications rather then walk all over using the computer for 2 hours here and there.
davidbugs
I will try to apply a job last year. I apply around 10-15 application. All of them reject me.

Im trying to get a job but it is not the right time right now.

I got 10 minutes left countdown.
Jordan
I bet he could make a bunch more on the net if he had a computer. I'm making a lot from my sites now, all he needs to do is come up with $100 for a computer, $50 for a content website and he could make a lot.
Starlite
I agree go out and look for a job rather than wasting your time making 20 bucks a month. Heck within a month or two you could have the money to buy a new computer. You are driving yourself crazy with this library stuff

I see a problem here. Unless I'm misreading this, you're allowed 2 hours total per day, regardless of how you bounce around to different locations. No more than 30 mins at one location, and two hours for all... sad.gif

Edit: Okay, so a minimum of 30 mins at one location...but that doesn't change the two hours maximum system-wide...
davidbugs
Anyways Im not going to go 4 different library location everyday.

Im not only use 2 hour per day. Sometime I might go to the library for 90 minutes for one day.

Im trying experience
collegeboy2178
Just my two cents...

I've been reading a few of these similar threads the past few days and I agree with the many posters who continually suggest that David should save up for his own computer or get a job to buy one.

Also, I agree with another poster when saying all of this sounds a bit over dramatic.
davidbugs
Wahoo Im back again. This is my second 30 minutes this branch. biggrin.gif

I don't I have to walk to another branch. Thanks God.

Thanks to the library employee to fix the problem.

Im so happy.
gotlucky
Yes it says minimum 30 mins max 2 hours
Jordan
So you can use 2 hours just at one branch?
davidbugs

No you can use one branch for one hour per day.

Another branch for another one hour.

I would agree with the others get a job somewhere and just but yourself a computer, you might be able to find a used computer that is still in good shape, heck it would bet having to go to the library everyday.
Mystical2000
David. Why are you so stubborn? Save up some money and get a CHEAP USED computer until you can afford to buy the one with the Dvd burner and other extras. At least with a used computer you wouldnt be limited time wise and you wouldnt have to worry about breaking any rules.

brela101201
I am most likely going to buy a new computer at the end of the year. If david does not have his own computer by then, I will GIVE him mine. (Well, provided, of course, that I buy a new one.)

Actually David could have free internet for at least a year.

AOL, MSN, Earth Link, People PC and several others offer free trials. When you call to cancel they will offer to extend your free trial in hopes that you will stay with them. I know I did it for a while. After you cancel most of them have a 6 month waiting period and you can do it all over again.

And ILM3G that was a very generous offer. Hopefully you will get a new computer and David will take you up on your offer. Who knows though he is holding out for that Dvd burner....tongue.gif
Starlite
Heck I have almost enough computer parts to build him one.. All I need is a motherboard.. I have an old P2 450 chip laying around wasting away, several vid cards, a case, new powersupply, ram tons of 56k modems etc.... I used to do all my PTRs on my 450 till I built a new rig in March.

I will be willing to donate too BUT (and maybe some wont agree but heck that wouldnt be the first time)

I think David should at least spend 1 week seriously trying to find a job. Putting in applications etc. Things arent given to people for free in this world and if you do give someone something free that hasnt even worked before what example are you setting. It doesnt teach good work ethic which is a much needed skill later in life wink.gif

I agree you should get a real job, it does not mean you can't still do PTR. Work an evening shift so you can go to the library(ies) in the morning. If you work full time for a month or two you will have enough for a decent computer. At Best Buy and Circuit City I see some for $400-600. You can always upgrade later. Skip the printer and other stuff-get them when you can afford to!

You would be able to afford internet access, try the free samples first, find the one you like, most aren't more than $20-30 bucks a month. If you get & keep your job (when school starts backup-work partime), there is no reason you can't afford to pay fot the internet connection.

Are you still living at home with your parents? I'll bet they would be impressed if you offered to pay half for installing a second phone line, or getting DSL, or cable.

Think you could work all night on PTR!

When did I start sounding like my Mother? ::shudder:: dry.gif
dizzygal69
Ok, David, this is beginning to get ridiculous.

If you applied yourself, you could easily get a part time job, save up some money, then go buy a cheap used computer at the salvation army shop or a local used computer store. I've seen them as cheap as $50. Then save up a little more money and have enough for internet access. I know you can get peoplepc for only $10.00 per month. I have msn for only $21.95 a month (dialup).

If you refuse to get a part time job/can't find one, then go get yourself an early morning paper route. Or go cut lawns or do yardwork. Or babysit, or dog sit, or walk dogs. Pick up aluminum cans along your walks each day and sell them at a recycle center. There are tons of ways to make a little money each and every day, and then you'd be able to get what you want - a computer and internet service.

Davidbugs, I've seen a computer that is sub $400 and it has a DVD/CD burner, 512 megs of Ram, 60 gig hardrive, and a 2 ghz pentium (4?).

Thats better then my current one which I paid $800 for. (Be it that was 2 years ago)

Yes I am sure its hard. I was lucky my father knew a produce farmer and I got the job even though I am sure it wasnt all that legal wink.gif Got paid very very little for a days work but I didnt mind gave me $$. I also had a paper route etc.
Even when I was out of work living in Maine I picked up cans, I went to peoples houses seeing about yard work. I picked Fiddleheads and sold them on the side of the road. There is always some way of making a little $$. I admit it depends on where you live...what type of setting if you can do something to make $$. But it seemed to me I always found something...just depends also what you are willing to do. Some jobs can be really crappy and tough work for not much $$.

Now my first job ever(of legal age to be working) I was paid 2.15/hr at a Nike factory...yikes that was a tough job. Got that when I was 16 and quit high school (not something I recommend)

David, how old are you?

Why do you keep saying you can't get a job?

This whole library thing is getting way out of hand. I mean ... really.

If you're that desperate to have a computer and be able to do PTR's it seems like you'd do whatever you had to do to get what you want.

Find a job ... ANYTHING and save up a little money and get YOUR OWN computer. Then, you'll be able to do anything you want with it/on it/etc etc.

They are immature ostrich ferns. You eat them smile.gif

As the fern start to pop up out the ground they are all curled up and look like the "head" of a fiddle the scrolling ya know what I mean?

They are found along river banks and boggy areas. They only can be harvested for a week maybe two early in the spring...during blackfly season...eeeww..lol

I used to take a potato sack and trudge miles into the woods fill it up come out and sell them for $1 per pound on the side of the road
