Just wondering how you make a banner for your site?
do you need to actually create the banner picture or do you need to know how to make it clickable in your signature?
I need to know how to generate a banner. 
there are many websites that you can use to make free banners.
here is one good one

once you make it you will need to download it to your computer and upload it to a host. if you don't have web hosting you can use try http://www.photobucket.com
it's free and you can host banners and other graphics there.
if you want more do a google search for free banners and you should find some more, but that site has a pretty good selection of banners you can make for free.

If you need a program to create your own banners I can recommend Ulead Gif Animator. It's shareware (free to try).

u can also try Adobe photoshop. I find it very usefull and teh banners look great. Of course..u can add some flash (marcomedia) or even 3D figures (much more complicated 3DStudioMAX, Maya.. etc). But for starters just try adobe photoshop.. you can learn it easy..
Or paint, but it won't be animated 
I don't understand how to make them in paint or adobe (and I don't have adobe) also I would like them to be animated. I will try the other suggestions though. Any more?????

If you're creative enough and have the right tools like Animated GIF making softwares or even Macromedia Flash installed, you can do it yourself. Just start creating frames and at the end animate all of them sequentially.
The other & easy option is using online resources for your banners. For example Animation Online - the link that cinderella518 gave you i.e. Http://www.AnimationOnline.com/freebanners.html .
There are many other paid and high quality banner creation sites too. You can find them on google.
