HOW tacky is that? They stole alot of my HTML code from my SearchBotz. I know its mine for sure because I made a mistake when I first put the link in the top 20 searchs on the left side for domain registration. I put it as all one word no space between domain and registration and did the same for debt consolidation and of course they stole that and didnt even notice or try to fix it..LOL I fixed it later on my site but theirs is still the old code they stole from me..LOL I wrote to them and asked them to take it off..wel will see what happens.

Anyone that knows me well KNOWS I am very picky about HTML on all my sites and have alot of pet pieves when it comes to HTML and to have someone steal GEEZ..just ticks me off BIG time. I dont recall the exact saying but I know copying is suppose to be the best form of flattery...well let me tell ya I AINT flattered!

What a total rip! It does look almost exactly the same except for the colors!

I have to agree that stealing HTML is tacky. Not only with search engines, but in the paid to read world, also. I see so many sites that look the same, and a lot of the wording hasn't been changed, (ie. Terms)

Why can't all sites be original? If you thieve HTML, what does that say about the program? ac.gif

thats the design from smartscript people themselves along time ago they said we could design you your page for money to all the people that bought a script
and it turned out it was the same design on every site exept for colors and text
DGE1754
well the main html for the page with the layout etc is a common template that I am not concerned about...what bothers me is the alterations I made to that template.. I put the two boxes on either side of my banner rotator, I made up those links and keywords on the left side they werent there before it was javascript and the featured sponsors on the right I changed that was another javascript that slowed the site down. My beef is the things I personally changed to the template someone stole...thats my beef

ewwwwwww i just looked at the infinity-search page

Smartsearch doesnt come with any HTML you have to make up your own or get one of the templates that are floating around. Thats not the issue my issue is stealing what I altered myself thats my prob

wow thats not cool at all. am.gif

Well, Let me just say, as the OWNER of Infinity-Search. I DID NOT STEAL ANYTHING!

As a webmaster, Suzanne, instead of writing nasty, accusatory letters, Why dont you try ASKING first!!

I got the template from:
http://freesitetemplates.com/

First of ALL, and since I am not very familiar with HTML, you can ask just about anyone, I got help from people.

In addition your demands to removing stuff such as a table for sponsor, etc is just crazy. Thats basic HTML that Everyone uses.

I have re changed the look with another TEMPLATE from Jims World. As if you are this unproffessional as to call people a theif without even having a converstation or at least giving the person a chance to respond. I most certainly wouldnt want anyone even by accident to confuse the owners of these site.

I noticed in your post, you neglected to mention the nasty letter you wrote me and that fact that I responded and told you that I would change the look since it bothered you so much, IMMEDIATELY after getting your letter and that you have NOT written back, instead you decided to come to the forum and try to bash were it was not needed.

I hope you dont treat your members this way.

In any event. Suzanne should feel much better now that she let loose. I wish her the best of luck in her programs and hope that in the future she takes a moment before she jumps

well since is an open topic..... I might as well put my 2 cents in...........

I find it sad that people have to argue over something as little as this And webmasters for that fact. It's childish to come here and post something negative before working it out or trying to work it out at least. We are all here for the same reason to make money does anyone think that because 2 sites look somewhat similair it will matter to anyone??????? There are a few more search places that look like both of these sites Trusty search, seekstorm,Findbig and a few more. So I guess suzanne can accuse them also or where they around before her??????????? I know that Infinity has only been around for a 2 weeks and The Webmaster is a very reasonable person as I know Suzanne is. So why can't some things be worked out?? We are all adults here aren't we????
DGE1754
OK since I neglected to put in the email I sent you here it is and I wouldnt consider it nasty believe me. Yes you did respond but you also said I called you names which isnt true anyone can be the judge here is the email:

Hello
This is Suzanne owner of SearchBotz. I noticed you took alot of HTML code from MY site. All my HTML work is mine. I made SearchBotz..I changed the HTML to fit MY site. You really have NO right to take any of the HTML. I would advise you to change it ASAP because everything is copyrighted and you have violated that law. Take off the Top Keywords as you have it writen. Take off the table on the right side you have for sponsors take OFF the black boxes on the top on either side. You need to HIRE someone to do your HTML not steal it from someone else. Thats against the law and just tacky and lazy if you ask me. Change it ASAP because I will follow up on it believe me

Suzanne

And Your return mail to me:

With all due respect I didnt do it I asked someone to do the design for me, I have no clue how to do it. I had no idea it was copied and be more than happy to change it please give me a day to try and figure it out.
Sorry. However perhaps you should inquire before calling people names thats quite unprofessional, although I understand your upset
Dana

Dont see any place I called you names Dana. I had NO idea you owned the site and it wouldnt made a difference to me if you or the president of the USA owned it. I was POed and you even said in your return letter rightly so and yes you said you would change it within a day or so. Its over an done with but that fact is I complained in here because I had a legit complaint. Its a pet pieve of mine and I took offense. Its done over with etc. But my point was made even if you dont know HTML and someone does work on your site you as owner have to take the heat...I would if I owned it and pardon me but I didnt bash you personally I stated a fact my HTML code was stolen.

I said I took objection to what I had altered not the whole template everyone knows you can get them anyplace and if you dont design you own stuff and do you own HTML you wouldnt understand. Its your own work its your own thoughts and it shouldnt be stolen period...sorry I will never change my mind on that
Flanneljava
Like has been stated already, these sites come with basic templates. There is only so many ways you can write code. Dana is an host and reputable webmaster and would not steal anything. I just think its really sad everyone bashes each other all the time.

I know that Dana works really hard to make her programs the best they can be and do what she can for her members. She is just learning about html and all that.

These search engines all run the same way, so the words will be called the same way , there is only so much you can change, especially without experience, and still have them work. There are only so many ways to make tables and layouts.

Its different now, (no one else looks like Infinity-search now), so why dont we all just move on.
jefisch
In defense of Dana

She NEVER stole codes. I was with her through the entire development of the sites (all of her sites).

And with respect to stealing code...I think that you should probably think about paid2read and how similar the design is to dividendmails...not saying that anything was stolen because the templates are FREE to download and use for ANY site and ANY webmaster, but its just weird. AND about 1 week after advertisingbids.com launched ExitPaid Auctions just happened to appear...

Seems weird...don't you think?
DGE1754
Did you think I didnt notice that about DividendMails? I did BUt the difference is I knew that it was a free template and you didnt copy any of the alterations I made. As for your auctions site. HELLO I have had that auction script for at least a year I used to sell those auction websites on Ebay they are all alike. You guy just will never get it in this thread and not ONCE did I say Dana stole the code if you look carefully. I addressed the email to the ONLY contact I had for Infinity-Search (which I didnt know who owned). You cant plead ignorance when you hire or even ask someone to work for you and something happens you have to take responsiblity because you own it. Its over Dana and I we each have said our peace and she has changed the site. Its done so why keep adding to this thread. All of you need to read this thread more closely to notice I never accused Dana personally of stealing the code I wrote an email to support@Infinity-Search.com. So before saying I called her a thief you should read things more closely.

BTW YOU changed Paid2Read.com after I changed DividendMails to that template so dont make it sound like I changed after you did because that isnt the case....too bad you fail to mention how I offered some suggestions to you for improvements as far as HTML on Paid2Read before you changed over to that template.

Easy solution to HTML thieves...

http://www.atompark.com/products/tlp.htm

that's a SCAM. HTML pages CANNOT be "protected" simply because of the way the HTTP protocol is designed. What that product does is some client-side cr*p that will only work on some browsers which have javascript enabled. The "uncrackable protection" can be bypassed instantly...

I don't want to ruffle feathers or agree with either side but here's my two cents. HTML, by design, is meant to be shared by all. That's the way the original creaters of the internet set it up, so people could share ideas and help each other out. Sometimes a way a webmaster learns is to find a website they like, view the code, and base some of their site design off of what they've found. The code is always there for anyone to view when you design in html, it's always available for anyone to peek at, copy and use. It may not seem fair sometimes but that is the nature of the beast.

If your concerned about getting your code copied, maybe put some comment lines in to state that you'd like a link back to your site if the code is used - but again this doesn't stop anyone from finding a templated page out there that looks almost identical. I would be more concerned if someone stole an image, logo, etc that I created originally for the page.
DGE1754
nebrgirly I dont believe html, images or anything is "meant to be shared" thats why there are copyright laws and i am quite sure if someone "borrowed" Ebays html for their site Ebay wouldnt be happy if they knew. I look at it this way, if any of you write anything such as a novel or a poem etc and someone takes it and calls it their own that plagiarism. Its the same thing with HTML you "author" it its yours. You create it and in my book nobody has a right to take it. You're right anyone can look at code and its a great tool to learn but to copy the exact code including font and even errors isnt the way to learn. Thats not learning thats plain old cut and pasting. Most websites including all of mine have copyright right at the bottom doesnt that mean anything? I think it does. Plus in SearchBotz from the beginning I have had this in the meta tags:

<meta name="copyright" content="2002 SearchBotz.com. All rights reserved. Duplication of any content on this site is prohibited.">

So IF you view the source code you couldnt get by not seeing that unless you choose to ignore it.

I'm not saying that I disagree with you at all, it's just when it comes to html code the law can be kind of tricky. Here's a good article, although short, that kind of sums up the dilemma for a webmaster:

http://www.rpi.edu/dept/llc/webclass/web/p...up5/format.html

I agree any content that you place on a site is yours, and someone else would have to get permission from you in order to use it, but when it comes to formating issues on a site I think it's hard to determine when infringement occurs. Until some strict guidelines are in place regarding this issue, I'm sure it will continue to be a sore spot for many webmasters that design a site and then find sites that are similar to theirs.

I understand your frustration but I just can't take a hard line on this and say that it is total copyright infringement. (And I'm not saying that the other webmaster stole your code or didn't, that is between the two of you, I am just stating my opinion regarding copyright of html code?I wish you both much success and I hope you come to a peaceful and respectful agreement)
DGE1754
Good article...thanks for info...been reading alot about it lately and yes it is a tricky situation and yes we have worked it out thanks for asking aa.gif

There are dozens/hundreds of ppc search engines which look the same (all that is different is their dot.com name and background colours). You are all using the same scripts.
