It's $5.15 per hour for all the US. It's up to the state/county/business to make their own minimum wages, as long as its larger than $5.15. The larger one therefore applies.
There are two posters at where I work...well, where I used to work. The federal one which listed the minimum wage at $5.15 for the entire country. There was also a note that whatever minimum wage is listed for a specific state/jurisdiction/whatever applies over this one if its higher than $5.15. The other poster posted the minimum wage of California as $6.75.

Not one person in the US could live on $5.15 unless they were getting federal help (welfare, foodstamps etc).
The min wage has not gone up in years. How long? I can't remember.. maybe since '97. It's downright pitiful and embarassing to see such an awful wage for a country that is supposed to be one of the richest in the world.

Your right it is pitiful. 5.15 and hasn't changed since I started my business. Even though its that law, I start my employees out with 9.00 an hour, after 6 months I start their benefits, although one guy I let have his early so his wife can use the dental/medical coverage that she needs for their child they are going to have.
I think something should be done to increase that, people here on long island, especially with the price inflation on everything, need at least 2 jobs to cut it. No one should need more than 1 job around here, we all work to hard for not enough, then they go and raise taxes, mortgages. Its downright disgusting.

Thats awful to hear, I was so lucky to live in Australia and New zealand at the time I was. We have free tecnical training for thousands of trades and they pay you a weekly pay to go, austudy. We have free hospitals and doctors and cheap medicine. The average weekly wage is 50,000 but thats for teachers, police, and others, not everybody. They get 4 weeks annual paid leave and only have to work 35 hours a week and lots of other things. But there are some problems like not enough public hospital beds and a few other problems.

The US National MINIMUM wage is
$5.15 for untipped
$2.13 for tipped.
State's may raise the wage, but it cant be lowered. However the minimum is in this country is still what stands above. Many states have raised it slightly.... however most waitresses and bartenders still only make the $2.13. If they are dead and they serve hillbillies that only tip 10% sometimes they do not even make minimum. You would be surprised at the amount of people that dont even tip the standard 15% reguardless of service.
I only know of one restraunt that pays more than that for serving.. and they pay $2.15

You pay at least 42%. Minimum if youre not paying church taxes.
Then you also pay 95% to 800% taxes on everything you buy.
An example is a car. You pay 600% in taxes.
Cigarettes: 180% (last time I checked)
For a Liter of gasoline you pay $1.8, and that is still increasing. (so if a gallon is 3 liters we pay $5.5/gallon)

Yes... if youre a member of the church you have to pay church taxes.
They are about 1.6% right now.
If I buy a product I never get to see what I pay in taxes. You have to check our Tax department (or import department) to see what the current taxes are.
The products are always priced including tax. So we never know exactly.
Yes our government is very greedy.
One of the major points in the previous election(and will probably be at the upcoming) is lowering of taxes.
All health care is free. Unless its not needed (breast increase and such).
Hospitals are free. Doctor visits are free.
You get paid to go to school (SU : state education ?welfare?, statens uddannelsesunderst?ttelse)
We have a very wellestablished wellfare system. You cannot get in a position where you do not get an income at all.
Loose your house and job..... Our local government helps you out.
Drugaddict??.. They step in and help you.
Got a terminal disease only curable in another country... The state pays...
Get injuried while on a journey... state pays the hospital bills.
I can continue this, but I think you got the idea.
We have high salaries, but we also get taxed madly. Which in turn helps those that need it.

Buddah, 1 gallon is 3.8 liters so it's a bit more than $5.5 for you (not too far from what we pay here in Finland)
We pay a small ammount from our wages to the church too but it's optional, I decided to rather pay that 0.something % from my paycheck than to pay more than $2000 for a burial spot when I die
buddah785
May 23 2004, 04:08 PM
Taxes for the church are not that optional for us.
Either youre a member or youre not. And taxes does not include burial in any way.
You have to pay for a burial place, coffin and all other yourself (family that is) If you do not, the state has to pay, but then they take an equalent part of the diseased's belongings to pay for the burial.
Even when a family member dies you have to pay taxes. These taxes vary according to the amount you inherit.

Ok sounds about the same as over here, yes you pay taxes only when a member of the church, if you're not then you don't have to pay but we have the little perk if we belong to a church, then we don't have to pay for the buriel place (coffin and costs for the funeral still yes) and naturally taxes from the inherit....ugh lovely scandinavia....lol

I dont know the cost for a burial in denmark..
But I do know that its common that relatives pay the burial here.
No matter if they have a life insurance or not.
I dont know if its just me, but I havent heard anyone having a Lifeinsurance in denmark.... we on the other hand insure a lot of other things. Our houses, things, cars, kids, injury.
But most of these are already covered in the taxes as well... If I get injuried at work I will get duely compensated. Even if you didnt make your own insurance, you are already paying for a state insurance. And work insurance is covered in nearly all work laws.

Wow 800% tax
In the UK we have a tax called VAT (Vaule added tax) and that is at 17.5%. There is also road tax (and road tolls are now coming out) We also have to buy a Television licence at the cost of ?121 per year (you have to pay extra if you want cable).
However if you do not work
Public schooling is free, Doctors and denisits are free hospital treatment is free if you need glasses and wigs they are free. Also lol the goverment gives you a giro (a goverment check) about ?40 a week plus they pay your rent and taxes. If you get sick then you get more money plus a car and other things lol.
This is one reason we get a lot of people from other countries coming in for the freebies and easy life

they milk the United Kingdom.
We are also one of the most taxed in the World i think the goverment would tax us for the fresh air we breath.
I am never voting labour again lol.
Oh and i think we should withdraw from Europe and i pray we NEVER join the dam Euro, Europe also milk us.
