Hi..

how/where do I "limit" the countries in cash crusader script?? on the page where they signup....do I uncheck the countries I dont want...which would frankly be all of them except the us/canada???

and of course, I did put it in the tos and faq and will have it on the front page...

I am just trying to cover the bases here...thanks for any technical help...
not wishing any philosophical discussions...just how to limit in cc program ..thanks..cheri

If I got your question right, in your scripts admin, choose Targeting, then Country Selections, then delete those countries that you don't need.

Thanks Yna....whew this is a lot to delete LOL

I was hoping there was some easier way...but I guess I just have to sit here and manually delete all these..never heard of some ...

maybe John will add a function to the program to make this easier LOL>>but thanks again ...

any suggestions as to ip's or other limiting I could do to make "sure"?? thanks again in advance

Umm.. I'm not really an expert with IP's. You're gonna have to ask someone else with that tongue.gif

You can check the ip...I use this one http://www.schwarzl.com/ipcheck.html There might be a better one out there.

And just my opinion, but it might be easier to keep the other country choices. You are going to have some people not read and sign up anyway and most of the time they will choose their own country (they aren't trying to cheat, just didn't read and know that only US/Canada can sign up). If you keep the other country choices, you can just go through and delete anyone who signs up using another country easily...otherwise, they will choose US/Ca (because there are no other choices) and you will have to check every single IP.

I hope that made sense, I have a strong feeling it didn't. laugh.gif

OMG....well I just sat and deleted all the other countries...and yes I do understand what you are saying melissa...

ouch...wonder how I can get that page back?? maybe john can help me..or can you get me a copy of that php page that I sat and deleted all of them..I should have backed it up somehow..

but I have been asking and that seemed the only way..

yes..it might get hard cause people are sooo darn desperate...I ran some signups on a site in china...dumb me..the first ones I did, the wm went ahead and put it on the regular signup page..and said us/canada only LOL>> but...I got people from everywhere sending in phoney signups..grrr...

any idea how I can get the countries back or?? but....if I have them back do you think that will then make people think that it is ok?? I am afraid they would then say something like "you have my country in the list"??? ouch...

thanks for the ip checker thing...I am also talking with a programmer on this ..smile.gif

btw..do people really signup from the "vatican city"...and easter islands...and the indian ocean?? LOL

lol, I don't have any members from those locations but maybe others do.

I have no idea how to get them back, maybe someone else will post who knows. If you decide to leave all the choices back in, I can email you with all the ones I have for my site but that would take forever to manually put in, lol.

I don't know, a few might think it's ok to sign up. I managed searching4gold for a couple of weeks for the owner and that's how he did it. He only allowed search friendly countries to sign up but left all the other countries there and I just deleted them once a day. I never got a complaint about it (but I only did it for a couple of weeks). I think as long as it's in your terms and on the front page it would be ok?

lol, sorry..heh...just wanted to give you another option. But it's your site (of course) so if you think it's better to just leave usa/canada as choices then that's what you should do.

Hi..I emailed ya too..

this is hard to figure...if they did signup, they would not be able to participate in any of the offers...tho ...I did have an ad on a china site and they wm put the ad in the ptsup section against my directions..and I did get some insane signups...like main street hollywood california...LOL>> but who knows??

maybe I can check the ip numbers on some of the shaky ones...I dont know why they would even try since it will not be like they could use a bot to click or whatever....hmmm

what all countries really join?? I mean...easter islands, cook island, indian ocean, vatican city...what odd choices....do priests click away LOL??? too funny...mind boggling really smile.gif
thanks honey smile.gif I do appreciate the ideas..and if you can send the list, and which ones really are joining maybe I could add some back...

wouldnt people in like uk and austrailia really "read" the info..ie US canada ONLY...maybe I should not have them..maybe just like india, china, poland where they might not read english very well, then I can simply delete, ban them???....should I fly the stars and stripes and maple leaf all over the front page tee hee??

Think you may be able to do a .htaccess allow on US/Can IPs and deny to all others. Those who are not from the allowed set of IPs will just see a forbidden page, while others see a normal site. But note that sometimes there are some ISPs in Europe who has US region IPs... IPs are not bound by region specifically, but is assigned to the ISP. Which is why sometimes you have a mixup with the IP-to-country detector. tongue.gif

To make it even better, you can just customise the forbidden page too to show the normal page but no link to the signup page. So if someone from another country wants to advertise, they still can... just can't join as a member. smile.gif

I just emailed you back with a list of the countries. And also something that might be simpler that I should've thought of before. lol. You can just have an "Other" in the country selection. There's a space to type in the country name if they pick that. That way you don't clutter things up and can still catch some of them easily. smile.gif

And lol, I guess maybe they are there just in case? lol

And yea I do think people in UK, Australia, and other countries you wouldn't have to worry about.

Hi,

First thanks again to Melissa for doing a great job in running Searching4gold while I was on holiday. The members loved you.

I just deleted a member from indian ocean, so yes they do exist.

Another thing you can do is download all of the signup IPs and last signin ips then check then with a program like http://searchutilities.com/ipl/ (I use free trial version)
it will give you country of those IPs, I then just delete the accounts from problem members.

Also working on a few more easy things to do to solve this issue. If you get more ideas PM me

waving hi to boots...and thanks smile.gif

I decided to just go with usa/canada and "other-please dont signup"...then I can just delete any others...and if I have problem I can simply check ip's..

I remember some of the programs I used to belong to, many eons ago, that had one return a postcard or something before you got the first payment or gift cert or whatever, I think colorstamps was one that did that...

if I have some doubts, I may make that an option that I could ...could in certain cases...require a postcard sent to their physical address to be returned to me ..

I would only do this in a case where things did not add up....like where I think the person might be faking it and not a us/canada resident smile.gif

also I am ONLY using paypal and money orders ...so that lets out all the egold/stormpay etc that people in other countries seem to use...

thanks for the link boots...any help appreciated smile.gif cheri
