Hello:

I would like to make some improvements to my site SELF-PROMOTION REMOVED BY MODERATOR, PLEASE READ THE RULES, THANKS.
I am losing members. Primarilly because I am not getting any advertising
except for Redemptions which are mostly points or 0.1 or 0.2 cent emails and ptc
and rotating banners.
Plus, I did originally opend the site with the intent of making money for my
self and for my members. Neither of which is happenning.

Any advice on where I can advertise for advertisers (I know if anyone else
asked me this question I would tell them my site url, but anyhow). I need more
advertisers and any good suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, can you please check my advertising page (http://www.speb.net/pages/advertise.php) and check if my rates are
reasonable. I know that many sites advertise 10 cents emails to all 10,000
members for under $10. I won't do that.

Thanks in advance:
just_me
Only suggestion I can make is try Ebay
neXus
eBay or try to send the Search ADs...!

In my experience, most advertisers are also members of the website. You could concentrate your efforts into building up your member base (referral contests, advertise your own website, reduce your profit margin etc.), and the new members are likely to become advertisers.

Ebay is definitely a great option. Especially if you can get some ad swaps with other POs for your ebay auctions to possibly get some fresh blood in for advertising.

There are also POs out there willing to team up with other POs to offer more in advertising. I just recently did an offer with some other small sites , and I would be willing to do so again.

Another idea that could help is to offer some grab bag deals. If you haven't seen these on any other site yet, basically what it is is that you come up with a set number of ad packages, usually a few small ones, a few medium ones, a few large ones, and a few really cool ones. Then you offer them up by number in the size categories and say nothing about what is in them until purchased. All you would say is that they are guaranteed to have a certain amount of advertising in them. I could show you a few examples of these if you want, just PM me. I have bought a few myself and am always pleased with what I end up with smile.gif

And your prices aren't too out there. I like the surprise link, that is a neat idea smile.gif

Here is a good little webpage to help you calculate sustainable prices, it might help you out:

try using PTBid.com their rates are only 3% IF you sell which is far less than ebay and they specialize in PTR industry...

I would say Get that Idea from your Head that your Going to Make any money for yourself.. At least for now. More than likely, (at least the first few months) You'll be taking money from your pocket to cover hosting fees, At least I did. And for my "Extra Revenue" I use Ebay and Searches. I tried PTBid, But found that although Ebay IS more expensive, The results are magnitudes better, But thats just my preferences. biggrin.gif

Ugh..I think ptbid sucks..

they allow all sorts of flyby nite sites to sell their debt ridden sites without even disabling the signups while auction is on..

it is the home of the hot potato..

and all sorts of scammy stuff from what I have seen...I think they should be on a boycott list myself

Hi... speb...

your site is very nice, I also like the way you have your contact email addresses right on the page, bypassing that silly contact form ....good job

have you considered that puttng your link in your sig and posting fun stuff on the tons of trekkie boards, forums, usenet groups, newsletters might work best for you??

Instead of the full name...starship paid to read and banners etc..

maybe a sig line like "Trekkie get paid online' or something..

you have a "fresh" pool of people maybe not so much into ptr....who might really enjoy this program..

also I think you could make some affiliate money thru amazon or other programs...linking to sci fi books, trekkie books and stuff...there is a program for the science fiction book club. people get a good deal and you get paid when they signup...and maybe some other "memorabilia" sites that pay you a commission for shoppers from your site..

u could have those links on the site, and also use them in your own emails...

I think you have a good basic plan cause you have something different from the typical ptr...exploit that....and

as others suggested, you may want to trade links. ads with other small or medium size sites and possibly go in on an ad pool deal....

but...JMO>> your site is one that might actually do well with affiliate/shopping links smile.gif PM if you need more info...cheri

Hmmm.. seems the sign-up page works! What do you make of that?

BEWARE don't do a search for used panties while you're there.. more strict regulations?! WARNING.. they do have pictures. Maybe the board of health should be contacted!

By the way, when Ebay purchased PayPal... what did they want to buy? The software? NO... the membership!! They purchased personal info... But thats ok, it's Ebay!

Just in case anyone here has a photographic memory, retain this... it's copyright... not copywrite!

Thats your opinion I havent had any problems on ptbid, mind you I dont buy or sell sites, and I"m going to sell a site but its brand new, no members, and I"m not a scammer I'm working hard on my sites updating top referrers and top clickers, and having referral contests, plus I run hosting biz which I have auctioned off on ptbid, I mean they dont sell as fast as ebay sometimes, but others I sell just as fast, and have had all paying bidders, so I'm not complaining and they shouldnt be boycotted, thats rude!

Thanks

why is that rude??

dont you get it?? when a site is listed on ebay they at least have to close the membership option off...people can not unsub or join etc..the site debt does not go up during the auction..

on ptbid they have NO such safeguard...I think they are cheezy and that is my opinion...many hot potatos were passed along thanks to them

why on earth would you see a new site anyhow?? why does the world need another ptr?? dont people have the gumption to at least start their own if they must??

poohbear
Let me get this straight... what you're saying is, with the member registration closed, members can not un-sub? Now I know you dont think thats a good thing...do you? If a site is being sold I would like the option of ending my membership. With your thinking, the whole site should freeze... forcing members to leave their info for the new owner.

Don't you get it?? Ebay doesn't have them list site debt, THEY DON'T CARE!! At least ptbid is trying to have these things shown! Ebay makes it so members can't un-sub lmao. I'm sure that actually helps the seller and hurts the member!

What about the sites that have been sold and continued on with owners that have made things work? Sure they have... close the sign-up page and you've just hurt alot of people who have paid to advertise that site.

Someone opens a site and tries to help the ptr members by listening to them and all you can do is knock them. Ebay has been around alot longer than ptbid. Instead of putting them down all the time why dont you try to make some suggestions?

If a site is sold on ebay, you credit ebay for their great terms. If sold on ptbid, you call them the home of the hot potato.

Why people are helping you with your new ptr is a mystery to me! If you dont have the knowledge GoMaMa has classes. Never mind.. I forgot.. you knocked them pretty good in the past. Oh... lollipops and rainbows .. there has to be someone you havent knocked! Heres some advice... if your widdle head is confused ... give it up. Just because you've got outside advertisers, it doesnt make you a good ptr owner.

This isn't a personal attack... IJMFO !!

By the way go click the link in my above post... then go join the site! Listed for sale yet the sign-up page works! OH MY! You'll ignore that link ... wont you.. of course you will wink.gif

Advertising can be a touchy subject. But being a webmaster who is on a budget and been in business almost 18 months...I must say PTBID has been a blessing. It is geared to the PTR business - the fees are extremely reasonable - thus the savings can be passed on to buyers. And the owners are the most supportive people I have every had the pleasure of dealing with.

The owners have put a restriction of sites for sale must list the debt - which is excellent idea. They do try to monitor for fraud and they do answer their questions and emails personally!

I see no reason anyone should want to boycott such an nice system.

Hi...who are you?? LOL

fyi....I had already posted about that emails site for sale at ebay..
in fact, I SIGNED UP for the site, while it was on auction, and posted about it..
sO i AM ONE STEP AHEAD OF YOU smile.gif

maybe they are slipping

and as for paypal deal yeah..for the membership .....just like paypal bought out x.com for their membership right??

and just like all these hot potatos are really just a way of selling the member bases...not buying the site design/etc ...buying the members smile.gif and of course skipping away on debt..
watching concetto cash being sold on the ptbid site was bad..

at that point they DID NOT LIST THE SITE DEBT...many hot potatos have passed thru that site....concetto being the worst...when did they start listing the site debt?? if they did that is good...now they need to rid of the cheezy sites being sold by some guy who sells complete with a year hosting ,cheap, looks like myptr scripts

and yes, I think at some point hosts should be responsible....

you have a problem with people running legit biz and getting paid?? or do you think that all sites should just be auctioned off??

as for my "widdle head" I dont rip people off so I sleep right well on my widdle head on my widdle pillow...how some of these jerks sleep I could not tell you...

Check the threads in general discussion....that gal with 11 sites seems to be going under...watch them hot potatos come popping out is my guess..
and another wants to sell 4 sites....all of which she took on as hot potatos...one has been thru about 6 changes she says...
and then we have rebel crew...the sad tale of mendy claus, hmmm....what else ..oh yeah, new HP's....junglecash, and the one taken over by ET...so....what would you like me to do?? Join you in a love fest..."good luck with your new site, you are awesome and yes, that is great....lots of luck.."....should I put a dunce cap on my widdle head??

and btw...since you seem to know so much about me and various posts, have you been lurking all this while and then decided to come out and play as this is only your 12th post <BEG>

anyhow...do a search on the ebay site....I am a very fair person...and again, one step ahead of you...already posted about it days ago smile.gif

Yes, maybe they are or maybe they suck? unsure.gif Sorry you reserve that term for a site thats trying to help get a grip on things.

Wouldn't that mean Paypal sold and Ebay purchased members personal info? Thats what it sounds like to me anyway. Wouldn't you agree? Isn't that the same as a ptr selling their membership? I'm only pointing out that user data bases are sold, even by the biggies. I'm not agreeing with these sales, just saying Ebay and paypal are not as pure as they seem.

So what you're saying is it would have been better if the potato was passed on Ebay?
Not that I agree with it being sold but I do think it found a better buyer on ptbid than it would have on Ebay. JMO

I'm not sure when they started listing site debt, but I do know they made that change. Shows me they are trying. Are you trying to give them a chance?

I know you don't really think more sites have been sold through ptbid than on Ebay. I think you're just focusing more on the sites sold at ptbid...

Understand, I don't like sites being sold all over the place. I understand all too well how it works so you really don't need to educate me.. As far as Concetto (Beaver Bucks) goes, last time I checked the membership was higher than when it was sold and all redemptions were up to date. Even if the site were to drop off the net, some good did indeed come from the sale of the site. Some members who would have lost money, actually got paid!

Perhaps if the current high bidder for the site on Ebay wins it, you'll get to see a really bad sale. Looking at their feedback... I dont even think they know what ptr is. As far as the scripts or whatever else being sold on ptbid... are you saying you cant find the same at Ebay? I believe its worse because you have uneducated buyers who believe everything they read.
QUOTE

Hmmm... NO.. I don't! Do you have a problem with giving ptbid a chance to slowely change the way these sites are sold!!?
If you are as smart as you think you are, you would realize that if they drastically changed terms for site sales, they would only chase the site sellers back to Ebay where Joe Bloe has the chance to buy the gem...
Again... I don't like the sale of sites... but if its going to be sold, i'd rather see it land in the hands of someone we know!

I don't remember saying you rip people off, I may have said you rip people up... and i'm sure you sleep well feeling that you're above the people you put down...I'm glad you sleep well... does that make you feel awesome?

Again one step ahead of me!...lmao YOU ARE GOOD! Wow.. that puts you like 2 steps ahead of me! You'll sleep well tonight! Good for you!

For the record, I agree with 95% of the things you say... I just think you're unfair and a little rude to some.
Just give ptbid a chance to try to help the ptr members and owners before you slander them. I know you're busy, so am I... so I just ask that you try to help a site that cares.. rather than hurt it.

Thats all, i'm done (trying to keep my post count down). wink.gif
