I've been noticing a lot of members from Mumbai, and Thane in India.

So I searched for Mumbai, and found over 300 members in Mumbai alone!

Now I know for a fact that this is statistically impossible.
If this held true I should have 1000 member in New York.

80% of the cheaters I've had to delete for multiple accounts, or cheatlinks, have been from Mumbai or Thane (which according to mapquest is right next to Mumbai)

I Know, something funny is going on here, but I can't figure out how they're doing it.

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this happening, or if the entire city of Mumbai india, just suddenly decided to join mentalemails.

If anyone else has noticed this, and has any insight I'd love tohear it, because I really hate paying cheaters, but if I can't find out How they're cheating there isn't much i can do about it.

i had alot peopel from china and i heard that they dont have any law for spaming so im guess one guy spamed in india

This goes beyond a spamming problem,

Over 300 ppl in one town, plus over 100 in the next town over.
That's not a coincidence.

I catch a few multiple accounts, which tells me that they found a way around the cheat protection in CC scripts.

Cashjob was telling me today that he's been noticing a lot of new members in mumbai at getRichbyEmail too.

It may be a large town, but over 300 ppl in one place is awfully funny.
That means I should have 1000 members or so from New York City, (I have 10)

Beginning in february, I suddenly saw a huge influx of members from india,
almost every one has been from Mumbai or Thane (they're right next door)

The vast majority of the accounts I've closed for cheating have been from mumbai, or thane. (i don't care if you're from mars, you cheat, you go)

In an effort to slow things down, I Began to require any members from india or china, email for permission before joining.

Every day, I delete a dozen accounts for joining without asking, 90% from Mumbai, or Thane.

Now, tell me, is there a cheating problem?

If it isn't happening, on other sites, it will.

Yep, I have seen a repeat pattern for that. I DO NOT accpet members from India, and see that exact place listed all the time.

With my previous site, I ended up finding connections that proved their cheating. Luckly though, that is. I think more sites should look into it actually. Someone is bound to know exactly what is up.

Mumbai is a rather populated place... I'm not saying they aren't cheaters, just check and make sure...

I have tons of members from the same 2 towns and know some of them are cheaters, but I can't delete them without proof, for the most part they seem to make sure they don't "seem" to be cheating.

Ok maybe true or not!
In India is not same financial standings like in New York..isn't
So If I have standard job with standard earnings, I'll not waste my free time on ptr's programs, In case that I need more money and want to earn it on the net, that will not be with ptr's....in this case I need e.g. min. $1000 extra per month, not couple dollars..
People most using net for fun.

Of course it can be cheater but You can't know this if he/she used more different PC's.

I suggest You for first step to check IP's , do belongs to website or provider and proxy checking...

Its very possible that all these people could belong to a webring of some type. India isnt the most richly populated area in the world and it would appear that most people with PC's are all grouped to certain areas that have a little more wealth (Mumbia and Thane might be 2 of these).

When they join up for a prog, the whole ring might join too under each other to maximise potential earnings. This is not uncommon even in European countries or the US, etc...

Obviously, some of them sign up multiple accounts or find ways to sign up multiple accounts in a legal manner (home and office PC, etc) but what I suggested could be a legit answer.

I have suspended the obvious cheaters.

so how can we get control of this problem.
-- ask for scanned copies of IDs - I've thought about this but I don't want to start taking attachments [eek! can you imagine all the junk]

While it is a long time consuming progress to complete the whole database the only real way to check for multiple accounts from a proxy server would be to check the computer ID. Many of the peeps opening multiple accounts normally use a simliar username on all accounts. This would help narrow the bunch down a huge amount before setting out after the more clever ones who choose and keep note of random usernames.

Personally, i think this means that someone has found a way to fool the anti cheat on the CC scripts.

I find the occasional obvious cheater, (almost all from Mumbai/thane)
But most of them are fying under the radar somehow.

It's beginning to look like the only real way to stop it is to ban new members from india. I really hate to consider this, but as usual in this industry, a few Sweethearts ruin it for everyone.

I sent an email to John at cashcrusaders last night, asking him if he had any insights, because this is definitely more than just a large city with an impoverished population.

The world has a lot of poorer cities, but no other city in the world has this many members in either of my sites. This is obviously a new way to cheat,
we just can't prove it. Yet.

To thoe who say it's just because Mumbai has a large poulation, consider this, New Delhi is a bigger city in india, yet I only have 8 members from there.
I have over 300 from mumbai! (coincidence? I think not.)

I purchased a plug in from Jeremiah, it has tremendously cut down on my "cheater search" time.
It is obviously not a solution to the problem but has definitely made it easier to tackle for the time being.

Hiya,

This mess has been gnawing at the back of my mind for about a month.
I know it's statistically impossible to have over 300 members from 1 city, (no matter where the city is) but I couldn't figure out how to catch them at it.

Since I recently started making indian and chinese members get prior authorization to join, I have to do a search for indian members, sorted by signup date.

While I was looking at that huge list, I decided I could at least delete those that have been 30 days or more inactive.
(get rid of some anyhow)

While scanning through the lists, looking at login dates, I began to notice patterns.

I'd see the same Date/Time over and over.
Now the odds of more than 1 or 2 members logging in at the exact time are pretty low, I started marking down the patterns.

Example,
80 accounts logged in on 4-14 at exactly 4am.

22 accounts logged in on 4-26 at exactly 5:14 am

There's no logical explanation other than multiple accounts on one puter
using something to block cookies, and hide their identity.

Now you see why I didn't want to post this where the cheaters can see.

As a PO I can vouch that members sign up for multiple accounts.
90% of those that do are from China.
As for having time to click, it's easy for them to get cheat software that does all the clicking for them.

I didn't want to post that in a public folder, I did it purposely,
so that the cheaters couldn't find a way around it.

Why do you think I bothered asking for PMs instead of just posting it here?

If you think that this is just from members all having to log in between 3 and 9 you're obviously suffering from Ostrich syndrome. (head in the sand)

There's only one way that 80 accounts can all log in at the exact same time.
I don't mean hour, I mean the exact same Minute!!
Not to mention the fact that there was absolutely NO IP info for any of those 80 logins.

So what you're telling me is that 80 people decided to login at exactly 4am and they all just happened to be running software to block their IP information?

That doesn't sound very logical. In fact the odds of that happening by chance are way beyond astronomical.

There's no doubt in my mind that they were cheating.

I'd rather lose a potential member than pay a cheater money that he didn't earn.

I have this problem too, from the same country ... most of them have 2004 inserted somewhere in the username. I have about 200 members from Mumbai with the 2004 in the username, but other than that there's no proof that they are cheating because the IPs/Computer IDs are all different ... what are we supposed to do about this?

I just pmed u with a possible answer. Another fellow webmistress had this same issue and all had 2004 and i pmed u with how she found out that they were indeed cheating

mumbai is big city,it is possible to join that much member.If you still dought pay all members from mumbai through cheque.If they give wrong address all your cheque will be returned you.

Anyone can see these wm are facing some real problems here...all the people at 4 pm?? all the people with 2004 in their emailaddress?? helloooooo

JMO this is why when I start my program..which is NOT really ptr..it is usa and canada ONLY...

with ONLY offers for americans and some for canada too..

and I really feel that other programs should limit their membership....perhaps not as drastic as me <grin> but really for the average ptr you would have a lot less headaches...and the search problem would be solved...plus...IF you hope to get "real" advertisers you need to limit the countries..or at least be sure you can target your mailing list...

I have some people on aol who have small biz and are in mlm, they want to run ads on my *not yet opened site...do you really think they want to pay for leads from "mumbai"?? LOL

Good luck..and I will post another thread asking for ideas on how to keep it usa and canada only

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here. Haven't read all the posts yet.

I'm Jacky, wm of ClickingCents.

I received an email from the wm of piggybankemails.
She also found a lot of cheaters from India.
She tracked them because they all used the same password and CScripts don't pick up on that.
I saved the email because it had the names, ip's and everything on it for future reference.
If anyone's interested let me know and I'll mail it to you.

Well, that's my 2 cents on this, on to the next post.

Where the cheaters are from is irrelevant.The fact that they ARE cheaters is the issue.I have many honest members from those countries.I have found cheaters all around the world.Statistics don't lie though.I give way more scrutiny to those accounts than I do to other countries.I treat cheaters on an account by account basis.Inevitably they run here when they are caught.A forum owned by lgwong?Coincidence you say?
