I see it a lot of times, so I thought I'd make a seperate issue about it here

. For PUP.EXE and WINDOWSPOP.EXE and other virusses that have parts hidden on your computer (so you will never find them if you run a search) download the free trial of Security Task Manager at
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/download.html or you will not get rid of them. I had it and tried everything, but this was the only thing that worked for me.

Is pup.exe the same as Winpup.exe? I was able to remove winpup.exe with SpySweeper

No, it's something else. Pup-exe gives you the begiandip pop-up, and the other one you can find in different ways. Pup-exe hides itself on your computer, so when you think you have deleted it, it will actually still be there and the computer won't find it. After a while the pop-ups come back. Security Task Manager took care of everything for me. It will show you a list of items that are not supposed to be there, and tell you if it's a little bit harmful or a lot, and it explains what it is. Very handy. The best I've tried so far. They give you a 15 days trial and you can remove all the garbage.

I was able to get rid of pup.exe with Panda. It isn't actually a virus/trojan itself.....pup.exe is a file that both the Revop.A and Revop.D trojans create for themselves to "live" in.

pup.exe exploits a problem with windows media player. if you download and reinstall wmp, it will overwrite the offending registry keys.
if you don't use wmp at all, you can run adaware
while the warning message is still showing, you can quarantine the entire thing. then, go in and delete pup.exe manually.

people need to "Unhide File folders" on their system, this will help in finding those files that can't be found running a standard search on your system, to fo this open any file and click "Tools" "Folder Options" then the "View" tab then select "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and click apply, be sure to change this back once you find the file you are looking for if it's there. I use WinXp, so unhiding Hidden folders may be different on older versions of Windows, and In the Search option of Windows , their is an option to choose to search all files including hidden.
