I'm 35 years old, mother of twins, married almost 4 years; I was in the workforce for over a decade before that. I haven't seen the inside of any kind of school for years. So why do I keep having nightmares about school?!?
I don't have nightmares often, but whenever I do, it's usually this: I'm at school (usually high school but last night was college) and I realized I have a test in 5 minutes and I haven't gone to a single class for 3 months/can't find the test room/am in the wrong school/wearing no pants/something. laugh.gif tongue.gif

What's up with that? Also last night in this recurring dream I missed the bus and lost all my books. laugh.gif

lol dr freud here...

do you have feelings of inadequacy about something?
ees there zomething on your mind that is perhaps a big project at home or with the kids that you feel nervous about?
are you overwhelmed with too much to do that you cant think straight sometimes?

lol, i have these dreams too...and about working in a restaurant, which i havent dont for 20 years..the chef doesnt show, the dining room is full, and my feet are nailed to the floor...then i wake up...

I also have nightmares about school.
There are a variety of themes, but often I dream I'm locked in one and can't find my way out.

Don't feel bad Katie - I'm 50 and I still have the same kinds of dreams sometimes. Most of the time mine involve either not remembering my schedule at all, or if I do remember it, I can't recall which room I need to go to - and this is always a result of not having gone to class in ages (but at least I'm always dressed! tongue.gif )

A very wise person explained these dreams to me once and it really makes a lot of sense (and has proven to be very accurate): The not going to class part comes from feeling like there are things you should have or could have done, but didn't for whatever reason - and not being able to remember/find the right class (being lost) comes from feeling like by not doing those things, you've caused something negative to happen.

It's kind of like a big guilt trip.

I have nightmares sometimes about school, but I'm in school!

Usually it's about getting money to complete, or having a big test I forgot about, or not finishing my homework in time(which is reality this term-just too much on my mind)

Omg Cathy, once I did get locked in the school! There was a half day teacher strike so we all had to go home at lunchtime. I went into my classroom and there were several others there also getting out coats and bags. By the time I got my stuff ready I turned round and no one else was there - I went to the door to get into the corridor and it was locked!! ohmy.gif Luckily my friend and I were supposed to walk home together so she came looking for me and found I was locked in. She went looking for a teacher to let me out, but the teachers just said 'sorry i'm on strike'!!! ph34r.gif By this time I thought I would have to stay there all weekend sad.gif Eventually my friend found a caretaker with a key but it was terrifying.

I do also have nightmares about school. I dream that I havent done my homework, that I am late for class. One of them is that I go back after the summer holidays and dont know which class the next lesson is and dont have a timetable and am just wandering around wondering where I should be. Last night I had a new dream about school, that I went back to school and I was 25 but all the other kids were 14-16, I felt really odd and couldnt figure out why I was back at school at that age. It's not like I am 25 even, I'm 31 huh.gif

I still dream about the 'friends' who bullied me at school and all sorts of dreams end up taking place in classrooms and in the school corridors etc. We spend a lot of our life in school so it's no wonder it has such a big impression on our minds. You might have been reminded of school by a smell or something you ate or something that one of your kids told you happened to them.

Last night I also dreamed I went back in time and was back at school, I saw a good friend who I havent seen since i was 17 and I 'had' to go up to her and tell her a message, that if she got in touch with me she 'must' try again if I didnt respond the first time. In the dream this was my chance to change the outcome of the future, but it was just a dream. It's kind of sad but there is no way to get back in touch with her and I do wonder where she is now and if she has children etc.

Can't say I've had them for a few years (ie when I was last at school, then I had them daily)

Wow, some interesting responses here! Thanks everybody smile.gif

If you think that dream was telling Dr. Freud, how about the one I had when I started my new job at a lab:

I lost my experimental results, forgot to label all the slides so I just labelled them all randomly right before my boss came in and looked at them, then I ran away and down a hill looking for my notebook. I got to the bottom of the street where the guy said he had my notebook (but he didn't), then a timer started going off for one of my experiments and I had to run back up the hill and then it started raining. All of a sudden I was wearing rollerblades and trying to run up this wet hill which was like 45 degrees straight up and it was raining and I couldn't run anywhere and the timer getting louder the whole time laugh.gif

You think I have some possible anxieties about failure? Nahhh, couldn't be! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Lol I was dreaming about snow things and I was at a shopping centre near where I used to live and the snow had turned to thick ice, so people were wearing ice skates to get around instead of walking, except me.... I looked down and I had on football boots with studs on LMAO

Me too Katie!! I'm 30 years old and have dreams all the time about school. blink.gif
Mine are usually I can't find my locker or I can't remember the combination to the lock on my locker. And I've had one about not remembering my schedule and forgetting where my classroom is.

What's weird is I've had the same dreams over and over again.

I have strange dreams all the time. I also have the same dreams repeatedly. I even remember most of my dreams in vivid detail, even the ones I had as a little child. One of these days I need to write them all down and see if I can figure out what they all mean!! laugh.gif
