I found some old cd's this afternoon and thought i'd blast them out as i was
cleaning, and found one song that made me just stop.
"Why do babies starve, When there's enough food to feed the world?
Why when there're so many of us, Are people still alone?
Why are the missiles called peace keepers, When they're aimed to kill?
Why is a woman still not safe, When she's in her home?
love is hate
war is peace
no is yes
and we're all free???"
I just started to wonder why?
"Why are the missiles called peace keepers, When they're aimed to kill?"
Is it's cause everything is killed so it's quite?
or just someone trying to make war sound nice?
Anyone else ever had a song that made you think???

I think some thing sound kind of logical to me

"Why are the missiles called peace keepers, When they're aimed to kill?"
If you kill the guys that disturb the peace, I quess you can call those missiles peace keepers right?
"Why do babies starve, When there's enough food to feed the world?"
Well thats all about transporting and stuff right? When it takes too long you can't eat the food anymore

btw I usally don't listen to the lyrics too much, I prefer the sounds and stuff (I'm a trance addict

It's not that simple and logical at all.
Nothing can justify missiles, bombs, war, violence in general. Violence creates only more violence.
About starving childrens.. It's not their fault that they live in poorness and misery. When some eat themselves to death then others starve to death. But that's life...
Sad.

There are many songs that make me think. Different groups in different styles.
There is an Spanish group called "Mago de Oz" which letters are both funny and full of thinkings.
I could quote lots of their chorus, but I'll just post of my fave ones:
"Fighting for peace is the same as #### for virginity."
(Self-censored as I do not want to post the word, but you get the point, don't you?

Just about every song my hero, the late great Harry Chapin, ever wrote makes me think in one way or another, but of all the things he's written, I think this one made the biggest impression:
Flowers Are Red
The little boy went first day of school
He got some crayons and started to draw
He put colors all over the paper
For colors was what he saw
And the teacher said.. What you doin' young man
I'm paintin' flowers he said
She said... It's not the time for art young man
And anyway flowers are green and red
There's a time for everything young man
And a way it should be done
You've got to show concern for everyone else
For you're not the only one
And she said...
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy said...
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
Well the teacher said.. You're sassy
There's ways that things should be
And you'll paint flowers the way they are
So repeat after me.....
And she said...
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy said...
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. It's for your own good..
And you won't come out 'til you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head
And he went up to the teacher
And this is what he said...
And he said...
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen
Time went by like it always does
And they moved to another town
And the little boy went to another school
And this is what he found
The teacher there was smilin'
She said...Painting should be fun
And there are so many colors in a flower
So let's use every one
But that little boy painted flowers
In neat rows of green and red
And when the teacher asked him why
This is what he said...
And he said...
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
There's no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen.

I would have to say that the song that always gets me thinking (year after year, time after time) is:
Another Day In Paradise
She calls out to the man on the street, "Sir, can you help me?
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep. Is there somewhere you can tell me?"
He walks on, doesn't look back, he pretends he can't hear her
He starts to whistle as he crosses the street, seems embarassed to be there
Oh, think twice, it's just another day for you and me in paradise
Oh, think twice, it's just another day for you, you and me in paradise
Just think about it
She calls out to the man on the street, he can see she's been crying
She's got blisters on the soles of her feet, she can't walk, but she's trying
Oh, just think twice, it's just another day for you and me in paradise
Oh yes, think twice, it's just another day for you, you and me in paradise
Just think about it, uh-huh, just think about it
Oh Lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh oh Lord, there must be something you can say
You can tell by the lines on her face, you can see that she's been there
Probably been moved on from everyplace, cause she didn't fit in there
Oh yes, think twice, it's just another day for you and me in paradise
Oh yes, think twice, it's just another day for you, you and me in paradise
Just think about it, uh-huh, just think about it
It's just another day for you and me in paradise
It's just another day for you and me in paradise
It's just another day for you and me in paradise
It's just another day for you and me in paradise
It's just another day for you and me, it's another day for you and me
It's another day for you and me in paradise
In paradise, oh, oh, oh, oh yeah

This one makes me stop and think
Ozzy Osbourne - DreamerGazing through the window at the world outside
Wondering will mother earth survive
Hoping that mankind will stop abusing her sometime
After all there's only just the two of us
And here we are still fighting for our lives
Watching all of history repeat itself
Time after time
I'm just a dreamer
I dream my life away
I'm just a dreamer
Who dreams of better days
I watch the sun go down like everyone of us
I'm hoping that the dawn will bring a sign
A better place for those Who will come after us ...
This time
I'm just a dreamer
I dream my life away oh yeah
I'm just a dreamer
Who dreams of better days
Your higher power may be God or Jesus Christ
It doesn't really matter much to me
Without each others help there ain't no hope for us
I'm living in a dream of fantasy
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah
If only we could all just find serenity
It would be nice if we could live as one
When will all this anger, hate and biggotry ...
Be gone?
I'm just a dreamer
I dream my life away
Today
I'm just a dreamer
Who dreams of better days
Okay
I'm just a dreamer
Who's searching for the way
Today
I'm just a dreamer
Dreaming my life away
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah

I've always liked a verse from Dust in the Wind by Kansas
Now, don't hang on.
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky.
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy.
Dust in the Wind,
All we are is Dust in the Wind.
I don't know if it's so much the song itself or the music of that song I like so much.
And the following song is another one:
Rhymes and Reasons (John Denver)
So you speak to me of sadness and the coming of the winter.
The fear that is within you now, seems to never end.
And the dreams that have escaped you,
And the hopes that you've forgotten
You tell me that you need me now,
You want to be my friend.
And you wonder where we're going,
Where's the rhyme?
Where's the reason?
And it's you cannot accept,
It it here we must begin
To seek the wisdom of the children
And the graceful way of flowers in the wind.
For the children and the flowers
Are my sisters and my brothers.
Their laughter and their lovliness
Could clear a cloudy day.
Like the music of the mountains
And colors of the rainbow
They're a promise of the future
And a blessing of today.
Though the cities start to crumble
And the towers fall around us.
The sun is slowly fading
And it's colder than the sea.
It is written from the desert
To the mountains they shall lead us.
By the hand and by the heart
They will comfort you and me.
In their innocence and trusting
They will teach us to be free.
For the children and the flowers
Are my sisters and my brothers.
Their laughter and their lovliness
Could clear a cloudy day.
And the song that I am singing
Is a prayer to my believers.
Come and stand beside us
We will find a better way.

this is the one that gives me shivers everytime I hear and I wish more people would do what it says, the song is by Everlast:
We've all seen the man at the liquor store beggin' for your change
the hair on his face is dirty, dreadlocked and full of mange
he asks a man for what he could spare with shame in his eyes
"Get a job you loving slob" is all he replied.
God forbid you ever had to walk mile in his shoes
cos then you really might know what it's like to sing the blues
then you really might know what it's like (what it's like) X4
Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom who said he was in love
he said don't worry bout a thing baby doll, I'm the man you've been dreamin of
but 3 months later he say he won't date her or return her calls
and she swear 'God ###### if I find that man I'm cutting off his balls'
then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walking through the door
they call her a killer and they call her a sinner and they call her a ######
God forbid you ever had to walk mile in her shoes
then you really might know what it's like to have to choose
then you really might know what it's like (what it's like) X4
I've seen a rich man beg, I've seen a good man sin, I've seen a tough man cry
I've seen a loser win and a sad man grin I heard an honest man lie
I've seen the good side of bad and the down side of up and everything between
I licked the silver spoon, drank from the golden cup and smoked the finest green
I stroked the fattest dimes at least a couple of times before I broke their hearts
you know where it ends, yo, it usually depends on where you start.
I knew this kid named Max who used to get fat stacks out on the corner with drugs
he liked to hang out late, get ###### faced and keep a pace with thugs
until late one night there was a big gun fight and Max lost his head
he pulled out his chrome .45 talked some ###### and wound up dead
now his wife and his kids are caught in the midst of all of this pain
you know it crumbles that way, at least that's what they say when you play the game
God forbid you ever had to wake up to hear the news
then you really might know what it's like to have to lose
and then you really might know what it's like (what it's like)
then you really might know what it's like (what it's like)
then you really might know what it's like (what it's like)
to have to lose.

K here it is, I love this song too:
Oh... life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight, loosing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think, I thought I saw you try
Every whisper
Every waking hour
I'm choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt, lost and blind fool, fool
Oh no I said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees, failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
That was just a dream
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why, try
That was just a dream
just a dream...
just a dream...

OK one more and I will stop but it will be hard, I write alot of poetry and song lyrics always have an impact on me, listen to them more than the music
Waterfalls by TLC:
A lonely mother gazing out of her window
Staring at a son that she just can't touch
If at any time he's in a jam
She'll be by his side
But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much
But all the praying just ain't helping at all
Cause he can't seem to keep hisself out of trouble
So he goes out and he makes his money the best way he knows how
Another body laying cold in the gutter
Listen to me
(chorus)
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that
You're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way
Or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast
Little precious has a natural obsession
For temptation but he just can't see
She gives him loving that his body can't handle
But all he can say is baby it's good to me
One day he goes and takes a glimpse
in the mirror
But he doesn't recognize his own face
His health is fading and he doesn't know why
3 letters took him to his final resting place
Ya'll don't hear me
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that
You're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way
Or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast
Come On
I seen a rainbow yesterday
But too many storms have come and gone
Leavin' a trace of not one God given ray
Is it because my life is ten shades of gray
I pray all ten fade away
Seldom praise Him for the sunny days
And like his promise is true
Only my faith can undo
The many chances I blew
To bring my life to anew
Clear blue and unconditional skies
Have dried the tears from my eyes
No more lonely cries
My only bleedin' hope
Is for the folk who can't cope
Wit such an endurin' pain
That it keeps em' in the pourin' rain
Who's to blame
For tootin' caine into your own vein
What a shame
You shoot and aim for someone else's brain
You claim the insane
And name this day and time
For fallin' prey to crime
I say the system got you victim to your own mind
Dreams are hopeless aspirations
In hopes of comin' true
Believe in yourself
The rest is up to me and you
Don't go chasin' waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that
You're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way
Or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast

I don't know if there are any Springsteen fans around here, but one song that really hit me like a ton of bricks the first time I heard it is American Skin (41 Shots) . And after hearing it hundreds of times, it still gives me chills.
The lyrics:
| QUOTE |
41 shots.... and we'll take that ride 'cross this nice river to the other side 41 shots... cut through the night You're kneeling over his body in the vestibule Praying for his life
Is it a gun, is it a knife Is it a wallet, this is your life It ain't no secret It ain't no secret No secret my friend You can get killed just for living In your American skin
41 shots Lena gets her son ready for school She says "on these streets, Charles You've got to understand the rules If an officer stops you Promise you'll always be polite, that you'll never ever run away Promise Mama you'll keep your hands in sight"
Is it a gun, is it a knife Is it a wallet, this is your life It ain't no secret It ain't no secret No secret my friend You can get killed just for living In your American skin
Is it a gun, is it a knife Is it in your heart, is it in your eyes It ain't no secret
41 shots... and we'll take that ride 'Cross this nice river To the other side 41 shots... got my boots caked in this mud We're baptized in these waters and in each other's blood
Is it a gun, is it a knife Is it a wallet, this is your life It ain't no secret It ain't no secret No secret my friend You can get killed just for living In your American skin |
And for those not familiar with the story of Amadou Diallo:
| QUOTE |
In the early morning of February 4, 1999, Amadou Diallo had just come back from getting some food. The streets were deserted, except for a single car that kept driving back and forth. From the stoop of his building, Amadou peered out at the car, wondering what it was doing. Suddenly, four men jumped out of the car with guns drawn and began yelling and running towards him.
Amadou turned and ran for his apartment, but realised that the men would shoot him before he could reach the door. He reached in his jacket to get his wallet, hoping they would take his money and go. Instead, one of the men yelled "Gun!" to the others and began backing away from Amadou. Somebody fired a shot, while at the same time, one of the men moved backwards and tripped on the steps. Thinking Amadou had shot the man, the others opened fire.
Forty-one shots were fired, and Amadou Diallo's body was hit nineteen times. He died in the vestibule of his building, unarmed, his wallet lying open beside his body. The men who killed him were Edward McMellon, Sean Carroll, Kenneth Boss and Richard Murphy. All four were New York City Police Officers, Street Crime Unit. |

lyrics from Grow Up
band - Fifteen
Grow Up
Mama said, pour me some wine son
And you can have a sip for your self
Mama said, do your homework
And you can watch TV all you want
Mama said, do what I say or I'm gonna beat the love out of you
Mama said, this is normal-see
You don't have it as bad as the other kids on the block
So then we all pretended that I grew up
Mama said, I got a letter today
Says you've cut 187 out of 190 days
Mama said, we've noticed lately
You have no interest in gainful employment
Mama said, it's time to lock you up
Make your round brain fit in a square hole
I said, sure thing, I'm just gonna play one last show
In the city, but you know, I didn't ever go home again
I stopped pretending that I had a family
We all pretend, that we love our children
Until they show any signs of having their own will
Then we beat them, into submission
We beat them into the superior ways of our way of thinking
4,000 kids are murdered by their parents each year.

Song: Black Rose Immortal
Band: Opeth
In the name of desperation
I call your name
A lamentation I sigh
Again and again
Spiritual eclipse
The gateways are closed for me to seek
The night...
A veil of stars, watching
My shadow is born from light
The light of the eye, in darkness
Over troubled waters memories soar
Endlessly, searching night and day
The moonlight caresses a lonely hill
With the calmness of a whisper
I wear a naked soul
A blank face in the streaming water
It is cold in here
Frost scar my coat with dust
Eyes attach to your mute portrait
We spoke only through thoughts
Together we gazed, awaited
Hours brought thirst and the rising sun
Sunbirds leave their dark recesses
Shadows glid the archways
Do not turn your face towards me
Confronting me with my lonliness
You are in a forest unknown
The secret orchard
And your voice is vast and achromatic
But still so precious
Lullaby of the crescent moon took you
Mesmerized, its kaleidoscopic face
Granted you a hollow stare
Another soul within the divine herd
I have kept it
The amaranth symbol
Hiddin inside the golden shrine
Until we rejoice in the meadow
Of the end
When we both walk the shadows
It will set ablaze and vanish
Black rose immortal
It is getting dark again
Dusk shuffle across the fields
The evening trees moan as if they knew
At night I always dream of you

this song always makes me stop and think about how people treat their children:
=============================
Alanis Morissette - Perfect
=============================
Sometimes is never quite enough
If you're flawless, then you'll win my love
Don't forget to win first place
Don't forget to keep that smile on your face
Be a good boy
Try a little harder
You've got to measure up
And make me prouder
How long before you screw it up
How many times do I have to tell you to hurry up
With everything I do for you
The least you can do is keep quiet
Be a good girl
You've gotta try a little harder
That simply wasn't good enough
To make us proud
I'll live through you
I'll make you what I never was
If you're the best, then maybe so am I
Compared to him, compared to her
I'm doing this for your own ###### good
You'll make up for what I blew
What's the problem...why are you crying
Be a good boy
Push a little harder now
That wasn't fast enough
To make us happy
We'll love you just the way you are if you're perfect

"Time" by Pink Floyd...sends chills up my spine every time I listen to it. It's so TRUE.
--------------------------
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.

Ok, I just replied that things aren't always that simple.
Anyway... Lyrics that have lately made me think:
Evanescence - My Immortal
I'm so tired of being here.
Suppressed by all my childhood fears.
And if you have to leave,
I wish that you would just leave.
Cause your presence still lingers here,
and it won't leave me alone.
These wounds won't seem to heal,
this pain is just too real,
there's just too much that time cannot erase.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears,
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears.
I held your hand through all of these years.
But you still have...
All of me.
You used to captivate me by your resonating mind,
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind.
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice has chased away all the sanity in me.
These wounds won't seem to heal,
this pain is just too real,
there's just too much that time cannot erase.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears,
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears.
I held your hand through all of these years.
But you still have...
All of me.
I tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone.
But though you're still with me,
I've been alone all along.
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears,
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears.
I held your hand through all of these years.
But you still have...
All of me.

One that always brings tears to my eyes is from John Denver called "The Box". I remember hearing this when I was a lot younger....
Once upon a time in the land of hushabye
Around about the wondrous days of yaw
I came across a sort of box
Bound up with chains and locked with locks
And labelled kindly do not touch, its war
Decree was issued round about
All with a flourish and a shout
And a gaily coloured mascot tripping lightly on before
Dont fiddle with this deadly box or break the chains or pick the locks
And please, dont ever play about with war
Well, the children understood
Children happen to be good
They were just as good around the time of yaw
They didnt try to pick the locks, or break into that deadly box
They never tried to play about with war
Mummies didnt either
Sisters, aunts, grannies neither
Cause they were quiet and sweet and pretty in those wondrous days of yaw
Well, very much the same as now, not the ones to blame somehow
For opening up that deadly box of war
But someone did
Someone battered in the lid
And spilled the insides out across the floor
A sort of bouncy, bumpy ball made up of guns and flags and all the tears and horror and the death that goes with war
It bounced right out
And went bashing all about
And bumping into everything and stored
And what was sad and most unfair is that it didnt seem to care who much it bumped
Or why, or what, or for
It bumped the children mainly
And Ill tell you this quite plainly
It bumps them every day, and more and more, and leaves them dead and burned and dying
Thousands of them sick and crying
Cause when it bumps, its really very sore
Now theres a way to stop the ball
It isnt difficult at all
All it takes is wisdom, Im absolutely sure that we could get it back into the box
And buy the chains and lock the locks
No one seems to want to save the children any more
Well, thats the way it all appears
Cause its been bouncing round for years and years
In spite of all the wisdom wiz since those wondrous days of yaw
And the time they came across the box
Bound up with chains and locked with locks
And labelled kindly do not touch, its war
