SECURITY WARNING - Approximately 4:00 pm EST, our site experienced a vicious denial of service attack. In response, we disconnected our systems from the internet, and after exhaustively securing ALL systems, we have conducted a forensic investigation, based on system log files. This is what we found:
The person responsible engaged a script on our servers, which attempted to 'try' a number of different passwords on our database and application servers, as well as on user accounts. This amount of activity was so enormously extensive, it caused our servers to shut down, and therefore we disconnected from the internet.
We have contacted our ISP (they have 24/7 tech support), and we have submitted to them the IP addresses this person used. We will give them to you now. They are: 195.5.0.253, 216.140.50.10, 216.239.0.93, 64.8.207.114 and 169.237.39.166.
At this time, we are certain that the perpetrator did not gain access to our database or application servers. However, we are being vigilant at this time, and may suspend certain program functions temporarily.
The person responsible is an uncanny competitor of our program, and has attempted to hack our system in the past, however not to this magnitude. We are not certain about how may other programs this person has attempted to shut down, but we do know this: This person's motive is simply to put us out of business for good. That won't happen.
At this time, we'd like to ask the membership to not be alarmed and to PLEASE take precautionary measures with your account, for example, changing your password frequently, and taking note of any unauthorized use of your account. NO financial or credit card information is stored on our servers at any time.
As always, we thank you for your continued and unrelenting support. But please remember: Cyber-Hackers are terrorists. Period. We have sufficient evidence to provide to local, state, provincial, and federal law enforcement agencies. Our continued existence on the internet will now and forever prove that terrorists of any kind don't win.
