This is in response to the past 10 complaints I have read in this section.
I know this isn't a popular opinion and I probably lose money this way but here goes. I DON'T join a site unless 4 factors are meet. Apply these rules to the programs your complaining about and I would be willing to bet you wouldn't be feeling ripped right now. Good luck my friends
1. They have been around for at least 4 months.
2. They have payout praise in this and other forums consistently month in month out.
3. The webmaster responds to a "mock" email to them within 2 days. (Usually something such as "What server do you use so I will know load time".
4. Payout is below 20.00. (Unless your a wb or heavy advertiser, you aren't going to reach payout in the heavy hitter programs without a lot of time and effort).
Those are my own rules and they have served me well in 89% of the sites I have joined. The other 11% is imo cost of doing business and acceptable "lost money and time" %. The only exception to these rules I make is 1.00 and under min. payment programs. Usually you can get payout fast enough to figure out if they are frauds or not.
Think these rules over and modify them to suit your own needs and I can assure you a lot less stress in getting "ripped.

Good point about the communication factor. On the same note, I actually wouldn't consider paying a single cent to advertise with a program without emailing them first!!

Very good advice, allthough I don;t follow the 4th rule. Even higher paying sites can be trustworthy enough to join. I just take a glance at the ad-prices and if they sell heavily underpriced I have my doubts

Dutchy,
Your absolutely right. A lot of higher priced programs payout. Thats what I was saying, no doubt I do lose money by not joining them. The reason I don't is because of the numbers. If your wrong you have to eat a lot of time and effort in a program that lasts longer because of the high payout. It may take half a year before trouble brews in a high payout site. They can get away with it for a lot longer if they are frauds because only a select few will reach payout in the first few months. I keep my % of quality sites high because I don't take that risk. It's a personal choice and each person has to decide. Good luck friends
