Today I was thinking about a first database cleaning, and I decided to look at cheater reports on my CC.
No cheaters and no people with the same computer (my script say... have to check it better manually tongue.gif).
But I saw a member with 4 bad turing clicks.
I sent something like 10 emails, and I think 4 bad turing clicks in a week since the site's opening are quite a lot.
I decided to send out a cheat link.

Email subject was: "English Test - D.e.l.e.t.e!" (thought people would simply delete the email).
Timer was 25 seconds (enough to close the window, I was able to do it anyway, I tested it tongue.gif).
The page loaded with the link was this one, I think it was clear enough...
Now a member clicked on it, above in the timer frame it was written "-50 cents"...

The member I'm talking about has no paypal address (ok, it can happen, some fill in those infos only when requesting payment...).
It wasn't the same as the bad turing numbers.

Now I'm feeling guilty for the 50 cents sad.gif
Should I cancel the click right away and give the members the 50 cents right now or should I wait until tomorrow (maybe this member will notice it?)?

Help? unsure.gif

Tough call.

I must say though I got your email and it was very easy to tell it was a cheat link. You didn't hide it among other links and the subject was clearly marked.

I don't think you should feel guilty. I probably would as well though. But they clicked the link. You were not hiding it..it was out in the open.

I think you should leave it for now and wait and see if the member even notices. Or if you are feeling too bad about it write them a little note about it and see if they write back. This way you can tell if they read and write English or not.

In the end it is all up to you of course. These are just my thoughts on it.

Good Luck with what you decide.

Since it's almost midnight here, I think I'll sleep on it.
Maybe I'll give the member the 50 cents back.
But while the timer goes usually I check the link's value (if not stated in the email), and there was "-50 cent(s)" written.
And the loading page was written big enough sad.gif

Ok, I think I need some sleep, hoping I'll get more hints here until tomorrow morning (always meaning GMT+1) smile.gif

Have a great day/night/whatever and cya tomorrow smile.gif

Im not in your program but...

It sounds like it was clearly marked and as long as your not a one strike your out type of person I dont think the member shoud get the $.50 back. Part of PTR is READ and if the user has the window minimised so they cant see the page and just click away there needs to be some reprocutions.

I think its fair for your program to reabsorb the $.50

I guess it really depends on the members reaction, I usually leave it up to the member to contact me, anyone can make a mistake and people on slow connections do sometimes have problems. If they dont contact you then leave it as it is, if you hear from them then make your judgement depending on their reaction.

Dont suppose that was much help really

I've accidently clicked a cheat link before and I speak perfect english (OK I'm scottish but there's no need to nit pick...)

I wouldn't feel guilty about it at all.

I was cursing myself up and down when I noticed but I just swallowed it and tried to pay more attention. To be honest my eyes were like this blink.gif ... but advertisers are paying for me to be like this ph34r.gif

I learned to keep my eyes peeled and pay more attention!

You click it, you pay the consequences... some WM's delete members for clicking on a cheat link only once, you're not being harsh at all biggrin.gif

Just my wee.. tired... blink.gif opinion.... oh jeez I'm off to bed before I blabber any more.. blink.gif

Edited to add: p.s. I'm not a PO just a nosy wee bugger who wandered in here tongue.gif

well I saw the email subject and just deleted it wink.gif so as a member, I think you should just let the 50 cent "fine" stand....if they had read the subject line, they should have deleted it like I did, but since they didn't and clicked AND let a 25 second timer run out, IMO they deserve to lose the 50 cents wink.gif Call me a hard.... errrr....nose if you want to but there isn't any excuse for clicking and letting the timer run out.....short of their house being on fire around them (and then I'd want verification from the FD) laugh.gif

but seriously though, you ought to let the fine stand....we're being paid to read not just click links willy nilly smile.gif as maz said...you click a cheat link--YOU pay.....and if you leave it place, you could add to your TOS something to the effect that if you hit a negative balance, you will be deleted. That way they end up doing themselves in by not reading. Not to mention it will take some seriously clicking to get back what they lost by being careless wink.gif I have yet to click a cheat link *knock on wood* but if I did, I wouldn't be emailing the wm with any excuses...because in MY eyes, it was nobody's fault but my own. rolleyes.gif

just my .0000001 cents worth on it. tongue.gif

this isn't a comment on the cheat link ... but i think 4 incorrect turing clicks is acceptable given the time period and number of emails sent. just a thought. wink.gif

This time I rolled it back.
I had 7 clicks out of 148 members in less than 12 hours.
Only 2 noticed it and posted here on GPF, and one out of those 7 is the same as the 4 bad turing clicks (I'm not sending that many emails to justify 4 bad clicks blink.gif )

I think next week I'll do another one, maybe not a 50 cents one, put a 60 seconds timer and change the "cheat.php" page smile.gif

I think I'll rant about this in my next email to members biggrin.gif
