Okay so I got a paid email from them today and all it said was click here to get paid xxxx amount and then had the link. So I click the link and lo and behold I get a full screen of porn and a gazillion porn popups. And ya know how it is with those porn popups, ya close one and 4 more appear. I was so frustrated and angry because sometimes I let my very underage kid click links for me. They could've given a warning first. And I don't even remember seeing anything in their TOS or help section about they were gonna be sending adult email, and I sure as heck didn't sign up for any. Maybe I shouldn't be so angry, but I would've gone through the roof if my kid had seen that junk. The webmaster or mistress needs to learn a little decency.

its up to you I guess........ ac.gif

well ya know how kids wanna be like their parents. it makes him feel like he's doing something important, and he can't even read yet, so I didn't see any harm in it. sometimes I let him sit in my lap while I'm at the computer. and most of the links i let him click were site visits. but thats not the thing that really got me upset. its that they sent adult mail with no warning at all and without asking if adult mail could be sent.
b21jpv
shy22: What site sent you the email?
cheese
you should send an email to the webmaster and ask if this is something that he normally does... if not, he might be wanting to look into it... *shrugs*

Shy22, I'm totally with you on this one, unless the site is advertised at sending out adult email, you should never get adult email, end of story.

I see no harm in letting your kid click the links and yes, me having kids of my own, know exactly how they get excited doing silly things like this.

I'd mail the webmaster immediately and demand an explanation...

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly no prude, but if I wanna see adult emails, I sign for adult email sites, something I've done and actually find them very good payers!!!

Sites that do send out adult related stuff i.e. AdultLetterWealth, etc, clearly let you know what the emails will contain and thats the way it should be!!!
kiwinz
ya know you could get your account deleted for letting your kid click for you

i deleted 2 accounts at bunnymail4u when i owned it because of two peopel complained that their little 4 yr old that clicks the link doesnt want to see adult stuff (it wasnt adult stuff lol it was a pic like the one of fancycashmail)

yeah but I deleted them becuase advertisers pay to have people read the ads and visit the website when clearly a 4 yr old cant read that good and isnt interested or would know how to signup to a paid to read site etc

my sugestion to you is to click yourself then it will save you time by getting deleted
matois
As for kids clicking links, I've often had my youngest on my lap, letting him maneuver the mouse and making the click -- then we "read" the new page together and I let him pick out words to "read". The ad is being seen by the adult, and read by the adult, but for the 10-minute attention span of my kid, he gets to use the "puter" and help mom.

I don't think anyone was implying they turn loose their kids to read the paid mails and click for them!

And gettinng XXX content without a warning -- I would be WAY miffed!

Yeah Kiwi, maybe you're correct there, but whats to say the parent is not reading the advert then letting the kid clickthrough???
billiev
av.gif I would pitch a hissyfit if porn came up in an email! My computer is in the living room, and my little girl--she's 3--plays while I "work" on the computer.(she says mommy's working aa.gif ) I hope you have let the webmaster know about this. Porn only belongs in adult mail programs, and even then should be clearly labeled as such.

ok kiwinz you must not have kids cause it doesn't seem like you understood what i said about my kid clicking. and it's not cheating. it's not like i sit him in the chair and say "do this for mommy" then i turn my back and go do something else. NO! he's only 3 and he can't even read. duh. he gets to feel like a big boy and its a great way for him to learn hand-eye coordination. i do want my kid to be computer literate. thanks brian and matois for understanding where i'm coming from.

LOL, whats to say the adults who DON'T have kids are reading the emails???

Kiwi, its just impossible to tell who and who doesn't actually read the emails, so we could be here all day arguing about it.

I'm just saying, there is no harm at ALL in letting your kid sit on your knee and click a link, after all, if we don't do this (I don't myself by the way) whose going to carry on the mantle in the next generation of clickers, lol... aa.gif ae.gif ac.gif
shy22
LOL@brian!!! that is so true. there probably are lots of people who let their older kids(the ones that can read and know exactly what they're doing) click for them, but just don't admit to it. now that's cheating. and kiwinz for you to delete accounts cause a 4 year old clicked a couple of links??? just ridiculous.

I agree with you.. No I don't let my kids click the links although my baby always wants to talk to ya'll when he's in my lap but I have two step children that are impressionable age.. I don't sign up with adult ptrp's cause I know that adult emails would be what I would get... So I think that all ptrp's that are going to advertise adult sites should be required to put that up there not necessarily on their tos but at least at the link... and I have seen some webmaster/webmistresses do that but not all of them do it.. that's why I try to click my links when they aren't there so i don't have to worry about it.. but still it would be nice for the webmaster/webmistress to say "warning adult content if you don't want to see it don't click" something like that... what's the harm in doing that??

Madam Shy,

The site in question has an age limitation for joining for a reason. Have your children reached that age yet?

So you have let them participate in a program which is for adults by letting them click for you.

I ponder asto what else they are clicking on the ole computer whilst you are letting them click and view adverts meant for you to see as an adult.

You are causing a violation to these advertisers by having young children read them; that is if they fully understand the lingo.

"The webmaster or mistress needs to learn a little decency."

And you, Madam Shy need to learn responsible parenting.

So much for the parents of today; makes one feel the need to castrate one's self.

Must ponder that; as for you, you cannot even understand what this message means. Too late.
tipsy
so okay if the site says you have to be eighteen which of course I'm over that then I should be subjected to adult email just because of my age... I think not aa.gif I do not wish to receive adult emails if I did I would join a program that states that they have paid emails.. children or no children.. people should not have to read adult emails if they do not wish too.. that should be something opted in.. not made to do it by not telling you it's an adult link then you click it only to find that it is... they should at least post a warning... but I understand where your coming from as far as if the member database is over the age of eighteen at least they know they are not breaking any laws..
shy22
wolfie, (or would you rather be referred to as "one's self"?) you're pushing the limit with that responsible parenting remark. That's really low of you and you should be ashamed. But anyway, the whole point is that paidtoreads shouldn't send out porn links unless the member says they want it or if its in TOS that the links will be sent out. The site caused a violation not me. I still would've been upset if my kid had been in the room when I clicked the link.
lucyfer
i agree shy-- my kids range from 8 to 15 and they are in the room ALOT when im on the puter--- i got that link a little while ago and about had a heartattack!!! i have no objections to porn sites-- in their place-- and their place is not at 7:30 at night when my kids are sitting in this very room watching tv

i opted in to adult letter wealth and i save those links for AFTER the kids go to bed

Wolfie my friend, I'm sure if you had children yourself, you'd understand the delight they get at doing things like using the computer...

The lady (Shy22) didn't say her child was reading the mail, merely clicking on the link, whats the harm in that? Or are you so miserable you just don't understand the joys of parenting?

Your remark about responsible parenting was well below the belt and totally un-called for, jeeze, you must be a right little [mod note: this however IS a personal attack.. edited] am.gif

wolfie, i SERIOUSLY doubt that she let her kid click links by themselves LMAO i wouldn't DARE let any kid under the age of 6 or 7 be at the computer alone.. if they can't read, they they don't know what they are doing.. you think her 4yo goes, Ok, here's the link mommy wants me to click ok.. let me click it, then delete this email and go onto the next one..

get real!! i don't have any kids myself, but i found your remarks VERY rude and on the border of personal attack... i'm still sitting here debating on whether or not to edit your post..

any votes? i'm doing 4 out of 5, so the first 4 yay or nays gets the vote...

It would seem to me , that the paid e-mail from this program was deceptive . There was no warning that the advertisement was for a pornographic site . I'm guessing because some of us would not click such a link .

Below is the entire e-mail and message , except I have edited the link .

Hi,

This is the email I just sent them:

I received an email from you earlier that was of porn content and am very disturbed. Luckily my children were sleeping or this email wouldn't be pleasant and I would have canceled my account. Please let us know that somehow this was a mistake and isn't going to happen again or label yourself as a "Adult Paid to Read Site" and let your members know so we could cancel our accounts and not be subject to adult content if we don't want to. You should send an apology to your members as many of us are angry.

Shy,

You are completely right, my kids are age 9 & 7 and while I don't allow them to click on links or have involvement, I don't see much of a crime in it. How anyone could say it is obviously is not a parent, or just "have issues" (being nice). If I was doing PTR's when my kids were younger, I could picture myself having them on my lap, clicking the links, while I read them. There's nothing wrong with that AT ALL! Children always want to help out.

My kids like to help me cook and clean, so I guess someone should call the child labor dept. and report that they do physical work under the age of 16, right? Wolfie? That's the equivalant. What shy is doing is just spending time with her daughter and making her daughter feel "Like a Big" person "helping mommy"

I say Nay to editing wolfie's post for the same reason as Brian

i can't really agree that it wasn't as harsh, but he didn't outright call anyone names.. it's debateble.. but yours was name-calling and i edited it for good reason. you can say whatever you want here, but attacking anyone isn't allowed.. hey, another mod might come in here and edit what wolfie said, who knows..

btw, this is the first i've seen any of your posts edited so i don't know what you are complaining about...

on a different note, i also agree that there should have been some sort of warning from the webmaster.. what if the person was over 18, but non-married and highly religious.. they could be really offended by nudity and sexual comments even though they are 'of age'

Ashamed and low of me to state my position on what reponsible parenting means to me. I think not, Madam.

I have so stated my definition of responsible parenting; that it is not congruent with your own perceived parameters, is not my fault.

My ethics, at any rate, are irrelevant asto the main point.

If your program does not allow adult sites, contact the webmaster of this program.

If your program states that you must be 13/18 years and over; contact your webmaster and ask him/her if it's okay for a four year old to read a paid advertisment in lieu of you.

I certainly would not pay for an advert to have it read by a four year old.

For parents who participate WITH their children, my sincere gratitude and yes, you are responsible parents. Introducing and MONITORING yoru children's exposure to the Internet; as well as sharing quality time with them and introducing them to the computer and its usage.

Enough said; as I mentioned, our perceptions of responsible parenting are not the same. Hence, I should be ashamed of myself; the hypothesis for this being based on the presmise that your parenting behavior is superior to mine.

Okay, fine, it is! I am thus ashamed aa.gif

Good day to you, Madam Shy. And so I will cut it off.

I understand that advertisers want adults to rad their mail, but I don't see a problem unless you're having your kids click all the links, which most don't and most of the time they're probably supervised anyway.

Maybe send your children to neopets.com, and see if any of you can drag yourself away to let the children play aa.gif

Wolfie,

Apparently you believe that the first amendment is still in effect. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the first amendment was abolished, I think around 1999. You are no longer allowed to write what you believe or think. You are not allowed to say anything that might not agree with other people.

If you do, you may get fined $10,000. Isn't that the going rate now for saying your own thoughts?

Wow

You guys~~ be nice to wolife~~~ hes just stating his opinion, I dont think he meant to offend.

And as far as the bad parenting discussion goes~

I grew up teething on Coors tall cans (I have pics)~my dad has been in prison for almost my entire life~my first paycheck went to the PG&E because our stepdad left us and got all the utilities turned off

~I'm completely normal~ I have a decent job, I go to college, gradualted from high school on time and never been in trouble with the law.

~My sister however~is completely insane~shes 18, only has enough high school credits to be a sophmore, has a police record about a mile long, drinks, smokes dope, you name it. Actually I had to bail her out of jail last week for drunk in public & vandalism.

Sorry, not trying to tell my life story~ Just making a point
Good or bad parenting doesnt exactly determine how your kid grows up, at least as far as I'm concerned. Your kid will decide how he or she wants to live, no matter what you do to help.

( welllll normal.............hmmmmmmmm gotta think on that!! ad.gif )

anyway, the point we all have is we dont want UNEXPECTED porn popping up, if one shows up right now, my kids are in the room , and i would NOT be happy, i dont think her little one is "reading" her mail, just "helping" mommy and spending what could be a learning experience with her, i mean come on, gimme a break here--this wasnt a parenting point, but a point that some of us dont want this crap on our screens without asking for it, and we soooo did not sign up for adult sites at this getpaid!!

**whew** that was a long one for me!**

Zachary
I would never send pornographic paid-to-read links,
or links to sites which open dozens of pop-ups, whether
children are viewing it or not. Most paid-to-read sites
say that children are allowed to use them if they have
their parent's consent, or the minimum age is
13-16. Any advertiser which asks to advertise pornographic,
racist or illegal web sites at any of the Points2Cash
Network sites will be rejected.
idyikiter
Lucyfer~~ I think that was the longest post Ive seen by you ever!

I understand that this didnt start off as a parenting issue.
I agree that porn links or popups shouldnt be in your everyday GPTread, those should be for the adult ones. You have to remember though, that this could not be the webmasters fault. The advertiser could have added that popup/changed the site after the fact.

BTW~
I wonder has anyone gotten a reply email from this webmaster?
